2014 Robotics Camp June 2 – June 6

9am – 12pm

9a

Sign up early! The camp is limited to 20 students.

Students will use the Tetrix Robotics Platform with LabView software and will design a robot to complete tasks on the 2014 FTC Block Party Competition Field. The Tetrix system uses aircraft grade aluminum for base construction and the field control system is from Logitech. Students will first build a base robot from guided instructions and add attachments of their own design in order to complete certain tasks. An arm needs to be designed that can lift itself and 50 grams. They must also design a swivel arm capable of turning a hand crank to raise a flag. Their robots will be remotely controlled but they will have to frame the program that operates the Logitech controllers. The camp provides students with hands on training with engineering design, critical thinking, and programming. Students with advanced skills will be encouraged to use an array of sensors with their robot to guide the robot around the field.

The Robotics Camp is for grades 9 – 12. Cost is $150.

Deadline for registration is May 19.

Instructor Bio: Jeff Ikner is the instructor for the EDC Robotics Camp. He has conducted Robotics Camp and coached competitive Robotics Teams at many levels. His teams have competed and placed favorably at region, super region, and state levels. Additionally, Mr. Ikner was selected to teach robotics at Georgia Tech. The robotics program has been so effective that in 3 years, the enrollment has grown from 7 to 55 students.

What is Georgia Work Ready? Georgia Work Ready was created to ensure that Georgia’s workers have the best skills, easy access to training and world-class job opportunities.

The backbone of the initiative is the Work Ready Certificate, which assesses the real world skills of Georgia’s workers. The Work Ready Certificate is awarded after passing assessments in three core areas: Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information and Locating Information. Georgians can use their Work Ready Certificate to prove their work readiness to potential employers.

Earning a Work Ready Certificate can by your ticket to the job you’ve always wanted. The Certificate verifies your work readiness skill level to potential employers and demonstrates your commitment to success.

If you want to be Georgia Work Ready, call (912)538-3258 or (478)289-2326.
