On Sunday 23rd of February Corey and Jo de Roos with their wonderful staff at The Location put on a farewell lunch for the Blaze Aid Camp and all who wished to say thank you. They will be sorely missed, not just for the hard work erecting fences over the last three months, but for their friendships forged with farmers and everyone they met.
Music was provided by the Cruizn Blues band...John Weekley, Rob Kidd and Clare Murillo.
Karen Warren made a heartfelt speech, followed by Terry Smith, expressing the appreciation felt by the farmers, including a big thank you to Soxy, Peter Stockings.
Come back and visit us Blazeaiders and thank you all!
The weather was perfect, people lingered long after lunch, chatting under the colourful umbrellas.

Many people and groups, from Edithburgh and across SYP have supported the Blaze Aid volunteers.
Appetites are big at the end of each hard working day, so a home cooked meal has been much appreciated and one small way to thank these wonderful people who gathered from across Australia and beyond to clear then build new fencing.
This is just one story. Sue Seiber and Bronte Mackereth have cooked several meals for them during the past three months, ending last week with a cook up of local fish...garfish, whiting and squid, chips, salads, freshly baked bread rolls, followed by individual trifles for dessert. Absolutely delicious. Thank you ladies.
It was an obvious choice to award an Eddie the Emu to Karen and Graham Warren for their efforts in leading and working with the BlazeAid team.
The Eddie the Emu Award was created to recognise and celebrate those in our community who ‘stick their neck out’ to start a new initiative or ‘stick their neck out’ to do something for others.
Congratulations and thank you
The recent Edithburgh Invitational Women’s Bowls Day was held in honour of H Tatchell. Eighty to ninety women from all over the Yorke Peninsula and Two Wells participated on the day. Many wore pink which was H’s favourite colour. Two Wells won the day, followed by Minlaton. Prizes were presented by Carly Tatchell, H’s daughter.

The Edithburgh Bowling and RSL Clubs celebrate Australia Day
The two clubs both share the same club rooms on Yorketown Road and each year celebrate Australia day with a “Bowls and Bayonets” day. BlazeAid volunteers also took part in the day. They are resplendent in the orange jackets in the photos. It was a great day, the weather was kind and the RSL took the honours.
FREE INFORMATION SESSION – BECOMING “SCAM SMART”
Did you know that in the month of January 2020 more than 12,000 Australians reported being the target of a fraud commonly known as a scam? The real number of people targeted is much higher as most people will not bother to officially report the phone calls or emails they receive – although at some time most of us probably complain about them in conversation with friends or relatives.
When using your landline or mobile phone, internet, email or social media you will probably at some time be exposed to an attempt to scam you. The more knowledge you have of potential scams the more you will be prepared to identify and avoid these attempts.
SYP Community Hub will be holding a free information session at the Edithburgh Bowling Club on Wednesday 18

Edithburgh Progress/What’s Happening!
Caravan Park.
• Mr Graham Bonner of West Lakes visited the Yorke Peninsula Stand at the Caravan and Camping Show earlier in the month in Adelaide.
• Graham was the 2019 Competition Winner of accommodation at our fantastic Park. He dropped in to say what a great time he had when he visited Edithburgh.
Progress Association.
• As a result of the November fires, Leith Smith, Captain Edithburgh CFS, attended the February Progress meeting to discuss a Town Evacuation Plan. Progress and CFS will now work together to develop that plan which would see safe zones, responsibilities and actions identified.
• Leith also reported that he was very pleased that 12 new members had joined the Edithburgh CFS since the fire incident. More volunteers are still needed so please contact the Edithburgh CFS on their Facebook page for more information.
• The town fire warning siren is operational and will be tested on a regular basis – the 1st
and 3rd
Monday of each month at 7pm.
• Southern Eagles has kindly donated $3,000 towards the upgrade of the Edithburgh Tennis Courts. Thank you!
• Our friends at AGL have also granted $2,000 for meshing at the Tennis Courts.
• The Flora Park’s new information board and signage is now complete and looks great. Take a walk to the Park and have a look at the fantastic amount of information on flora and fauna found at the Park.
• The Bakehouse needs your support – if you are interested in volunteering a couple of hours or more or placing goods in the Bakehouse for sale, please contact Kath Haddow.
• Planning is underway for renovations to the Museum site to make it easier to access all the exhibits and repair work to the front salt damp and roofing will be completed in the coming months.
• Planning for Day at the Burgh 2020 is underway, with a proposed change in format to the weekend. More details will be revealed in the coming months.
• At the recent Yorke Peninsula Council Australia Day Awards, the Day at the Burgh event received a Nomination Certificate. Well done to all involved.
• On the Saturday of the 2020 Day at the Burgh event, there will once again be historical walks and talks, with the Street Drama this year focussing on the Salt Industry.
• Progress is making available $300 to purchase new equipment such as kickboards and noodles for VACSWIM 2020-2021.
• Progress donated $100 to the Uniting Church in memory of the late Effie Bartram.
• Don’t forget the Bi-Annual Yorke Peninsula Art Exhibition Sculpture Exhibition which will be held at the Edithburgh Institute over the Easter Weekend - Friday 10 April to Monday 13 April. This is a great opportunity for Edithburgh and if you’d like to volunteer to help organise or be available to volunteer your time during the exhibition, please contact Jen Robyn who is the Progress Lead Person for the Exhibition.
• A Training Day for Volunteers at the YP Art Exhibition is being held on 31 March 2020 at 6.30pm at the Minlaton Council Offices. This training will also include cash handling.
• The Edithburgh Markets will be held on Sunday March 8 at the Edithburgh Institute from 8am to 1pm. A huge thanks to Pat Bartram for everything she’s done for the markets over the years. She’s taking a short break but don’t worry, she’s got all in place to continue with the markets until her return.
• Congratulations to Jordan Tilbrook who has become a State Cricket Representative and has received a Progress Sponsorship of $1000. Well done Jordan and good luck. Here’s a great shot of Jordan in action in Adelaide over the past week.

This is a much loved dish from the Scottish borders, over there the Scots call Swedes “Neeps”, short for turnips. This is an amazing side dish for a roast dinner, lamb chops, or a hearty stew, give it a crack, I think you’ll like it.
INGREDIENTS:-
500g Swedes, 500g potato’s, 250g Savoy cabbage, 100g butter, (margarine doesn’t work in this dish), 100g of your favourite shredded cheese, 1 whole nutmeg, a grater.
METHOD:-
Peel the spuds and neeps, and place in salted water, bring to the boil and cook until tender, turn into a colander, slice the Savoy cabbage fairly finely, using those beautiful green outer leaves as well, pop into a pot, and cook till just wilted with ½ the butter, mash the Neeps and spuds fairly roughly, add to cooked cabbage with the other ½ of butter, and mash together well, (hard work this, maybe grab a brewski or two), tip all the veg into a greased oven dish, grate some fresh nutmeg on top, and sprinkle the cheese on top. Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees, and bung the Rumbledethumps in for 12 minutes, and cook till golden. As I said before, this is delicious as a side dish, with your favourite dinner, hope you like it.

Eastern Barn Owl
I was walking across the golf course on a wet and windy afternoon. My attention was drawn to a large flock of feral (rock) pigeons. I wondered if a raptor had disturbed them. Suddenly, just in front of me, an Eastern Barn Owl took off from the ground. I had missed an opportunity to photograph it. However, magpies came to my rescue. Several magpies must have been watching, as they immediately started to harass the Barn Owl that briefly landed in a nearby tree before taking avoiding action to escape from the magpies. The Bar Owl avoided being pecked by the magpies and flew off into trees near Edithburgh North.
We should be encouraging the Barn Owls, as rodents form a significant part of their diet.
A Barn Owl weighs about 300-500grams with a wingspan over a metre. A magpie is somewhat lighter at 200-350grams with a wingspan up to about 85cms.

EDITHBURGH WOMEN’S FRIENDSHIP GROUP 2020
Meets in the Edithburgh Institute Supper Room commencing at 2.00pm on the first Wednesday of each month from February to December. New members are welcome. A $2.00 donation goes to room hire and expenses. Note: the doors will open at 1.30pm to allow 10 minutes or so for the committee to set up before members arrive at 2.00pm.

Social tennis in Edithburgh every Tuesday and Thursday at 9am.
Players must have a knowledge of the game. Become a social member of the Edithburgh tennis club - that way no court costs.
We enjoy ourselves, keep fit, play mainly doubles, share a joke, plenty of banter and go for a coffee after-wards and grateful we can still be active. The players are all ages and play to their own pace and love it. We have 3 courts and usually go for 1 hour, no need to ring just rock up when you can and don’t forget to bring your own special sense of humour - you will need it.
