St. Xavier’s College was founded in 1869 by the Soci-
ety of Jesus, a Christian Religious Organisation
started by St. Ignatius of Loyola. It is an educational
institution which strives to promote an intellectual
endeavour that focuses on critical and creative
thinking, with the aim of social transformation. Its
mission includes dedication to research, teaching
and the various forms of cultural service.
In 2010, St. Xavier’s became the first autonomous
College under the University of Mumbai. In 2012,
the college has received a grant from Department
of Biotechnology, Government of India, under the
Star College Scheme. The College is also funded by
DST under the FIST Program. In April’2014 the
college was awarded the “College of Excellence”
award by the U.G.C.
The College campus is located in the Fort locality of
South Mumbai. .
ABOUT THE EVENT
The hallmark of a good government is that it deliv-ers on its priorities, through policy framework that guides the trajectory and pace of the outcomes and the institutions that form the policy content. In India, both these aspects are in place but the out-comes of most of the policies are far from satisfac-tory. In this national level conference these policy making lacunae have to be uncovered.
The conference aims to provide a forum for acade-
mia, students, and professionals to share, discuss
and interact on the efficacy of Indian Economic Poli-
cies.
