YOU FEEL WHAT YOU EAT
Though many people believe some plants can help with depression, it may not be necessary to make a special trip to the herbalist to find them. Recent studies have shown that increasing the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables in one’s diet can decrease the symptoms of depression. Inflammation in the body puts people at risk for depression, and this inflammation can be caused by both an excess of highly processed foods (boxed and frozen meals, packaged snacks) and an insufficiency of the nutrients found in fresh fruits and vegetables. There is also evidence in animal studies showing that gut microbiome can affect brain function, adding merit to the idea that diet and mental health are connected.
Depression affects many people, and it can be life changing. Medical treatment and counseling can often help relieve symptoms, but lifestyle remedies, such as a healthful diet, can also boost a person’s well-being. The professionals at Plains Area Mental Health are here and can help to manage and treat depression.
Call our office today at 712-364-3500 or 800-325-1192. Our address is 700 East 2nd St., Ida Grove. We help people cope with everyday living.
P.S. Because of their focus on fresh vegetables, fish, and whole grains, “Mediterranean” diets are frequently recommended to fight depression.
Thank Youto the people of Ida County District II for your support and especially your vote in the June 2nd primary election. A special thank you to my
family for their support and encouragement. Also special thank you’s to friends and neighbors and all who let me use their property for signs.
It is an honor to represent the good people of Ida County.
