FOREWORD

Years before the Dr Pepper Company and The Seven-Up Company merged, recipes emerged from theirtesting kitchens. These recipes some dating back tothe 1950s have withstood the test of time.

Dr Pepper and 7 UP, although two very distinct softdrinks, lend their own special flavor enhancement tothese dishes. Cooks have discovered that the substi-tution of Dr Pepper or 7 UP achieves more than sim-ply adding liquid; it also adds unexpected flavor andtexture.

Unless a recipe specifies that the product be set asideto lose its carbonation, we recommend using DrPepper and 7 UP freshly opened. In many cases, thecarbonation adds its own special characteristic to the taste and texture ofthe completed dish.

Diet soft drinks, including Diet Dr Pepper and Diet 7UP are not suitable in cooking and baking. The sweet-ness of aspartame-sweetened drinks is diminished byheat. Regular Dr Pepper and 7 UP, however, may eas-ily be used in any cooked recipe without loss of flavor-ing or sweetness.

The eighth printing of Cooking with Dr Pepper and 7UP retains the majority of the recipes from the sev-enth edition. For this edition, we found recipes thathad been tucked away for many years. We have alsoadded some Dr Pepper "tailgating" recipes prepared by Randy Bray, ExecutiveChef for Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc.

W e hope you enjoy the recipes in this eighth edition.Consumer suggestions are always welcome. You may address your comments to: Consumer Relations
