Our aims for the Sixth Class Bidwill Young

People were: To promote self-esteem and self-worth

To encourage them to dream about their future

To build positive attitudes towards life

Most importantly we aimed to have

Focus groups. Careers Expo Eight week program at Bidwill that

covered topics like: Goal setting Overcoming barriers Communication skills How to get help when you need

it. Developing healthy positive

relationships Sex and sexuality Dealing with anger

Creation of an inspirational CD encouraging kids to live their dreams.

Surf Awareness Day

We designed an advocacy campaign to incorporate the

Cool Girls/Cool Dudes Program into the

Department of Education and Training NSW Board of Studies PDHPE Stage 3 Curriculum for

disadvantaged schools.

The Bidwill Project gave TAFE Youth Work Learners:

Hands on practical experience in running a successful group work program.

Contact with the Community Services Industry

Insight into the issues young people from a disadvantaged area face.

An opportunity to develop many skills including their written, computing, organisational and communication skills

Problem Solving/Goal Setting Puzzle from “Barriers to My Dreams” Session

The Bidwill Project: Gave valid and current industry

experience to the Youth Work Trainers involved in facilitating the

Project.

Helped to build strong links between Industry and Nirimba TAFE

Helped to raise the profile of Nirimba TAFE to the next generation of potential TAFE customers (i.e. the Young People at Bidwill Primary School).
