School ValuesOur school values are an integral part of who we are as a people and as a community. They are the things that we believe are important. As a school, we aim to nurture these values in our students by providing a comprehensive education with diverse opportunities to develop skills to achieve their personal best.

As part of their project the Year 10 Work Ready program students designed and created a wall of our School values in their classroom as a constant reminder of their importance. Great work Year 10’s.

Reminders re Expectations of Wearing Full School UniformA friendly reminder that the students are expected to be wearing full winter uniform during Term 3. This includes the wear-ing of the tie. If any student and/or family is experiencing difficulty in adhering to this policy, due to financial circumstances, we suggest that the Parent and/or Guardian rings the College on 9546 9066, to make an appointment to speak to our Student Welfare Coordinator, Ms Lynda Chapman.

Update re Facilities We are very pleased that our C East building refurbishment has been completed and classes and the new Library space will be operational from Term 3 onwards. The construction of a new on site car park has almost been completed. The site will include new landscaping, which will enhance the physical surroundings for both students and staff. It is expected that this will be completed by mid-Term 3 of this year.

BioEYES Program

The year 10 students recently took part in the BioEYES Program as part of their science studies. BioEYES Australia is an award-winning, innovative, hands-on approach to teaching students about science. Over the course of a week, students nurture the development of zebrafish embryos, observing the transparent eggs (Danio rerio) change from a single-celled zygote to a free swimming larvae. Students develop their critical thinking skills and perform collaborative experiments as they study the life span and development of the zebrafish, anatomy and genetics.

About 30 students and some staff from the school with widely ranging experience levels participated and had fun! Age was no barrier – with even some of the youngest players squaring off with some of our senior school students.

We hope to have another inter school event towards the end of Term 3.

Chess club meets at lunch on Tuesday’s in C8. New players are always welcome, drop in and have a game!

A busy end to Term 2 with 5 days of Sport in 10 School days.

Intermediate SportThe College was represented by a Boys Soccer, Boys and Girls Badminton and Girls Netball Teams over two days. All teams were competitive with equal wins and losses, and the best result being the Girls Badminton team coming 3rd on the day. Thanks to Mr Green, Mr Malcolm and Mr Keane for their assistance with the teams.

Year 8 SportThe College was represented by a Boys Soccer and Girls Badminton Team. The girls team was very competitive but beaten by some very good girls teams. The boys were outstanding in the wet and windy conditions, winning every game and playing off against Dandenong in the Final. Unfortunately they lost a close 1-0 final to be runners up on the day. A great team effort and after being trounced by Dandenong in the final last year at Year 7 Sport, the boys have come a long way. Maybe next year? Thanks to Ms Fitzgerald for her assistance.

Year 7 SportThe College was represented by a Boys Soccer, Boys and Girls Badminton and Girls Netball Team. Almost every Year 7 student out on sport for the day was a great achievement. Everyone had a fun day even if the results were not what they hoped for. The boys soccer played in heavy rain for the last 45 minutes of their matches and rarely complained. Thanks to Onur, Harsh, Zaher, Cara, Helen, Tevin, Gayler and Deashan for their coaching of the teams, and Ms Vuong and Ms Menezes for their assistance on the day.

Region Cross CountryWhat was the best day of the year for sport given the perfect weather, the small team made their way to Cruden Farm in Langwarrin for the final step before State Finals. The track was a lot harder than we and many others had anticipated and really took the wind out of most runners in the first half. Unfortunately we had no runners progress and no real results to give due to technical glitches with the timing system.

Last Friday the Pathways group walked down to the Noble Park CFA and learnt many new things about what they do, how they operate, what they wear and use, what the three different trucks are for, some fire extinguisher games, and how much water comes out of a truck in different ways. We also had a mock emergency where we had to evacuate the building to watch them put out a pretend fire on a car in the rear car park.

We hope to have the CFA come to the College to do a few presentations of their training and skills with a couple of real drills (any takers for a free car wash???). A few snaps below of the fun they had.
