Crosslinks is determined to provide quality supports and services to people with disability. We often reflect on our practices and identify better ways to achieve our purpose. However sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know. We rely on participants and families to let us know what’s working and what’s not working. Seeking honest and open feedback helps us to do better. For this reason, we have recently introduced a simple participant, family and external supporters’ satisfaction survey. Our fabulous NDIS Plan Support Officers Katie and Marina, will be encouraging families to complete the anonymous surveys during your annual plan reviews. The survey will assist us to understand what we are doing well so we can do more of it and recognise where we aren’t doing so great so we can improve it. We look forward to hearing what you are and aren’t satisfied with at Crosslinks! Kind Regards Kate McBride Youth Club This year Crosslinks is exploring the development of youth services for people with disability! There are so many support and services options that could be explored such as youth clubs, school holiday programs, preparation for leaving school etc. To start with we are exploring interest in a youth club, something similar to RAP however it will be offered to youth aged between 13 and 17. Do you know people and families that might be interested in such a Youth Club? Do they have an NDIS plan that has goals and funding relating to accessing the community? If so, encourage them to get in contact with Donna Moss who is our wonderful Acting Youth and RAP Officer. RAP Recreation & Participation News The 15th Annual Sculpture by The Sea exhibition was on display at Cottesloe Beach from 1st to 18th March 2019.

The exhibition was featured from the sea wall all the way along the sand towards North Cottesloe and on the surrounding grassed areas creating a beautiful sculpture park.

The Saturday Evening RAP Group visited this wonderful exhibition again this year.

The exhibition is a hugely popular event with an estimated annual attendance of 240,000 people – the majority of which visit the exhibition during the weekends.

Sculpture by the Sea aims to engender a greater sense of community, introduce the public to a broad spectrum of sculpture, and support emerging and established national and international artists.

The Sculpture by the Sea Access & Inclusion program is in continual development and review to ensure our free to the public exhibitions are inclusive and positively encourage the participation of people with diverse abilities of all ages to enjoy and experience sculpture in a beautiful setting.

The program supports the public profile of people with disability and their active role as audience members. Tactile Tours are designed to introduce visitors with disability to new ways of experiencing and enjoying contemporary sculpture through informed discussion and touch. The works selected for each tour have been nominated by both the Artists and the Sculpture by the Sea Site Manager as being safe to touch. The sculptures are located in accessible areas.

Community Inclusion News Every Friday, the Lockridge Church Hall is filled with excited chatter and laughter as a large group of our participants gather together to undertake a variety of Art and Craft activities. Last year, decorations for the ‘Christmas in July’ and “Halloween” discos were made by the group. Already this year, the participants have painted t-shirts, some of the ladies have made very impressive jewellery items and a vast amount of colourful artwork has been created. They have also made some coloured streamers to be used by the new Zumba group.

Pictured here is Kate, a local resident, who often joins in the Art and Craft sessions and loves to interact with the group.

Community Inclusion News (continued) This month Community Inclusion has taken advantage of the free tactile tours at Sculpture by the Sea. These are provided specifically for individuals with disability to engage in the art more closely and with a guide to talk about the art with them. Several individuals took part in these tours and enjoyed getting out, enjoying the sunshine, and a day by the beach. There were some rescue practices being performed by helicopter which enthralled some Sculpture goers as much, if not more, than the art itself. We look forward to this event each year and thank DADDA and Sculpture by the Sea for including us in the invitation to join in on the tours.

It was a nice balmy 28 degrees, perfect day for a stroll at the historic Success Hill. Most Sundays, the guys choose where they would like to go or what they would like to do.

Chris gathered sticks and flowers, Chris loves the outdoors and getting his hands dirty. Both of the gents enjoyed a relaxing day

Community Living News (continued)

On Saturday at our residence in Lombardy Street, Desmond spent the morning chatting to loved ones on the phone, organizing to see them at the next family gathering.

Desmond creates special cards to give to his family members when he sees them next, with supplies he selects from the house craft room. Each card is personalised with certain colours, gems and has a hand written message inside.

Desmond also cleans out his bird cage, ensuring his birds are fed, have fresh water and have a nice clean tray. His birds are very happy you can hear them singing their song for the rest of the day.
