Community Little Red School House Gets a Spruce Up from Students

High School Architectural Drawing Teacher Buddy Bell and his students deserve a great big THANK YOU! The students moved over 2000 bricks by hand and over 60 plants from the high school courtyard to the Little Red Schoolhouse/Maple Heights Historical Society, (located at Dunham and Rockside Roads). This service learning project started in the class-room with students being taught about land-scape design, removal, planning and planting. The class then spent the next six days in the field. Students also laid down weed blocker and distributed mulch. Since the School House has no water, students hand-carried nearly 125 gallons of water from trucks to the newly planted landscape. Mr. Bell said, “What a great opportunity for our students to learn and give back to their community, memories that will last a lifetime”.

Additional thanks goes to our district’s buildings & grounds department and to board

member Dale Walter for providing assis- tance to make the landscape around our original school look so great!
