PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Thank you to Holly North for her insightful presentation at last Friday’s assembly. Please see further information regarding the Antarctic Project under school news over page.
Big congratulations to Jake who finally received his Credit in Maths and a Distinction in Writing as a participant in the ICAS competition. Once again can I congratulate all participants for their efforts and achievements in the six components of ICAS.
On Wednesday 23rd November at 1.40pm we will be holding the prestigious, glamourous and fabulous ‘Lizzies’ to recognise the talent, hard work and creativity of our students at our recent school concert. Please see further information and flyer attached.
After last year’s Year 6 ceremony it became obvious that due to time constraints the music concert needs to be a separate event from the Year 6 farewell assembly. Therefore all the students who have been participating in music tuition with Dani and Guy will now be performing at a special assembly taking place on Thursday 24th November from 9.30am till 11.10am. This will also be Guy’s last appearance before he embarks on a year’s overseas travel with his family. Thank you Guy and Dani for your valued musical instruction. All family most welcome to attend this musical assembly.
Many thanks
Geoff Coghlan
PS. Next assembly 25th November – new Principal’s award/trophy will be presented. Who will it be?????

SCHOOL NEWS
National Park Ranger Holly North came to Coorabell School last week to talk about a women in science project in Antarctica. The "Homeward Bound Project" is a leadership and strategic initiative that aims to amplify the influence and impact of women in building a more sustainable future. In December 2016 a group 76 women scientists from around the world will voyage to Antarctica on a ship to learn more about leadership and climate issues.
"One of the spinoff projects we are planning is to plant and maintain a 'Homeward Bound forest' of 20,000 trees in the Byron Shire, to offset the carbon emissions from our voyage and to provide habitat connectivity for the endangered coastal koala population," said Ms North.
The goal is to build a network of 1000 women over 10 years who are willing to step up to leadership roles to influence policy and decision making globally. A key objective of the project is to benefit the communities in which we live, work and serve. Ms North is passionate about creating and maintaining habitat for threatened plants and animals. "By connecting existing patches of koala habitat with these plantings, we hope to connect this global project with local communities as well," said Ms North.

Introducing The Lizzies, a truly glittering academy awards-style event aimed at celebrating our performance, ‘Taking Off With Coorabell, 2016’ and recognising talent, hard work and the
creativity of our students in the field of performing arts.
This year, The Lizzies will be celebrated in the Library on Wednesday, 23rd November at 1.40pm.
Who will stroll down the red carpet and take out this year’s most coveted prizes, Best Actor and Best Performer awards, among
many others?
All your favourite stars will be there and plenty of paparazzi. So a nod to the prestige of the occasion might be fun. Perhaps a top hat, a cravat, some lovely long gloves or a feather boa, pearls of course, tiaras… you get the picture. Participate and enjoy. All
families welcome to attend.
See you there!
