Sławomir Sawicki, POL-CON CONSULTING

“The event was very well organized. Thetechnical subjects were selected as in otherinternational conferences: some norms andregulations, some products and systems andfinally some interesting execution presentations.Drawings, photos and technical specificationsare universal. Finally, I talked to some ofspeakers and we had similar problems, similarsolutions. It was a pleasure to meet and stir

experience and ideas with the Meridian European market.”

Finn Buus Steffensen, NIRAS FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING

“Such events are useful in the sense that youcan address the people who actually build thebuildings and propose new ideas and newapproaches, introduce concepts likeperformance based issues. As I understand it,you don’t have performance based codes inRomania, and I felt great interest in the conceptof performance based, you perhaps dosomething else. If we look at Denmark say 15-20 years ago we had the same set of codes that you have. If you look at the number ofcountries that have introduced performance based codes, it’s like 8 countries in theworld: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, HongKong. So it’s very new. Denmark is a small country and we do a lot of jobs abroad. Wewant to be first in new technology. There’s no doubt in my mind that performance basedcodes is the future, we’ve just started it early. It’s a universal language. Because a fire inRomania will develop and the smoke will spread the same way as in Denmark. Thewhole idea is that we have one language to describe and analyse fire and fire safety. That’s what performance based code can do. You don’t need national building codes. You just need a building code to say that your bulding will have to be safe in case of fire.It is your responsibility to document. What does it take to make this transition? Thekeyword here is education. And here is where the conference comes in. I come and tellthat there’s a different way to do it and of course people are curious. They experience

Page 5: CONTRACTOR BUCHAREST 2014 - POST EVENT REPORT

the same agony that we did twenty years ago because we had these requirements thatwe didn’t understand. There’s another way.”

Finbar Murphy, ARUP

“To be more visibile to the market. We do alot of work and we have lots of friends in thelittle community in which we work, butoutside that community we don’t know muchabout, unless we tell people. So this is thefirst thing. You need to be able to be put in asituation where people are present atevents and you get the opportunity to tellabout the work we do.To some extentthere’s also an element of teaching as well. I

have a simple presentation describing the work we’ve done and some key aspectsabout which we have learnt from, and the main thing is to, without going into too muchdetail, share all this learning experience with everybody else and get some feedback.“

Nicoleta Turiac, ABB

“In Romania, we are unfortunately quitelittle known in this area but we have manyreference projects abroad, as I said in mypresentation, there is a continuingdevelopment of residential projects. Wewant to make ourselves known in Romaniaas well, because we have a very good localteam, we have expanded the business byincreasing the number of employees in thissegment and we want to make ourselvesknown in a field in which the group is actually very present, less so in Romania, unfortunately. We want to be close to the students as well, because in Romania wecollaborate well with other universities, polytechnics in particular, we want to supportarchitecture because we believe that we have many things to say. I tried to be veryconcise in my presentation, I did not go into technical details the range of which

Page 6: CONTRACTOR BUCHAREST 2014 - POST EVENT REPORT

is so great. Instead, I presented the main elements, followed by later discussions at thestand with my colleagues who are specialists.”

Claus Albel, DAIKIN ROMANIA

“I think the presentation was a success, it wasquite interesting for the audience, everyone wasfollowing it really interested. I think it is a quitegood event, especially for the persons in thisbusiness, to the point and directly targeting thisgroup as such. Definitely, I will participate in thenext editions as well. There are a lot ofproducers, a lot of companies offering productswhich might be also interesting for private

persons, also private inverstors maybe. For us, air-conditioning is definitely a productwhich is well-known for inverstors, but we are also interested to bring our brand closerto the end-customer.“

Florin Mitache, VAILLANT

“It is a very good event which we are attendingfor the second time. The feedback is good sofar, there are many people interested in ourproducts. Vaillant is number one in terms ofproduct quality, that is why the brand is sofamous. We came up with new products thisyear, in fact, at the end of last year welaunched a new range of products that meetsthe market demands and we hope it will havegreat success. We would like to meet againnext year in the same formula.”
