2014 Dear friends, Thank you for giving our Rochester city students a boost through your support of Rochester Education Foundation. Given all the challenges facing our city students, it is critical that we continue increasing their resources for success. Thank you so much for helping us work to do just that! It was an exciting year. We continued to expand our Spring for Music Opportunities program, teaming up with Rochester city music teachers who staged concerts to raise funds so city students could receive free music lessons over the summer. As a result, students from throughout the city school system received music scholarships to study at Hochstein School of Music and Dance and the Eastman School of Music. We continued collecting musical instruments for city students all over town! In 2014, this included 8 days at the Jazz Festival, a stint at WXXI, and a special drive in Fairport. Thanks to all for your generosity! On top of that, donors enabled us to create a guitar club at School 35, and to invigorate School 3 with beautiful Orff xylophones for general music classes. Dear Friends (continued from front cover)

We continued benefitting from community support, including 300 books donated from Monroe Community College. We also were grateful to local employers for allowing us to support 18 student work internships at businesses around the community. Additionally we worked throughout 2014 to create the very exciting FAFSA Fest 2015 events which took place in early 2015, through our leadership of the Rochester College Access Network. During three special FAFSA Fest events, and one pre-existing event we helped publicize, about 200 city students were able to get free, trained assistance in filling out and submitting their financial aid forms. We also spent much of 2014 writing the content for a new, Rochester-focused website to help students and their families in the college search: rochesterCAN.org.Finally, we were honored to be the recipient of contributions in memory of Rep. Louise Slaughter’s husband, Bob. All donations were directed to benefit the Dr. Walter Cooper Academy, School 10 Fund at REF. Thank you Rep. Slaughter. The possibilities to make a difference in the lives of our city students are limitless. Thank you for your generous support.
