Edithburgh gets…..Stoked on Life!
The Lighthouse Youth Project is coming to the Burgh!
This group is a registered charity and volunteer supported not-for- profit organization…sharing a love of riding!
They work with young people regardless of circumstance, supporting them into pathways through a diverse range of pro-
grams.
They also offer community events that include BMX coaching and skill mentoring.
Their passion is skill sharing with energy and enthusiasm…and encouragement to get stoked on life!
Day at the Burgh is excited that our community will host LighthouseYP for a BMX day workshop on the Saturday, November 6,
this year, as part of our Kids Zone activities.
Young people from 5-16 years are welcome…bring your bike, and your parents!
Don’t have a bike?
The BMX group are bringing portable ramps and tracks…and ten bikes and helmets for you to borrow.
Activities are organized, skills are demonstrated…maybe some tricks will be shown!
The LighthouseYP group is fully insured, and brings trained supervisors.
The set-up will be on a large tract of land, near the caravan park, with ample parking and room to set up your picnic.

The Environmental Works Group
Have you noticed the new grass along the
foreshore?
Thanks to the able assistance of Troy
Johnson the old weeds have been re-
moved and new grass is now establishing
itself due to the rains and sunshine.
The group has been busy in Edith Street
and the old shrubbery has been removed
by Council for us. There have been work-
ing bees laying new driplines over the
past few days and by months end we should
have plantings of Annuals and Perennials well under way. We hope to have a good showing
around the Day at The Burg.

CANCELLED After much deliberation, the Edithburgh Day at the Burgh committee has decided to cancel the planned event for 7
th November 2021.
We don’t want to put the community at any risk in these uncertain times with COVID and the management plan for such an event with so many people, with COVID restrictions was formidable. We hope to hold the event at a later date but can’t say at this time when that will be. Apologies for any inconvenience but we feel this is the best outcome at this time. There are some individual events still going ahead. Eg The Boogie Men and BMX Lighthouse Youth Project both happening on Saturday 6th November. Stayed tuned for further updates.
Edithburgh Flora Park Annual Report
Activities 2020 -2021
Volunteers. The volunteers this year, Terry Braund, Neil
Haddow, Graham Dallow, Sam Bauer and a recent addition
Clare Treis.
Street Plantings: Street plantings were undertaken in Honi-
ton Road and Anstey terrace North, Native Frangipani were
replaced in Honiton Road with Hakea Laurina.
Street Planter Maintenance: Planter maintenance was added
to the Park Volunteers responsibilities, watering, plant fertilization and replacement where
necessary.
Equipment: The addition of Trailer and Fire tank and pump
made it easier to maintain street plantings and a minor facility in
the event of fire. The volunteers made improvements to the ex-
isting accommodation to house the equipment.
Invasive Species: This is a continuous process and includes re-
moval or spot spraying where necessary, Species include Olives,
Boxthorn, Bridal veil, Bridal Creeper, Spiny Starwort and invasive
wattles. We feel that we are getting on top of these problems.
Falls: Falls are becoming more frequent with some of the larg-
er trees and the original plantings start to aged and push themselves above the limestone
base, there have been four large ones this year.
Species Replacement: Replacement of degraded species continues by selectively grow-
ing from seed or cuttings by the volunteers. There is considerable regrowth in the trees but
not so much in the understory plants
Plantings: There have been quite a few donations of local native plants that have been
introduced.
Cut timber: Cut wood has been disposed of at cost to offset some outgoings or delivered
free to aged pensioners or volunteers.
Rubbish Disposal: Disposal has been achieved by burning dur-
ing the winter or courtesy of the local council.
Solar Installation: A house hold solar panel was given to the
park and associated equipment purchased and assembled by the
volunteers to provided solar charging for the Vehicle batteries.
Standing Water: Permanent water for summer has been provid-
ed in 4 areas by the use of wheely bins as tanks and low pressure
float valves to ponds.
Futures:

of the park. This is still an
objective.

the planning stage
3. The progress association should clearly look how the
park would be maintained in the absence of volun-
teers
4. More advertising of the parks value to the area should pursued

Spotted Pardalote
We walked along the track from Port Moorowie towards Mossie Flat along the Walk the Yorke Track. In the last tree before the field, I stopped to watch a Grey Fantail catching insects. Then, I no-ticed a beautifully coloured small bird in a gum tree beyond the fantail. It was a male Spotted Par-dalote that was moving rapidly through the tree searching for lerps.
The Spotted Pardalotes are common on the Heel, but are very hard to spot as they tend to be high up in the trees. Sometimes a small flock may be there calling to each other and I have unable to spot even one. Each bird can make a single call and the peeps can be all round me – very frustrating.
The three images show the yellow and red rump and tail. The spots on head are also yellow while those on the wings are a bright white.

Bloody winter, I’m starting not to like this one, with freezing, blistering winds, howling rain, lock down with COVID, it’s been a hard one, But on the brighter side, I was able to resurrect some old recipes, that were written down years ago, stashed away, and forgotten about, and I’d like share them with you. “OLDE FASHIONED RUBY CHICKEN CURRY” INGREDIENTS:- 1 x brown onion, 2 x carrots, 1 stalk of celery, 1kg chicken thigh fillets, skinned removed and boned, 300ml of unflavoured yoghurt, natural or Greek, 2 tsp of coriander seeds, 1 tsp of cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1/2 tsp chilli powder, 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp each of salt and pepper, ghee or olive oil, 1/2 lem-on squeezed, 1 x red chilli, fresh coriander for garnish and hot rice to serve with. METHOD:- Grab a brewski, cooking should be fun, and it is very thirsty work. Heat a small fry pan and pop all the seeds in, this is to toast them, as they cook, the smell in the kitchen is so aromatic, it’s bedazzling, but please don’t burn them. Remove from the heat, and pop them in a coffee grinder or mortar and pestle, and grind away, ( I told you this is thirsty work), add the powdered spices, salt and pepper, mix this with finely chopped chilli (seeds removed), 2 tbsp oil, and lemon juice, and marinade the chicken thighs and yoghurt. Leave in fridge 2hrs, so grab another brewski and clean up. Chop carrots, celery and onion, bung in a pot, with a little oil, and cook til softened, add the chicken thighs, and yoghurt mix, bring to the boil, reduce heat and cook for 15 to 20 mins. Pop rice in the nuke (microwave), to heat up. Now I love pappadums, grab some spray oil, spray 4 of them on both sides, bung in the nuke, and cook 1min on high, my kiddlewinks love watching these puff up. Do as many as you need, taste the curry, re season if need be, scoop rice into a bowl, top with curry, and sprinkle with chopped coriander. A real cold brewski is needed, well done.

MUSEUM CHAIR REPORT July 2021
Welcome and thankyou for your attendance tonight. We hope the room is warm enough. Apologies for the month’s delay but COVID won’t go away in a hurry. Unlike 2020 we have been open all year and almost every day, except for the recent lock-down, alt-hough under COVID restrictions, which no doubt will be extended into the future. Thank you to all office bearers, John Giles as vice chair, Jan Geytenbeek as secretary and fundraising coordinator, and Pat Russell as treasurer. This year we bade farewell to Kath Drury in August 2020 and Norma McGuire in May 2021, both had given years of valuable service to the Museum. Andrew Searle has taken leave and we hope to see him return in the not too distant future. As always a big thankyou to all committee members and volunteers, whether working on the desk, vol-unteering in restorations, working bees, acquisition bookwork, markets and barbecues. We have had lots of new volunteers this year. Thank you volunteers for coming on board and we hope that your time has been rewarding. To the Stantons and Russell’s – unbelievable input! You spend so much time here, I’m sure you have beds in the Hospital Display or the Braund’s troughs. Steve Slack your help and support has been no less than outstanding! Jin Douglas for initiating the Local Produce ‘Mini Market’ at the Garage and a special thanks must go to Carmen and Peter for their commitment to helping raise funds towards the Museum. We have raised approximately $1000 and truly appreciate the effort of all who donate and support this ini-tiative.

50th Anniversary of the Museum 2022 – looking for ideas and input for celebrations 150th Anniversary of the Jetty April 2023, Clydesdale monument and Jetty truck restoration any other
ideas or suggestions???? Although under difficult circumstances we have had another memorable year. Our Museum is in a
strong position (supporter-based and financially) and I hope that with your continued support and dedication that we can continue to grow and project our successes into the coming year.
P.S. If anyone has any old timbers from jetty, grain stacks or salt works that may be useful for a rebuild of the jetty truck in the cutting please contact the museum. We hope to have the jetty truck restored for the jetty 150th. Keryn Dawes

Social tennis
SOCIAL TENNIS Every Tuesday at Coobowie and on a Thursday at Edithburgh from 9.00am. Players must have knowledge of the game. Become a social member of the Coobowie and Edithburgh Tennis Clubs or pay $5 a day. We play mainly doubles, keep fit, share a joke and go for a coffee afterwards. There are three courts and we usually play for 1.5hours. No need to ring, just come out and bring your racquet and a
sense of humour.

The first Coo-ee came out on 13th September, 1983. It was put together by
David and Wendy Laing at the Edithburgh Primary School. It was printed
weekly and had a distribution of 200. It is still a community newsletter that
promotes the town, local businesses, clubs, organisations, events and
individuals. It aims to be informative and entertaining rather than political or
biased. It encourages submissions of local photographs, stories and events,
And it relies heavily on the generosity of regular contributors,
It is now a monthly newsletter with a distribution of between 150-250
depending on the time of year, It is also available on line.
