Latest News Moving on It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I share news that my family and I are moving to Melbourne. I have been involved with The Gap/Bardon Group of the Australian Breastfeeding Association for nearly seven years now, since attending a Breastfeeding Education Class before the birth of my first son. I have made many friends and learnt about parenting from the mums who have led and attended our group over these years. As a volunteer Breastfeeding Counsellor I have been in awe of the tenacity shown by mums when they encounter obstacles to breastfeeding, and feel privileged that they have shared their stories with me. While I don’t know many people in Melbourne, I know that I can still connect with mums through the ABA village anywhere in Australia. I hope that The Gap/Bardon Group will continue to welcome mums and support them in the rollercoaster ride that is motherhood, for many years to come. Membership Membership fees support the provision of breastfeeding information and support by our largely volunteer-run organisation. Please support the ABA by becoming a member, renewing your membership, and sharing your positive experience of ABA with family and friends. About our meetings The Gap-Bardon Group usually meets on the first and third Mondays of the month. A trained breastfeeding counsellor is usually available at discussion meetings to answer your breastfeeding questions. Don’t worry if you are late − even experienced mums have mornings where it is difficult to get out of the house! The topics take the form of a relaxed group discussion facilitated by a discussion leader, followed by morning tea, chat and playtime. Please bring a plate to share for morning tea if you are able (but we all know that sometimes we run out of hands, especially with a newborn!). We always love to see you at meetings, but if you or your children are showing signs of illness including vomiting, diarrhoea or fever, please be considerate of other families and stay at home. Our group observes the Code of Ethics of the Australian Breastfeeding Association. All are welcome to our meetings, whether breastfeeding or not. Older children, support people and partners are also welcome. We encourage everyone to share their experiences and words of wisdom, as we can all benefit from new ideas and support. You are welcome to attend two meetings as a visitor. After that we ask you to join the Australian Breastfeeding Association, which has many benefits including: a free book Breastfeeding…Naturally, Essence magazine, My Savings program and e-mail counselling.
