Pipeline Technology Conference 2013
From 18-20 March 2013 the Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) will take place for the 8th time
Since 2006, the main focus of the Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) is on latest technologies and new developments in the international pipeline industry. Besides an overview on international key projects, new construction methods and an insight into new operation & maintenance, rehabilitation, in-line inspection and integrity management field studies and technologies, ptc 2013 will provide special focus sessions on “Materials – Steel Line Pipe”, “Stations and Components” and “Public Perception”.
KROHNE Academy seminars
The KROHNE Academy is not a product promoting seminar series, but instead it aims to bring industry experts together under one roof to provide an insight into the various technologies, industrial standards and procedures that plant operators can find themselves faced with. It will address key operating issues from plant safety to ways of increasing plant efficiency and controlling costs.
Workshop – (Custody Transfer) Metering Systems
This workshop is aimed at engineers responsible for metering in pipelines. The intention is to show how new technologies have evolved to overcome problems previously encountered in metering. Planning, operation and maintenance for gas, liquid and LNG applications will be discussed between the referees and the attendees.
Agenda
13:30 h Welcome
13:30–14:30 h
KROHNE
Basics of (Custody Transfer) Metering Systems
The first part of the workshop describes the fundamentals of (Custody Transfer) Metering Systems. Overview of metering stations and skids: available technologies, components of such systems, technical possibilities and limitations. Flow measurement principles with their respective advantages and drawbacks and the different possibilities of provers for the in-situ calibration of flowmeters will be presented. Practical examples and references of metering skids are given.
14:30–14:50 h Break
14:50–16:30 h
KROHNE
Practical training
In the second part details of new builds or revamps from the attendees of the workshop will be used to design respective metering systems. The possibilities will be discussed, including aspects such as costing, manpower, maintenance and availability as well as incorporation into supervisory systems. Up to three different examples can be covered, with each being discussed in detail. The intention of this workshop is also the information and experience exchange of the attendees.
16:30 h End of training / Discussion
Workshop – Pipeline Leak Detection
This workshop is aimed at all operators as well asmanufacturers of Oil, Gas, Chemical and refined productpipelines. The intention is not only to share the basicfundamentals of leak detection, but also for the informationto be exchanged between the attendees. Real life pipeline examples from the attendees will be used to design possibleleak detection systems directly in the workshop.

Basics of pipeline leak detection
The first part of the workshop describes the basic fundamentals of pipeline leak detection systems. Overview of leak detection systems: models, comparison, technical possibilities and limitations, how to reduce false alarms to practically zero. Description of typical LDS System and SCADA architectures. International rules and standards are also part of this presentation, many practical examples and references are given.

Practical training
In the second part pipeline details from attendees of the workshop will be used to design respective leak detection systems. Technical limits and possibilities, e.g. realistic response times as well as detection accuracy, will be calculated during the workshop. Up to three different pipeline examples can be covered, with each being discussed in detail. The intention of this workshop is also the information and experience exchange of the attendees.
16:30–17:00 h
KROHNE
Functional Safety (SIL) for pipelinesThis presentation will explain the basics of IEC 61508 and what certification in SIL for pipeline leak detection requires. The main part covers the complete lifecycle concept acc. to IEC 61511 for pipelines. It will be shown how pipeline operators can take advantage of the standard.
17:00 h End of training / Discussion
