Teaching CornerBAPTISMAL PREPARATION: Attendance at a Baptismal Preparation session is required to have your child baptized. Sessions are in Room 101 at 1:30 p.m. on April 12. Contact Deacon Chuck Wright at [email protected] or by calling 667-

VIRTUS SESSIONS: We will be hosting monthly Virtus Protecting God’s Children sessions here at St. John. To find and register for one of these sessions, you should go to www.virtusonline.org; at this website, click on the word “Registration” and you will be guided through the registration process. Sessions are listed

for the whole Archdiocese so you can look for a time and location that best suits your calendar. Preregistration is required for attendance at any session in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Sessions are free of charge.

COFFEE with CHRIST: Come join us in the Banquet Hall for a three-part series titled Eucharist by Fr. Robert Barron. This series will run April 19, from 9:15 to 10:00 a.m. This series explores insights into the mystery of Christ’s presence in our lives and the centrality of the Eucharist as an important part of that presence. It takes a fresh look at the Eucharist as a sacred meal, the sacrifice necessary for communion

with God and the real presence of Christ. The sessions will be facilitated by Jacqui Lehmkuhl. Plan to come enjoy a cup of coffee and a fresh baked goodie and join in the discussion with others who are striving to live as the Body of Christ.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 22, 2015

Upcoming Events40 Days for Life: Our spring 40 Days for Life campaign is approaching. This organization began in 2007 and St. John’s has participated since 2008. Since that time, there have been 650,000.00 participants in 27 countries, with 9,699 lives saved from abortion. We all need to pray as much as possible and where we take our prayers makes a difference! Won’t you please consider giving an hour of your time, to be a visible presence on the sidewalk outside the Kettering abortion clinic on Saturday, March 28th? Please contact Judie McKitrick (339-9355) or [email protected] to sign up or for more information.

THE GOSPEL OF MARK: Join us for a walk through of the Gospel of Mark, the first and shortest of the Gospels. As we hear from Mark’s Gospel during this liturgical year, it may be helpful to understand more of the background. The study group will meet on Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. in Room 106, Beginning on April 22nd, we will be using the Threshold Bible Study guide by Stephen Binz. Atha Toon will be

the facilitator for this series. If you plan to attend, please contact Atha at 667-3815. You may also contact the Parish Office to reserve a spot for this event. There will be a $10.00 fee to cover the cost of the materials.

Agape Dinner: St. John’s Parish Family will gather to remember the meal shared by Christ and His disciples, Thursday, April 2, 2015, Gather 6:00 p.m. in the Banquet Hall. Meal at 6:15 p.m. Mass begins at 7:30 p.m. Please bring a salad, vegetable or dessert to share. Beverages, bread and meat will be provided.

Easter Basket Project: Stephen Ministry is again making Easter Baskets for the homebound and nursing home Catholics in St. John’s area. We are going to try something different. Monetary donations is all we are asking for this year. This new idea will save you a shopping trip. Envelopes, marked Easter Basket

Donation, are in an Easter Basket in the narthex. You can put the envelopes back in the basket with information filled out, drop it in the Sunday collection, or bring your donation to the parish office. You can also do the same using your own envelope marked Easter Basket donation. We are assembling the baskets on Tuesday, March 31st in the parish Banquet Hall at 7:00 p.m. If you have time, please come. We would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance for your donations.

AnnouncementsDue to the Parish office being closed on April 2-3, our bulletin for that weekend is due on March 27th. If you have any articles, please have them to Victoria by Noon on March 26th. Thank you!

Attention, all Parishioners, all holiday decorations need to be removed from the cemetery by April 1. Thank you.

PSR WILL RESUME ON APRIL 12. We will have a three-week break in our PSR schedule to allow for Spring Break and Easter. We hope that the rest of your Lent will be a blessing and that the celebration of Holy Week and Easter will be a time of great joy in your lives. Please note that Children’s Liturgy of the Word will continue at the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend a life-changing experience on April 26, 2015, 6:00-7:30 p.m. here at St. John’s. Dr. John Wood and SimplyRC will be at St. John’s to share their message. “They are powerful….the music during John’s talk, I just can’t say enough.”

– Kathy Weins, Event Coordinator, Hutchinson, KS

SpiritualHungering for a Healthy Harvest CRS Rice Bowl brings our Lenten journey back to Africa this week, to the Democratic Republic of Congo. We join our fasting in solidarity with people who go hungry, and we remember in prayer the importance of building a community that is willing to support those most in need.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time and with their loved ones at home. We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace.

Help CenterInterested in helping clean the church? We’re looking for your assistance. We need volunteers to pick one month out of the year to come once a week, for 1 hour, to help clean the church and Narthex. This would be 4-5 times a month. Church cleaners are especially needed during the months of January, March and September. If this is something you think you would like to do, please give Sandy Hipp a call at 667-3223 or call the Parish Office at 667-3419.

ST. VINCENT HOTEL CALL FOR SUPPLIES: Due to the unusually harsh winter we have had, St. Vincent’s Hotel is in dire need of the following: blankets, sheets, towels, washrags, men’s and women’s and children’s underwear, gloves, mittens, scarfs, coats, boots, etc. Also, toiletries such as toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, baby lotion, disposable diapers, baby wipes. If you have items to donate, please drop them off at St. John’s office or contact Mike Begley (667-2882) or Carol Farron (667-1620) and we will make arrangements to get your donations to St. Vincent’s.

CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD: We are in need of Team Members for Children’s Liturgy to cover the 5th Sunday and be available to Sub. Children’s Liturgy is held on Sunday mornings at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. The ideal team member is someone who has an

active faith life, a love for Scripture, and a desire to share this with our children. If you are interested, contact Tiffany Doseck (974-1298/[email protected]). You can also contact Chuck Wright at the parish office 667-3419, ext. 203 or [email protected].

ST. VINCENT HOTEL: Parishioners are reminded the hotel is in constant need of casseroles to serve the homeless guests. Completed casseroles can be placed in the Parish freezer and will be periodically delivered to the hotel by Parish volunteers. For further information, contact Mike Begley (667-2882) or the Parish Office at 667-3419. The next opportunity to serve the evening meal to the guests at St. Vincent Hotel will be Sunday, March 22. Please meet in the north parking lot of the church for a 5:00 p.m. departure if you would like to volunteer.

Thank YouThank you for promoting the Retirement Fund for Religious appeal. The people of the Archdiocese continue to respond generously to this collection. St. John the Baptist contributed $5,082.82 and they greatly appreciate it.
