MEMBERS CLUB COMPETITION RULES

All CLUB events require current membership of a Golf Club and Golf Australia Handicap Hours and Conditions of Play: All members playing in the Club’s competitions are required to book their times within the hours specified on the time sheets, unless otherwise permitted by the Match Committee. All players are requested to be in attendance at the first tee, ready to hit off, at least 10 minutes before the due time and to hit off without delay. It is the players’ responsibility to be aware of THEIR hit off times. Late Arrival on Tee shall be dealt with in accordance with Rules of Golf - Rule 6.3. Cancellation before Day of Play: As soon as a player is aware they will be unable to play at a time booked in a competition, they should ensure their name is erased from the time sheet. Cancellation on Day of Play: ALL players must notify the starter of their cancellation at least ONE HOUR before the time they are due to hit off. Observance of this requirement will be monitored by the Match Committee. Junior Members: Junior playing members are eligible to place their names on the time sheet and, unless otherwise authorised by the Committee, shall be accompanied by at least two adult members. Play and Conduct on the Course: (a) The lowest marker in any group is deemed to be responsible for the conduct and etiquette of the group and to ensure that the group maintains its position in the competition field. Any group losing one clear hole on the group ahead should invite the group behind to play through irrespective of the number of players in that group. (b) Match Committee has adopted GA’s recommendation of four hours being a reasonable time for a group of 4 players to complete a stroke round under normal conditions. ALL players are requested to: * Play at all times without delay, walk briskly between shots and always

be ready to play when it is your turn

Page 11: COOTAMUNDRA COUNTRY CLUB · repair pitch marks and clear loose impediments from their line of putt. Etiquette is the term given to courtesies extended to and from other golfers. *

11

* Limit yourself to one practice swing before each shot when on the golf course. * Park bags/buggies/carts at a convenient point near the green - NOT IN FRONT of the green. * Leave the putting green immediately you have completed the hole. * DO NOT replay putts or practice putting. * MARK YOUR CARD ON THE NEXT TEE. * Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind to play through as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball cannot be easily found. Do not wait five minutes before doing so. They should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range. * Pick up immediately once you have failed to score in Stableford and Par competitions. * Keep up with the players in front - don’t worry about the group behind.

YOUR PLACE IN THE FIELD IS BEHIND THE GROUP IN

FRONT - NOT IN FRONT OF THE GROUP BEHIND. PLAYERS CAN BE PENALISED FOR SLOW PLAY UNDER

RULES 6-7 and 32-1b. Pace of Play Policy: Rule 6-7 states in part “the players shall play without undue delay and in accordance with any pace of play guidelines which may be laid down by the Committee.” The penalty for a breach of this Rule is TWO strokes in stroke play and loss of hole in match play. For a repeated offence, the penalty is disqualification. Pace of Play Guidelines: Par 3 holes: 10 to 12 minutes; Par 4 holes:

12 to 14 minutes for a short par 4, 13 to 15 minutes for a long or

difficult par 4; Par 5 holes: 15 to 16 minutes.

Time Allocated per Shot:

45 seconds per shot. 15 seconds extra may be allowed for:

The First player to play on a par 3 hole.

The First player to play their second/subsequent shot on a par 4 or

par 5 hole

The first player to play from on or near the putting green on any hole.

12

Timing starts when it is a player’s turn to play and there is no

interference.

No additional time should be allowed for measuring distances or

gauging wind.

On the putting green a player may be allowed a few extra seconds to

repair pitch marks and clear loose impediments from their line of putt.

Etiquette is the term given to courtesies extended to and from other

golfers.

* On every occasion use common sense.

* Treat other players as you would like them to treat you.

* Always introduce yourself when playing with others you don’t

know.

* Be quiet and don’t move about whilst others are playing. Do not

stand close to or directly behind either the ball or the hole.

* Do not play before the players in front of you are out of range or off

the green ahead.

* The flagstick must always be attended to or removed when a player

is putting on the green.

Priority on the Course: Unless otherwise determined by the

Committee, priority on the course is determined by a group’s pace of

play. Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group

playing a shorter round.

Score Cards: All events, unless otherwise nominated (Fourball,

Foursomes, Ambrose), SHALL BE CONDUCTED AS INDIVIDUAL

COMPETITIONS UNDER APPLICABLE RULES and a score card

returned BY EACH PLAYER. Players are responsible for their scores,

Page 13: COOTAMUNDRA COUNTRY CLUB · repair pitch marks and clear loose impediments from their line of putt. Etiquette is the term given to courtesies extended to and from other golfers. *

13

entering their correct handicap and signing their cards. All score

cards should show the player’s membership number. Incorrectly

marked score cards can lead to disqualification, refer Rules 38, 39.

When a player is disqualified or NCR, the score may still be used for

handicapping purposes at the discretion of the Match Committee.

Competition will be declared after the last competitor’s card has been

checked. In competitions over more than one day, players shall play

off the most current handicap unless otherwise specified.

Mobile Phones are a major distraction and MUST be switched off on

the course. Mobile phones may only be used in an emergency.

Players are earnestly requested to provide themselves with a Rule

Book and make every endeavour to become familiar with

requirements, infringements and penalties relating to play and

etiquette on the course. Players should also look at the notice board

before starting play for they are deemed to be aware of all notices,

local rules etc. there posted.

Fixtures: The nature of a competition set down for any day may be

altered by the Match Committee without notice.

Protests are to be in writing and must be submitted to a member of

the Match Committee immediately on completion of the round. The

Match Committee will consider such protests at their earliest

opportunity and their decision shall be final.

Countbacks:

* The score for the last 9 holes shall be used. If there is still a tie, then

the last 6 holes shall be used. If still tied, the last 3 holes shall be used. If

still tied, hole by hole scores from the 18th hole shall be used.

Page 14: COOTAMUNDRA COUNTRY CLUB · repair pitch marks and clear loose impediments from their line of putt. Etiquette is the term given to courtesies extended to and from other golfers. *

14

* For Nett score countbacks: Use 1/2 handicap for 9 holes, use 1/3

handicap for 6 holes, use 1/6 handicap for 3 holes. For 27, 36 or 72

hole events: Last 18 holes, if tied as above with 18 holes. Note: The

nett score for the last six holes shall be used in 9 hole events, then the

last three. If a tie persists, then hole by hole from the 9th.

Care of the Course:

* Always repair divot holes - carry and use a sand bucket. Failure to

do so may result in a 2 stroke penalty per round.

* Always repair all pitch marks on the putting green.

* Always rake bunkers smooth and as you leave the bunker put the

rake in the middle of the bunker, parallel to the fairway.

* Keep buggies and bags off tees and putting greens. Be careful

placing the flagstick on the green thus avoiding any damage.

* Do not stand close to the hole in handling the flagstick or removing

the ball from the hole. This can damage the grass near the hole and

make putting difficult for others.

Ties/Playoffs:

The countback system will be used in events other than

Championships.

Ties in Championships shall be played off as decided by the Match

Committee.

GOLF is a game based upon etiquette and adherence to the rules of golf. All golf at Cootamundra Golf Club is based upon these basic principles. If players vary outside the basic principles, they may be called upon to explain their actions and behaviour to the Golf Committee. As a guide the following is provided to assist players in how to have queries and decisions answered.

MATCH PLAY: Play to the rules of golf and local rules as applicable. If a question upon rules arises or a dispute during match play occurs, follow procedure as set down in Rule 2-5 on Page 48, Rules of Golf Effective January 2016. This rule reads as : In match play, if a doubt or dispute arises between the players, a player may make a claim. If no duly authorized representative of the Committee is available within a reasonable time, the players must continue the match without delay. The Committee may consider a claim ONLY if the player making the claim notifies his opponent (i) that he is making a claim, (ii) of the facts of the situation and (iii) that he wants a ruling. The claim must be made before any player in the match plays from the next teeing ground or, in the case of the last hole of the match, before all players in the match leave the putting green. A later claim may not be considered by the Committee, unless it is based on facts previously unknown to the player making the claim and he had been given wrong information (Rules 6-2a and 9) by an opponent. Once the result of the match has been officially announced, a later claim may not be considered by the Committee, unless it is satisfied that the opponent knew he was giving wrong information.

Page 17: COOTAMUNDRA COUNTRY CLUB · repair pitch marks and clear loose impediments from their line of putt. Etiquette is the term given to courtesies extended to and from other golfers. *

17

STROKE PLAY: Follow procedure as set down under Rule 3-3 on Pages 50 Rules of Golf Effective January2016. a. Procedure. In stroke play, if a competitor is doubtful of his rights or the correct procedure during the play of a hole, he may, without penalty, complete the hole with two balls. After the doubtful situation has arisen and before taking further action, the competitor must announce to his marker or fellow-competitor that he intends to play two balls and which ball he wishes to count if the Rules permit. The competitor must report the facts of the situation to the Committee before returning his score card. If he fails to do so, he is disqualified.

In all instances disputes to be referred to Match Committee for determination

as per Rules of Golf. Match Committee decisions will be final.
