O Agrupamento de Escolas General Serpa Pinto is a group of schools consisting of nursery schools,Basic (lower)-primary schools and a basic school from 5th to 9th grade. Our schools are located in apoor rural area, in the north of Portugal. We can say that the unemployment rate is high and there arevery few work support services. The inhabitants' education levels are low and men and parents haveto emigrate to other countries. Our children are disadvantaged in many ways: they travel rarelyfurther than the nearest big town; we have few people coming from other countries to the area, so ourschool is mainly white Portuguese, this makes our community with little cultural understanding ofother cultures or religions. We hope with this project to forge sustainable links with similar anddifferent schools and cultures to help participants to appreciate the importance of cultural awarenessand competence. We would like to create a connection between other countries and our students assome of our students do not have a chance to meet children from other countries. Our school hasparticipated in Comenius Projects and Erasmus+ since 2005 and has acted as the lead school in 3 ofthe projects so we have experience in working together with other European schools. Thestaff/teachers have background knowledge about the goals, scope, necessity and importance ofsharings with various cultures in terms of educational and cultural patterns. All of the teachers areeager to take part in different projects to improve and extend their and our students’ knowledgeabout world. We strongly believe that intercultural exchanges broaden each others' horizonsespecially for children who can be further stimulated in their social and cultural growth. We are surethat this project will give our students and teachers lots of advantages and opportunities in thereciprocal knowledge.

Each member of staff has an active role inthe educational process and our school despite its small size and limited number of teaching staffhas very actively been involved in several extracurricular activities and projects such as: -The EcoSchools program -Museum Education programs promoting the cultural awareness -Active citizenshipand volunteering -Prevention programs that combating delinquency and bullying -Interdisciplinaryapplication of life education programs for self-strengthening and fight against xenophobia and racism-Intervention programs for motivation and encouragement of our immigrant students in learning theGreek language and for more active participation in school activities. -Erasmus+ ''STEM - The key tosuccess in young people's education“. In our school we applyinnovative practices for planning or organizingschool life.Active participation, collaboration and teamwork complement and strengthen our educational project. The majority of teachers in our school isthere for many years so there isn't a possibility of them leaving their post in the future. But if thishappens there are many teachers to take over their role. The teachers teamhaw set common goalsfor the correct handling of educational process , support actions and innovations with the main aimofdeveloping and encouraging students. Our school participated with great success in the EuropeanProgram Comenius in 2013-15 and many of the participants teachers in the program, have gained anexperience around these programs and they can conribute to the project.

Please describe the motivation for your project and explain why it should be funded.

The project '' Our heritage is our treasure'' is school partnership in which six countries, Croatia,Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal will work together on exploring our European culturalheritage, traditions and customs of each participating country. During the project time, while workingon project activities partners will compare their traditions, find differences and similarities, finddiversity in European unity.

Heritage is the scope of our traditions, monuments, objects, culture and contemporary activities, meanings, and behaviours that we derive from the past. It is both tangible and intangible. The ideasand memories (of songs, recipes, language, dances, legends and many other elements of who weare and how we identify ourselves) are as important as historical buildings and archaeological sites. The main motivation for our project is to promote the acquisition of cultural awareness andexpression competence, which means that we want to develop positive and open-minded attitudestowards other cultures. Cultural differences will be highlighted as something that defines eachsociety, we are all different and unique and that is our treasure. Along with differences there are, forsure, similarities which connect each country, each partner. Cultural awareness competence is acrucial element in understanding different cultures and ability to view and shape the world with asense of identity that respects others.

It is always good and interesting to read about different traditions and cultures in books or findinformation on the Internet or while watching TV. But, when somebody experiences different culturesand traditions in person, while travelling to different places, sightseeing, talking face-to-face withpeople there, while staying in host families for a week like our pupils would, while working on projectactivities in transnational groups, the knowledge participants will gain is priceless. That is alsoEuropean added value, to share, exchange and learn from European counterparts .Most pupils rarely have opportunity to travel to different countries and if they travel it is only as atourist. Within the project they will have opportunity to learn in a different way, not only about differentcultures, but also to learn new language and improve English language. Also, they will improve someother competences such as ICT skills, social competences, presentation competences, confidence.Teachers participating on certain meetings will gain knowledge they cannot gain if they don't go onmobility. It is not only seeing different places but understanding different cultures, acceptingdifferences, being more tolerant and at the same time learn new things that will strengthen the profileof their teaching profession.Needless to say that learning in a transnational environment is very motivating for both pupils andteachers.

What are the objectives you would like to achieve and concrete results you would like to produce? How are these objectives linked to the priorities you have selected?

The main objective of the project is working on activities related to European cultural heritage.Cultural heritage is our treasure and priceless value for each individual and society and as such itshould be preserved and passed to future generations. Young people and pupils should be familiarwith the value of their past and the treasure in variety of cultures. There are many forms of cultural heritage and in our project we will deal with both tangible andintangible forms. We will explore monuments, clothing, artwork, heritage sites, artefacts, food, as wellas landscapes, languages and oral traditions. As for the priority of promoting the acquisition of skills and competences, the main objective wewould like to achieve is related to learning languages. Learning languages and multilingualism haveessential role among the skills because languages open many possibilites for people and removebarriers to participation in European education and training. During project time, all participants willimprove their English language skills and learn basics of all partners' languages which will motivateand open the door to future studying of certain language in details and thoroughly.During the project time we would also like to achieve the objective related to strengthening theprofile(s) of the teaching profession. That means that teachers will gain certain knowledge andimprove their competences while participating on Learning Teaching Training activities: they willimprove their English language skills and learn basics of partners languages, improve ICT skills (WEB 2.0 tools, communication tools, cloud storage methods, webpage designs, eTwinning), learnabout CLIL and learning environment, learn about methods of storytelling and methods of usingphotography in classroom, learn about methods of teaching folklore, learn about and compareeducational systems in partners' countries. All mentioned is well related to cultural heritage topic. Results we will produce:-logo-Let’s meet each other – presentations about school, place, country-Mascot’s diary-twinspace, blog, FB page-Educational system in my country – collection of presentations-tips and instructions on ICT tools, eTwinning and WEB 2.0 tools-collection of Kahoot!, Quizlet, Quizziz games (topic- our countries, tradition, heritage)-Photography – tips how to make good photo, use in classroom-list of World Heritage Sites from our countries-collection and exhibition of photographs and postcards-folklore and traditional dances – photos, videos-CLIL, Organization of the spaces in the classroom, Storytelling workshops-collection of vocabulary games, illustrated legends-collection of photos/drawings of traditional instruments-lesson plans-traditional cookbook-special days celebrations booklet-collection of illustrated traditional songs from each country-presentations about famous artists, sports people, Nobel and Oscar winners, musicians-multilingual audio dictionary

How did you choose the project partners? Does your project involve schools that have neverpreviously been involved in a Strategic Partnership? If yes, please explain how the other partners cansupport them during the project.

The project is created by a group of schools who were previously involved in a Strategic PartnershipNumeracy@English, schools from Croatia, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Those schools cooperated verysuccessfully while carrying out the three-year long project and also while working on eTwinningprojects together. Out of that project, which was concentrated on improving pupils' and teachers'numeracy, English and ICT skills, came many benefits for pupils and teachers in every schoolinvolved. As addition to mentioned improvement in basic skills, all schools became moreinternationally orientated, more tolerant towards different cultures, more motivated to learn, moremotivated to try new methods in teaching. It was only logical to continue cooperation which was verysuccessful. That is why we would like to carry out new project, new Strategic Partnership and in thisway learn more about each other, this time focused on cultural heritage, traditions and customs, combined with improving English language skills and ICT skills and learning partners' mothertongues.

School from Cyprus was found on eTwinning forum and had recommendations from Italian partnerdue to them working together on Comenius project. School has experience in Erasmus+ projects andeTwinning projects and was very successful in carrying out mention projects.School from Greece was recommended by partner from Cyprus based on their previous work onsome Comenius and eTwinning projects. School from Greece has never previously been involved inStrategic Partnership under the Erasmus+ programme. School, teachers and pupils from Greece willcertainly have no problem while working on project activities because all other partners will help outand support them during the project. Croatian partner, as a coordinator will regularly be in touch withall the partners making sure that everybody understands everything clearly. There will be instructionshow to do certain activities, explained in details. Teachers will be in touch, they already are, viaemail, social media and twinspace. There are also videoconfrences which are very efficient when youwant to prepare something because you can talk to each other as if you are face-to -face. And just incase is needed, partner from Cyprus speaks the same language as Greek partner, so somemisunderstandings or different translations of English language can be avoided in this way.

We paid great attention to the experiences and added value of each potential partner. Each of thepartners will bring their unique experience within certain topics.

Have you used or do you plan to use eTwinning, School Education Gateway or the Erasmus+ ProjectResults Platform for preparation, implementation or follow-up of your project? If yes, please describehow.

We have used eTwinning while planning the project and also we plan to use eTwinnig forpreparation, implementation and follow-up of our project. While planning the project we usedeTwinnig to find partners and to find ideas related to activities we will carry out during project time. There are many project in which Croatian school was involved related to traditions and culture andthey motivated us to plan Strategic Partnership. Spanish partner also very experienced in eTwinning, school is involved in the project Schoolvision and was awarded last year as the winner onSchoolvision competition. That project is also very related to traditions and cultural heritage.Italian and Portuguese schools were also involved in several etwinning project and for some of themgot European Quality Label. Cypriot school has also had some eTwinning projects with goodcooperation between partners.

We plan to use eTwinning in our future project regularly. We will set up common twinspace wherethere will be pages related to activities we will carry out. There will parts which only teachers will use, such as forum, where teachers can discuss project implementation, explain different things, helpeach other.Pupils will be involved in twinspace actively. They will also use forum to get to know each other andto carry out certain activities together in international groups. There will also be chatrooms on twinspace, for teachers and for pupils, of course under teacherssupervision, We also plan to use 'live event ' option where we will schedule video conferences withmembers of twinspace. We will create two twinspaces, one for each year and we plan to apply for quality labels. Twinspacewill be open for everybody who is interested to see our activites, it will be one way of dissemination. We will post pupils photos there only with parents' written consent. We will be very careful and payattention to our pupils privacy. Also teachers will give written consent that they don't mind theirposted related to projects activities.Other schools , not involved in Strategic Partnership will be able to participate as members inprojects' twinspace. In this way we will disseminate projects results directly to other schools whichare maybe in local area of some partners school or even from another country.Twinspaces will be accessible after the project ends and it will be dissemination for a long time.

We plan to use Erasmus+ Project Results Platform for ensuring transparency and visibility of ourproject. We are aware of the fact that we will be able to submit results for review and publication onlyafter the end date is reached but in the meantime we will upload results regularly and also putadditional information, such as logo of the project and website .

How is participation in this activity going to benefit the involved participants?

Participants will benefit because they will learn that the interactive multimedia framework has the potential to change significantly the nature of theinformation worked in the classroom (with multimedia and graphic animation resources), the learning times and spaces (with the online availability ofresources) and the dynamics of the classroom. The benefits of introducing these technologies in learning contexts have been largely studied anddocumented in several countries. Research studies demonstrate greater student involvement, increased motivation, promotion of cooperativelearning (with increased peer interactions), and reinforcement of the role of teacher as a mediator of learning processes and, as a consequence, positive effects in the efficiency of teaching and learning processes. In order for the equipping of schools in QIM to be an added value, it is necessarythe committed participation of the teachers as "architects of the learning contexts" only so that it can empower for Education the benefits of this andother technologies. It seems to us, therefore, fundamental that, together with the equipping, the conditions are created so that, by leveraging thebenefits, teachers can respond to the challenges posed by the Technology Plan for Education (PTE), enhancing the benefits of technology in realchanges of practices which may constitute significant gains in the quality and efficiency of education. Continuing Teacher Training is one of theessential conditions for achieving these goals.

Participants will enjoy doing these activities, as they encourage creativity, meeting with others, knowledge of other cultures and participation. Theywill also be able to learn about different learning strategies to apply them to their everyday context.Museum - This activity will be a cultural enrichment for the participating teaching staff and it allows to strengthen links between the different culturesof the project.

It will beorganized through workshops divided in three different moments: the first will be a metacognitive reflection on the topic through different practicalactivities ( role-play, brain-storming, etc.), during the second phase the participants will be exposed and take part in videos, simulations, guidedconversations, dilemmas, etc and in the third phase the participants will be asked to put in practice all the things they have worked on during theprevious phases. The contents of the training will be: the analysis of the learning environment, how space can be modified to promote different learning styles, theawareness of how different spaces can be used for different activities and to promote learners’ autonomy and responsibility, how to use tools andfurniture creatively. ( tips and tricks to learn)Thanks to the different organization of the learning environment teachers will take on different roles ( supporter, promoter, coach, facilitator, model)and improve their knowledge of differentiated education useful in dealing with mixed ability classes and students with special needs and behavioralissues ( developing a sense of community in the school setting). The participants will reflect and discover strategies to teach difficult ( ‘unteachable’) studentsThe teachers will participate to workshops where they will use music and sport to learn different items and subjects ( sports for geography andmaths, body music for maths calculations, etc.)At the end of the training teachers will have enriched their knowledge of the above topics and will be able to modify the spaces in their schools in astructured way to facilitate their teaching. Moreover, they will discover new strategies and techniques to simplify their work.

Additionally, there will be traditional handicraft workshops related to Italian folklore and Italian cuisine. How is participation in this activity going to benefit the involved participants?

The participants will gain an awareness of new teaching techniques such as metacognitive learning, peer eduction, mixed ability teaching, they willimprove the effectiveness of their teaching, they will be able to reflect on the organization of space, they will have the opportunity to exchange goodteaching practices and create a network of European teachers who can continue their action-research activities through innovative 3.0 technologiesand European platforms ( like e-twinning, etc.) in the years following the end of the project. Our school is very sensitive and active as far as inclusion is concerned so our partners will take part in activities in classrooms where children withspecial needs and handicapped work together with other students. In our school there is also a special curriculum for the hearing impaired who use Italian sign language ( LIS) so the host teachers will be able toparticipate to a workshop on Italian sign language and observe a lesson for the hearing impaired and realize the skills students develop through thecontact with disabled students. The European teachers will bring home practical examples of school integration. Our school has also a music and sport curriculum so these two subjects are used a lot to improve cross curricular competences and our guestteachers during the training will witness the many different ways of learning that they can offer and transfer to their own contexts.

Follow UpOnce the project activities are completed, how are you going to assess if the project's objectiveshave been met?

The evaluation will be done regularly after each meeting with Learning Teaching Training activities. We will use surveys (evaluation questionnaries) for teachers after each short-term joint staff trainingevent. Teachers will answer several questions to see if workshops on certain topic have met theirexpectations and stregthen profile of their teaching profession , if they learned something new, was ituseful for their future teaching, were their skills and competences developed during the meeting. Also, they will answer the question if the whole meeting as such, and activities during the meeting, isaccording to the main priority of the project which is social and educational value of EuropeanCultural Heritage.Additionally, each team will answer questions like: have you actively participated in the preparatoryactivities of the school Erasmus+ team, are you satisfied with your team’s preparation for themeeting, are satisfied with the preparation and performance of the other partners, were all plannedactivities accomplished.

Pupils participating in short-term exchange of group of pupils activity will answer questions after themeeting to evaluate it. Questions like: have you actively participated in the preparatory activities ofthe school Erasmus+ team, are you satisfied with your team’s preparation for the meeting, aresatisfied with the preparation and performance of the other partners, were all planned activitiesaccomplished, did you enjoy the experience of travelling to another country to take part in theErasmus+ meeting, did you enjoy the experience of staying with a family in a foreign country and feltcomfortable in their home, were the teachers that accompanied you helpful and supportive, did youspend time socializing with the other foreign students taking part in the project, did you improve yourEnglish, what did you learn about the culture of the country you visited. There will be surveys for parents of travelling pupils where they will be asked how satisfied they werewith organisation of the meeting, information teachers gave them, communication with host family, traveling arrangements, benefits of sending a child on mobility. Host parents will fill in the survey inorder to find out how they are satisfied with organisation of the meeting, communication with teachersand other parents, benefits of being a host family.

Coordinators from each school will analyse each survey after each meeting and discuss what wasgood and what should be improved while organising future meetings.

We will use Google Forms for the surveys, they are easy to use and you immediately get the results.

Pupils and teachers will also be encouraged to write their own comments on Twinspace and blog togive feedback on certain activity, not only pupils and teachers participating the meeting but also otherpupils and teachers from each school.Blog will be public, so we expect feedback from teachers and pupils from other schools too.

The project '' Our heritage is our treasure'' is school partnership in which six countries, Croatia,Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal will work together on exploring our European culturalheritage, traditions and customs. During the project time, partners will compare their traditions, finddifferences and similarities, find diversity in European unity. That is the main objective of the project. In other words, the main objective is acquisition of cultural awareness competence which is a crucialelement in understanding different cultures and ability to view and shape the world with a sense ofidentity that respects others. Young people and pupils should be familiar with the value of their pastand the treasure in variety of cultures. Participation in short-term exchange of group of pupils willcertainly help pupils develop and improve cultural awareness competences.Other objective we would like to achieve is related to learning languages. There will be 2 teachers participating in each short- term joint staff training eventfrom each country, plus host teachers form certain school. For short-term exchange of group ofpupils, there will be 3 pupils from each country travelling (excluding Cyprus and Greece)accompanied by 1 teacher from that particular school. The age of pupils will be from 12 to 15. Cypriotand Greece partner are not travelling with pupils due to the age of their pupils which is younger thainin other partner schools. In numbers that means there will be 72 teachers and 36 pupils travelling. Besides mobilities, otherpupils and teachers in each school will also work on project activities through the whole project time.Basically, whole schools will be involved in the project, which means more than 2000 teachers andpupils all together will participate in the project.Teachers will develop their skills related to: ICT tool, eTwinning, WEB 2.0 tools, photography,Interactive Whiteboards, Learning Environment, CLIL, history of civilization, handicrafts, museumeducation.
