On Tuesday, March 27, several teachers saw the
live broadcast of Monumental. This is a depiction
of the Christian history of America, told by Kirk
Cameron. It started with how the Pilgrims sold
everything to gain religious freedom for their
families. The first time they tried to leave, their
ship’s captain sold them out and they were
placed in prison. This did not make them give up.
They tried a second time and the women and
children were captured. The men spent a year
without their families. Once they tried to travel in
the fall, which no one did at the time. For two
weeks they were tossed about. They finally went
below deck and rode the storm out. As an
interesting side note, all of the other ships at sea at
this time sank. You see the providence of God.
They ended up in Holland, the one place they
could have their religious freedom. The time was
still hard. The children had to work just so the
families could eat. They went back to England. At
this time they took the Mayflower which was not
built to withstand such a journey. On the way
over, the main beam broke and the captain told
them it was over. But once again in God’s
providence, they had brought along a large
screw and
were able
to hold up
the beam
and finish
their trip.
They
arrived at
the New
World sick,
hungry,
and not
sure what
to expect.
The first
winter was
very
brutal.
Almost half
of the Pilgrims died. Most of the mothers died
because they would lie over their children at night
to keep them warm, protecting the children but
leaving themselves exposed.

As I watched this presentation, I thought about a
ministry of your church—the Christian school. I
thought of those mothers giving so much for the
children and how your church has sacrificed so
much to have this school. What a major part you
have had in so many lives. I have seen children
come to know Christ. I have seen them grow in
their love for the Lord. I have seen unsaved
families hear the gospel at school programs and
from their children sharing Bible stories they hear
at school. As a matter of fact, I had a
grandparent, who does not really attend church,
come to me and tell me how their grandchild
was coming home and teaching them things
about the Bible they never knew. This is all
because your church has been willing to open its
doors and put up with the wear and tear on the
building to cover these children from the
elements of this world. They have been able to
learn not just math, English, and reading, but also
a Christian world view that they will take with
them for the rest of their lives. They have learned
that there is a God and that he loves them very
much. They have learned that they are created
in His image. They were created with a purpose.
So many in our world have no hope. They have
been told they have no creator, which gives
them nothing. This church has helped to build
such a strong foundation. We never know what
great things they will do for God.
In the presentation we learned that not all of our
founding fathers were deists. They never
intended to keep God out of education. In 1782,
the U.S. Congress printed a Bible to be given to
the people. On the inside of that Bible it said it
was to be given to the school to be used by the
children. Many of the signers of the Declaration
of Independence were either ministers or had
seminary degrees. If you go to Plymouth, MA,
drive to the top of the hill. You will find an almost
forgotten monument to the Pilgrims. It was
placed there over 160 years ago. It tells what
made them successful. On it are many
references to God’s Word and his laws, and
sharing them with our children and
grandchildren.
If you go to Harvard today and look at one
particular monument, you will see the words,
Christo – Et Ecclesiae – Veritas, translated, Christ –
The Church – Truth. That was its original motto.
Today it is just Veritas (Truth). Somewhere they
have missed their mission. They have forgotten
why they were started—that one key principle—
without Christ there is no truth. We watch a world
tossed about looking for truth and many never
finding it—Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Your church has allowed many to hear the truth
and we praise God for that.
Kirk said so many people have told him it is the
end time, and that we should just let things go
and let the end come. He said something very
powerful. God never expected us to just give up.
He wants us to work till he comes. Down through
the centuries Christians have thought it was the
end and time for Christ to come. What did Christ
tell his disciples? “Don’t just stand there. Do
something for me” (Domer Translation). So thank
you for your ministry. Nothing will return void.

NBCS Update April already!! We have finished the Stanford Achievement test
and the Speech Meet is behind us. We look forward to
celebrating our Savior’s resurrection over Easter Break. Our sixth
graders will be travelling to Washington, D.C. over the break. They
were able to raise funds to pay for the cost of their whole trip. We
are praying for a safe and educational time for them, as well as
the parents who are attending with them. Mr. Domokos is a
fantastic tour guide!
We have begun the Walkathon campaign. The walk is scheduled
for May 11, and we hope to raise at least $15,000. Students are
very motivated by the unique prizes offered by their teachers.
With Field Day being May 4, they should be in good shape and
ready to do some distance walking for the Walkathon.
Missionary Jen Srail taught us about her field in Cambodia. We
were able to raise funds to send her a gift of $170. The Lord has
provided us with a variety of missionary learning experiences this
year. The mission field just happens to be our Chapel theme for
the year.
Don’t miss NBCS Sunday on April 22. We are looking forward to
better acquainting you with this NBC ministry.
We are actively enrolling now and are praying for at least 112
students for the next school year. NBCS has a $150 tuition credit
available for new families, as well as those families recommending
them. Take some time and share some information about NBCS
with a neighbor or a friend.
Our condolences to Jim Steele and family in the loss of his
mother. Adeline Steele, 89, passed away on Friday, March 23.
We pray for God’s comfort for you during this time of
bereavement.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Mark and Kathleen
Phillips and family in the sudden passing of their son, Josh
Phillips. Josh went to be with his Savior on Friday, February 24.
We pray that the God of all comfort makes His grace known to
them in this hour of loss.
