TRANSFORMATIONAL Style

Who is the woman you always dreamed of being? What is she like? How does she dress?

Who was instrumental in teaching you about fashion and style? Was it done in a loving manner or with judgement? Was it communicated to you by someone who was an expert in fashion?

Are there any misguided style messages you may need to revisit and move on from?

WHO?

STYLE?

REVISIT?

3

Do you have a symbolic “Red Blouse”?

RED?

STORY?

Do you have a “story” that you want to move on from? Is there someone you may need to forgive? Is that person you? What are some steps you could take? (Counseling, prayer, journaling , a healing conversation when the time is right, etc.)

MATCH YOUR HAIR COLOR

MATCH YOUR EYE COLOR

COLOR RXHair colors fall into two basic categories~ Warm tones- with red, auburn or gold and Cool tones- champagne, ash or black.

You will get your truest results by using your NATURAL hair color (before gray :)) if you can remember what it is!!

If you can’t find an exact match, no worries. Choose the color closest to yours, but stay in your Warm tone or Cool tone family.

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SILHOUETTE

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• Show off your body by wearing clothes that define your waist, enhance your bust, and highlight your hips and bottom.

• Avoid wearing clothes that hide your body line, or you risk looking a few pounds heavier!

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- Fitted, with waist definition.• Tops- Shaped, crossovers or wraps• Skirts- Straight, paneled, flip, bias cut, soft pleats, or full,

preferably with a waistband and some shaping (darts) over the hips and bottom

• Pants- Any type with a waistband.• Jeans- Any!• Dresses- Any style, either shaped or belted• Coats- All shapes, that have a belt or some shape at the

waist• Swimwear- As long as your proportions are good, you

can wear any style

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• Choose fabrics that are light to medium in weight and texture. These will skim the curves of your body.

• Cotton• Linen• Silk• Tightly woven gabardine to relaxed wool crepe

• All jerseys and polyesters and knit

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Because the top and bottom half of your body are in balance, you are able to wear most types of pattern.

• Stripes and checks• Polka dots• Florals and paisleys

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Boxy jackets• Pants or skirts that have no shaping• Straight tunics• Men’s shirts• Too much layering

+ NEAT HOURGLASS

14

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• It is important that you wear clothes that follow your body line as opposed to those that are straight and constrict you.

• Choose fabrics carefully. Avoid heavy of stiff materials, or you’ll end up with tops and jackets that are two to three sizes bigger that you need just to accommodate your curves

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- Shaped, with shawl collars or concealed front openings.

• Tops- Shaped, crossovers, or wraps, in soft fabrics• Skirts- Flip, bias or full, and adjustable at the waist• Pants- Flat-fronted with side zipper• Dresses- Shaped, wrap, or bias-cut sheath.• Coats- Shawl collar, single-breasted, or shaped• Swimwear- Under wiring or support is essential. Avoid

stripes and detailing at the bust and hips

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• Should be light to medium weight, with little texture. If choosing cotton or linen, look for fabrics cut on the bias to give movement and accommodate your curves:

• Silk and chiffon• Relaxed and wool crepe• All jerseys and polyesters• Fine knits• Fabric that gives and stretches• Lycra, is your best friend

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Avoid geometric patterns, because lines will not lie straight over your curves. Instead, opt for more fluid shapes such as:

• Florals• Paisleys• Circles and squiggles

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Straight skirts, except in soft fabrics with some Lycra,• Boxy, double-breasted jackets• Straight tunics• Front-opening shirts and blouses• Baggy sweaters and sportswear• Too much layering • Crisp fabrics

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SILHOUETTE

+ FULL HOURGLASS

15

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• Your jackets and tops need to finish either above or below the widest point of your hips and bottom.

• Layering on your top half creates visual interest and draws the eye upward

• Buy jackets or tops that fit your shoulders rather than your hips. You can always leave the bottom button undone

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- Details, collars, pockets, buttons, or dou-ble-breasted are excellent.

• Tops- Patterned, horizontal stripes, or twinsets• Skirts- Simple lines: long flip, bias cut, or paneled• Pants- Plain, flat-fronted with side zipper, bootleg, or

flared (for long legs)• Dresses- Separates work better• Coats- Square shoulders or wide collars• Swimwear- Keep detailing above the waist. Beware of

high-cut styles that finish at your widest point

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• Your aim is to balance out your body shape, so certain fabrics will work best on your lower half:

• Light- to medium- weight fabrics with minimum texture are best

• Soft, fluid fabrics that drape easily, such as wool crepe, jersey, knits, fabrics cut on the bias, silks

Other fabrics that will flatter and draw attention to your top half are:

• Light fabrics worn layered• Medium-to heavyweight fabrics• Texture, which adds volume• Cotton and linen• All types of woolen fabrics• Crisper fabrics, which add bulk.

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Any pattern, such as florals or horizontal stripes, is a great way to draw attention to the upper half of your body. Always wear plain colors below the waist.

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Jeans (too many pockets)• Straight skirts• Details on skirts and pants• Halter necks and raglan sleeves• Tight-fitting, single-layered tops• Tops and jackets that finish at your widest point

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SILHOUETTE+ TRIANGLE

16

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• You will need to keep detail to a minimum on your shoulder line; keep this area as simple as possible.

• Your clothing lines need to be straight, clean, and sharp• Your silhouette should be uncluttered

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- Constructed, or shaped with angular lines (collars with lapels).

• Tops- Simple lines• Skirts- Straight, box pleats or paneled• Pants- Any style-pockets and details will accentuate your

bottom• Dresses- Simple, straight lines or sheaths• Coats- Straight lines with a slightly shaped waistline and

no belt• Swimwear- Halter and square necklines work well, as do

details on the hips. Avoid floral patterns. Go for styles where tops and bottoms are sold separately

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• Crisp, constructed fabrics work best for you because your body line is straight and angled.

• Crisp cottons and linens• Gabardine and fine wool• Satins and crisp silks • Crinkled fabrics

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Stripes• Checks• Geometrics• Squiggles and dots

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Frills and flounces• Gathered waistlines• Tiered skirts• Soft, floppy, and fluffy fabrics• Bias cuts

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SILHOUETTE+ INVERTED TRIANGLE

17

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• Highlight your hips and bottom.• Enhance your bustline with details• Your clothing line needs to be straight, with emphasis on

the waist• Use texture and layering

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- Waisted jackets, with details or pockets.• Tops- Details, textures, patterns, and layers• Skirts- A-line, paneled, gored, or pleated• Pants- Shaped, pleated, and pocketed• Dresses- Princess line with curved darts and details on

the bust and hips• Coats- shaped• Swimwear- Padded styles are perfect. Use patterned

two-pieces to emphasize your bust and hips. Vertical chevron lines on a one-piece will give the illusion of shape

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• Textured fabrics or fabrics that you can layer are both good choices for you.

• Cottons and linens Gabardine, fine wool, and lightweight tweeds

• Satins and silks• Crinkled fabrics• Light, woven textures

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Wearing pattern on your top half will draw the eye and emphasize your bust, while clothing details such as pockets will accentuate your hips.

• Squiggles, paisleys, and dots• Horizontal stripes• Checks• Geometrics• Discreet florals

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Full frills and flounces• Large, gathered skirts• Belted jackets and coats• Bulky, heavy textures• Close-fitting, figure-hugging garments

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SILHOUETTE+ LEAN COLUMN

18

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• Use details on your hips and bottom to create shape.• Avoid details at the waist, such as noticeable waistbands

or belts• Keep your clothing lines straight• Go for the uncluttered look

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- Structured and shaped.• Tops- Simple, clean lines• Skirts- Crossover, straight, or paneled• Pants- The choice is yours• Dresses- Simple, straight lines or sheaths• Coats- Straight lines with some emphasis on the waist• Swimwear- On a one-piece, a central panel in a darker

shade gives the illusion of a slimmer shape, as do square necklines. Avoid high-waisted bikini bottoms, and choose geometric patterns

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• You can wear crisp fabrics, but if you have a full bust, slightly softer fabrics work better.

• Wool crepe and woven wool• Cottons and linens• Jersey and lightweight tweeds• Fine knits

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Geometric patterns work best for you because your body is straight.

• Vertical stripes• Checks• Geometrics• Squiggles and dots

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Frills and flounces• Gathered waistlines• Soft, floppy, and fluffy fabrics• Bias cuts• Belted jackets and coats• Florals and paisleys

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SILHOUETTE+ RECTANGLE

19

YOUR GOLDEN RULES

• Make sure the clothes you wear hang from your shoulders.

• Clothing lines need to be straight, and fabrics soft to avail any unnecessary volume or bulkiness

• Keep any detail above the bustline and below the hipline• Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

YOUR CLOTHING LINES

• Jackets- cardigan-style, collarless, shawl collar, V-shaped neckline.

• Tops- simple lines, no details• Skirts- wrap, flip or paneled• Pants- drawstrings, no waistband• Dresses- A-line (trapeze)• Coats- A-line, cardigan-style• Swimwear- try a tankini or tank top that covers the

middle and isn’t too figure hugging. For more cover, use a sarong. Details on the shoulders draw the eye toward your face

YOUR BEST FABRICS

• The key is to choose soft, fluid fabrics that hang well and don’t cling or hug the figure.

• Stiff or thick fabric will add unwelcome girth• Soft cottons and linens• Wool crepe• Jersey• Knits• Silks

YOUR BEST PAT TERNS

• Try to go for muted and subtle patterns as much as pos-sible; anything too bold will overpower.

• Soft or faded stripes• Squiggles and dots

• Abstract florals or paisleys

YOU SHOULD AVOID

• Stiff fabrics• Pockets• Gathered waistlines or any other details over the

tummy area• Sharp, angular details such as lapels• Vibrant and dramatic patterns over the torso

PURCHASING CLOTHESYOU NEVER WEARHOW TO AVOID

BONUS 01 Try it on! I know this seems simple, but you may be buying things because you THINK they might work :). Move around/sit down in it to make sure the “fit” responds positively to your movements. 02 Does it fit well? If you love it and it doesn’t fit quite right, have it altered right away. Clothing that fits properly is the difference between looking good and looking GREAT!

03 Is it comfortable? Discomfort is the number one reason we don’t wear things. Keep this in mind especially for shoes.

04 Buy the set or outfit. That way you will ALWAYS have something to wear with it.

05 Stick to solids (for the most part). They are much more versatile.

06 If you have something you need to match, bring it with you when you go shopping. Yet another obvious tip, but you’d be surprised how many women don’t.

IS IT ONE OF YOUR BEST COLORS?

35

PURCHASING CLOTHESYOU NEVER WEARHOW TO AVOID

BONUS 07 (Raise your right hand) “I will not purchase anything I do not absolutely LOVE!” Ask yourself, will I be excited to wear this? Will it be a good investment?

08 Before you purchase, make sure you understand the store’s return policy. I mostly shop in stores with liberal return policies.

09 Save your receipts in a file folder or envelope labeled “Clothing”. Keep the tags on the clothing until you are ready to wear it and then clip them to the corresponding receipt. That way you can breeze thru a return if necessary.

10 Avoid making impulse purchases because you THINK you need something new to wear. Impulse buys often don’t work out and chances are you have something in your closet that could be dolled up with a new accessory or pashmina!
