VOL. 57 NO. 26 24 DECEMBER 2015 MEETS THURSDAYS 6pm for 6:30pm @ THE FOUNDRY HOTEL “Connect to the Community” Welcome to this week’s edition of the Signpost Our last meeting for 2015 saw members and partners come together to enjoy a delicious two course meal prepared by our hosts at the Foundry Arms for our last time in the Platinum Room. It will be a shame that this wonderful venue as we now know it will not be around for very much longer as the complex commences some new renovations. The highlight of the evening was provided by our special guest in Father Rob Galea who entertained us with his wonderful singing and provided us with some thought provoking messages around the theme of Christmas. I would like to thank Matthew for arranging to have Father Rob join us. Perhaps there may be some opportunity for our club to assist him with a mutually agreeable community project at a future time. Remember our Club Motto is- Connect to the Community. Also three of the four new members made a presentation of $1000 to the Our Shed in Eaglehawk as part of their initiation program into the workings of Rotary. Norm Beams, a man who has undergone some major traumas in his life, mainly as a result of a car accident he incurred in his 20’s, received this donation on behalf of Our Shed. Norm very bravely stood up in front of strangers and explained the importance Our Shed has been in making his life more bearable and praised its staff and its volunteers. If you are ever in Eaglehawk it is well worth a visit to see the good things happening in what can only be described as very old and a under resourced facility. Also Norm’s garden is a real credit to him and is well worth a look. Just two doors down from the Courthouse Pub! Our outgoing exchange student, namely Emmaby Barton Grace, gave us a presentation outlining what is in store for her when she ventures off to Denmark. The initial work Emmaby has already undergone to familiarize herself with her forthcoming exchange was indeed impressive. We wish her a wonderful and fulfilling experience and from my meetings with Emmaby I am confident she is going to be a great ambassador for rotary and our club. We will look forward to her safe return and hearing about her adventures in a little over one year. As one exchange experience begins another is soon to end. During January we will wave good bye to Gus who will head back home to his family and friends in Brazil. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Gus on the no fuss way he has fitted into our club. Also a special thank you to his four wonderful host families-Gary Pinner and Sharon Pfeiffer, Greg and Kylie Mc Alpine, Geoff and Irene Mc Kinna and Athol and Jill Fredericks. I am sure you have all been a big part of Gus’s development in the year he is about to complete in Australia. January 7 2016 we will begin the second half of the Rotary year with a social gathering at our home at 121 Allies Road Myers Flat. The carvery will be in full swing with a buffet of assorted roasted meats and salads followed by desserts. It is BYO booze and soft drinks and a chair. Cost will be $20 p.p any children under 16 are free. Starting 30 minutes later 6.30pm for 7pm but if anyone wants to come early to go yabbying prior let me know and I will have the nets and meat ready and will point you in the right direction. As it will be Gus’s last night with us let’s all roll up and give him a good old Aussie send off. I am sure I can come up with one or two surprises! On behalf of Betty and myself I will take this opportunity to wish you all a joyful Christmas celebration with families and look forward to working together again in 2016 to try a bit harder -To be A Gift to The World. “Connect to the Community”

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Signpost Our last meeting for 2015 saw members and partners come together to enjoy a delicious two course meal

prepared by our hosts at the Foundry Arms for our last time in the Platinum Room. It will be a shame that

this wonderful venue as we now know it will not be around for very much longer as the complex

commences some new renovations.

The highlight of the evening was provided by our special guest in Father Rob Galea who entertained us with

his wonderful singing and provided us with some thought provoking messages around the theme of

Christmas. I would like to thank Matthew for arranging to have Father Rob join us. Perhaps there may be

some opportunity for our club to assist him with a mutually agreeable community project at a future time.

Remember our Club Motto is- Connect to the Community.

Also three of the four new members made a presentation of $1000 to the Our Shed in Eaglehawk as part of

their initiation program into the workings of Rotary. Norm Beams, a man who has undergone some major

traumas in his life, mainly as a result of a car accident he incurred in his 20’s, received this donation on

behalf of Our Shed. Norm very bravely stood up in front of strangers and explained the importance Our

Shed has been in making his life more bearable and praised its staff and its volunteers. If you are ever in

Eaglehawk it is well worth a visit to see the good things happening in what can only be described as very old

and a under resourced facility. Also Norm’s garden is a real credit to him and is well worth a look. Just two

doors down from the Courthouse Pub!

Our outgoing exchange student, namely Emmaby Barton Grace, gave us a presentation outlining what is in

familiarize herself with her forthcoming exchange was indeed impressive. We wish her a wonderful and

fulfilling experience and from my meetings with Emmaby I am confident she is going to be a great
