School and family (S&F) is strategic partnership based on an educative innovation experiencedeveloped from 2/2016 to 6/2019 by Colegio Rural Agrupado Entretierras-Spain alongside theUniversity of Murcia. The purpose of the activity was to increase the participation of the student’s families in certain schoolactivities, therefore helping to improve the academic performance of the children and promote asense of belonging within the school community. Now, through the development of an Erasmus+project 2019-21 (KA229) scheduled for 24 months, the intention is to take advantage of the results ofthe aforementioned experience to transfer them to the European context. Therefore, the main objective of the project is to increase the democratic participation of studentsand families in school life, and consequently achieve greater social inclusion within the localcommunity, country and Europe.Although the project focuses on social inclusion as a horizontal priority, it also aims to improvechildren's access to education and train families in high quality care for young children, and addressissues such as early school leaving, gender equality and fairness in education. As well as this, theproject seeks to modernise and internationalise the participating schools, share their culturalcharacteristics and create impact so that the results are beneficial for other schools on a local, national and European level.

There are five primary schools participating in the project: Grundschule Herzogenaurach-Germany,Istituto Comprensivo Ada Negri-Italy, Pubiczna Szoła Postawowa nr 2 im. Jana Pawła 2-Poland,Bohrskolen-Denmark and C.R.A. Entretierras-Spain as the project coordinator. In this sense, thedirect recipients will be approximately: 251 innovative teachers who are motivated to continue theirtraining, 4837 students of varied ages and nationalities, and 3420 families of different socioeconomicstatus. Indirect participates are also considered to be universities, parents’ associations, local socialorganisations, city councils, educational authorities and the media. With regards to the profile of the participants, it is important to point out that they come from countriesof different geographical locations, history, culture and educational systems; however they all sharethe same common concern of increasing cohesion among the members of their community, increasethe feeling of belonging to the European Union and improving their teaching methods to cater for theirdiverse students.

In order to achieve the aims of the project, a cooperative methodology is used which begins withteacher training through the exchange of good practices and multicultural educational innovations, based on selected topics in five transnational learning, teaching and training activities. Next, theseexperiences will be applied in twelve common local activities for the students and families of eachpartner school. Following this, all the activities will be evaluated by the participants and condensedinto valuable results transferable to other educational centres throughout Europe.

Our school is divided into three locations that are situated in three small villages along the coast ofSouth-eastern Spain (Murcia). We are located in an agricultural and disadvantaged area with lowsocioeconomic status. We have 281 students (Kindergarten-3 levels: 3 to 5 years old. PrimaryEducation - 6 levels: 6 to 12 years old) and 31 teachers (9 of them have B2 English Level) At theheadquarters of the school (El Jimenado location) there are 10 classes. At the “Los Meroños” and“Los Olmos” sites there are mixed-age classes, i.e. groups including students of different ages andacademic levels. 51,6% of the students in our school are immigrants from Latin America, North Africaand Eastern Europe, and generally they come from poor families; hence we have different projectsfor their integration. We have some students with learning difficulties (12.09%) and specialeducational needs (4.98%). Therefore, we adapt our methodology and didactic strategies to cater forall levels and needs. We are involved in a Spanish-English bilingual program, using CLILmethodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning) to teach in English for 30% of ourcurriculum. Furthermore, we teach French to students aged 10-12. Over the last three years we havebeen developing, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, an educational innovation projectwhose objective is to improve the participation of students’ families in the school activities andincrease their feeling of belonging to it. In this way, through the development of an Erasmus + KA229project next year, we want to offer other teachers of European schools our research, innovations andprevious educational experiences on this subject, and at the same time, to learn other good practicesto enrich our “Improvement Plan of the democratic participation of students and families in the schoollife”. The participation of the school in this project aims to involve the entire educational community(students, families and staff), therefore the participation of the entire teaching staff led by theheadmaster (Fulgencio Garijo Castellanos) and his management team is contemplated. In the casethat the headmaster leaves his post in future school courses, it will be the deputy headmaster (MaríaCasanova Gómez) and her new team who will assume these functions to ensure the continuity of theproject. Our school joined, as an associate, in two Comenius Lifelong Learning Programmes: 2010-2012: I love this game - 2013-2015: Development of teaching models to support methodologicalskills. Due to the characteristics of the student body (extra-community nationalities) and our ruralgeographical location (in small towns), our school has a “European Development Plan”, whichincludes interesting activities to bring our students to Europe. Our staff has specific training tofacilitate the social inclusion of students and their families, which is innovative, creative and wants toexpand their knowledge on this subject.

We have 650 students intotal including 90 Kindergarden students (3 levels – from 4 to 6 years old) and 560 Primary schoolstudents (8 levels divided into 2 parts. First 3 levels with students aged from 7 to 9 and 4 levels witholder students from 10 to 15). Students are in classes of different academic levels though they areable to choose a class profile which suits their interests and abilities. There are sport classes (withmore PE lessons) and language classes (students have more English and German lessons). Thereare 15 immigrant students mostly from the neighbouring countries. We have some students withlearning difficulties (5.38%) and special education needs (9.23%). Therefore, we adapt ourmethodology and didactic strategies to cater for all levels and needs. They are offered extra-curricular classes to overcompensate their difficulties. Some students have Individual Learning Plansor Special needs programmes. Teachers include CLIL methodology projects in their curriculum aswell as some eTwinning projects. Our school is open to new challenges and the participation in theproject with multicultural team will help us exchange new ideas of teaching and learning and inspireour daily school routine. Thanks to the Erasmus+ meetings and common work both teachers andstudents will learn about different European education systems, experiment new procedures andcompare them with their own. What is more, as the language of the project is a foreign language forthe participating countries, the common work and exchanges are perfect opportunities to learn andpractise the language, to use it for scientific purposes and practise it every day. That is why westrongly believe the participation in the project will be a significant enrichment for our school life. Theparticipation of the school in this project aims to involve the entire educational community (students, families and staff), therefore, the participation of the entire teacher staff led by the headmaster(Krzysztof Ubysz) and two deputy headmasters: Marianna Łaski and Łucja Ceglińska. Themanagement team will be supported by English teachers, especially by Anna Iwaniuk and ArturMyśliński and German teacher Piotr Niewadzisz. Our school took part in Comenius project: "Theatreand space discovering" (September 2003 – June 2006, Poland – France – Bulgaria). Our Englishteacher took part in Erasmus+ project "Games makes everyone more supportive" (September 2014-2016, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia) and in KA1 teachers development projects. What’s more, the school cooperates with Positive- Thinking Institute in different project concerning psychologicalaspects of student life, keeping mentally healthy.

Please describe the motivation for your project and explain why it should be funded.

The idea for this project was born at CRA Entretierras-Spain as a result of the development of anExternal Evaluation (2016-17) coordinated by a research team at the University of Murcia, to assessthe affect of a possible increase in the participation of students’ families on the aims of the SpanishEducational System. As a result, this assessment highlighted the urgent need for teachers to developnew actions to involve students’ families more, in order to inspire greater motivation for learning andto improve performance of the students at school.Following this, the school participated in a seminar of teacher training 2017-18 to discover thescientific basis and benefits of working on these issues. Finally it decided to design and implementnew actions around families involvement through an Educational Innovation Project being carried outthroughout the current school year.During the sessions of the aforementioned innovation Project in November of 2018, the schoolmanagement team discovered that the “Social Inclusion” it was one of the eleven priorities of theEuropean Commission for 2014-20; due to, among other issues, the growing increase of migratorymovements and the cohesion difficulties of the citizens that live in the Member States of theEuropean Union. In this way, they concluded that work for social inclusion and the prevention ofschool failure through family participation in the school, was not only necessary for only the Spanishnational territory and it could be extended to the educational communities of the other Europeancountries.

At the same time, achieve this project to transfer the Spanish borders would be the next Europeanadded value which would justify their financing:*Pedagogical dimension:-Knowledge of other European Educational Systems.-Comparison of different theoretical foundations that argue the need to involve families in the school.-Comparison of different forms of carrying out activities among students, families and teachers.-Detection of the positive effects on school performance and social inclusion of students afterapplying strategies of family cooperation and democratic participation.*Cultural dimension:-Enhance the global European values.-Assessment of the cultural traits of each country.-Learn about European cultural diversity.-Use of English as the language of communication.-Learning of basic vocabulary in the languages of the participants.-Communication between the students of the different countries.*European cohesion:-Simultaneous application of the same local activities in each school.

Finally, it should be noted that this project would be included in the European Development Plans forthe next two school years of the associated schools. This strategic partnership would contribute tointernationalisation, modernisation and improvement of linguistic competence in English and trainingof participating schools.

How did you choose the project partners? Does your project involve schools that have neverparticipated in a Strategic Partnership? If yes, please explain how more experienced schools cansupport less experienced partners during the project.

The project began in C.R.A Entretierras-Spain with the aim of extending the need to involve morestudent families in school life to contribute to a better achievement to the basic education aims to aEuropean context. In November 2018, we contacted a German headmaster who we had previously collaborated, with toinform him of the idea. Immediately, his school considered the project topic interesting to work on.Later on, we started to look for partners through the Teacher Centre in Murcia and announced theproposal on the “School Education Gateway” and “eTwinning live” platforms. Between the offersreceived, an Italian, a Polish and a Danish school, all with long trajectories in collaborative andtraining work with their students families, students and Town Halls excelled. In January 2019 weasked them to fill in a questionnaire to have more information about their previous experiences in thisfield, how they could contribute to the project and what would they expect from it. Once all theinformation was received, their admission to this possible strategic association was granted and westarted to write the project together.

*Skills and experience:The Spanish school has an experience of 8 years in bilingual teaching, 2 Comenius projects, digitalcompetence, methodology in teaching Early Childhood Education and together with MurciaUniversity 3 years of research in cooperative work with student families.

The German school has a national certificate in “Primary school for sports” and it has experience inSINUS-project (mathematical learning)

The Italian school participates in “Piano nazionale scuola digitale”, an ICT national school networkwith the cooperation of other Italian schools that joined an ICT project to develop the informationtechnology competences of the teachers and the ICT staff in schools. Also in Cambridge EnglishQualification: KET

The Polish school has created extra classes on language learning for certain levels, and also PEclasses. Their teachers commonly use ICT and they take part in eTwinning projects. Also, they havebeen collaborating with Positive Education Institute, General Sanitary Institute and National FoodProducers’ Foundation in many different projects.

The Danish school provides an inclusive education, which places a high emphasis on basic skillsincluding ICT, technology and robotics. They have specific classes for highly motivated and giftedpupils and a special program for elite sport athletes. They develop a regional project called“University schools”

*How the most experienced will help the less:There will be an initial transnational management meeting in the coordinating country to organise allthe work and resolve all the organisational and technical doubts. First mobilities will be carried out inschools with experience in transnational projects. The project coordinator will make their email and telephone number available to the rest of themembers to establish an incident resolution service.

Follow UpHow are you going to assess if the project's objectives have been met?

-General Plan of Project Evaluation-All partners school teachers will fill in a questionnaire at the beginning of the Project (9/2019) andafter each mobility to assess the transnational and local activities developed (the assessmentinstruments will be designed by the German School from the evaluation indicators in this section toanalyse the results comparing them with success indicators). During the last work session intransnational mobilities, each delegation will show a presentation which will respond to: What havewe learned? What will we transfer to our school? and suggestions for the next meeting. For the lastperiod of the project (3/2021), students and families from each partner school will fill in a satisfactionquestionnaire prepared, the results of which will be summarised in a national report (all partners)

The reports of the 6 previous evaluations and all results will be presented in 4 newsletters (Denmarkand all), which will be published on eTwinning (Denmark), Websites (local-all partners and common-Italy) and Erasmus+ Results Platform (Spain). Finally, national leaders will participate in the successand impact assessment and also in the mid-term and final evaluations. These will be specified in twoofficial reports (coordinator) which will be then transferred to the National Agency.

General indicators of the evaluation are included below (from which more specific indicators will becreated depending on the assessment time and the developed activities up until that date).Evaluators will score each item from 0 to 10. Once the arithmetic mean of the results obtained hasbeen made a score of 5 points will be considered “Acceptable” and any value exceeding the scoresdetailed below at the end of each indicator will be considered “Successful”:-The proposed objectives contribution to the achievement of the project priorities-(8p)-Achievement degree of each project objective-(8p)-Activities quantity and distribution suitability-(8p)-The contribution of a transnational management meeting to the achievement of the expected results-(8.5p)-The contribution of each transnational meeting to the achievement of the expected results (foreignparticipants number, schedule, methodology, training, activities, cultural events, results, integration inhost school, educational community participation, accommodation, transports, meals, safety andparticipants impact)-(8.5p)-The contribution of each local activity to the achievement of the expected results (participants’impact)-(8p)-Suitability and balance of the tasks distributed between partner schools-(8p)-Participants teachers’ communication-(9p)-Partners cooperation degree assessment (eTwinning, Twitter, email, social networks, mobilities...)-(8p)-Project dissemination general plan suitability-(7p)-Impact assessment (on students, families, teachers, partners, local and European environment)-(7p)-Project sustainability degree and possibility to continue on it once completed-(7p)
