The coast of province of Latina extends for

hundred kilometers from the Astura river on the

west side, to the Garigliano river on the est side,

which marks the border between lazio and

Campania and separates the province of latina

from the Caserta one. In the hundred kilometers

of coast there is a wonderfull combination

berween beaches and rocky promontories, which

creates a great variety of enviroments. The most

important coast centers are: Sabaudia, San Felice

Circeo,Terracina, Fondi, Sperlonga; Gaeta, Formia

e Minturno-Scauri, also to the Pontine

islands.The maritime area is the most important

tourist attraction of the province, because there

are the most important seaside resort of the

region and center of italy. The small but

beautifull archipelago of the Pontine islands is

located in the center of the Tyrrhenian Sea, is

formed from two groups of islands: North-West

Ponza, Palmarola, Zannone, Gavi (the last two are

uninhabited), South-East Ventotene e St. Stefano,

all of them are of volcanic origin. This origin

makes the landscape rich of extraordinary colors,

deep and trasparent water.

Holiday destination since ancient times the

province of Latina enrich the italian tourist scene

with unique landscape in the word as the gardens

and the ruins of Ninfa, the split mountain of

Gaeta, numerous imperial villas in addition to a

very specific collection such as the “PIANA DELLE

ORME” and the famous “ODISSEA DI PIETRA OF

SPERLONGA” authentic jewel of the Mediterrane-

an. In the twentieth century Latina became the

first and most important out post for the

construction of the monastery , one of the best

example is the abbey of Fossanova, a splendid

example of Gothic-Cisterne architecture. It

becames so important to create around it a real

village. It was in Fossanova that St. Tommaso

D’aquino, during is trip to Lyon taken ill he died

on 7th march 1274. Another place of religious

importance is the sanctuary of St. Maria Sorresca

situated along the riverside lake of Paola which

owes its devotion to a miracle seen by medieva

fishermen. The last sanctuary built in the provin-

ce of Latina is the side of the martyrdom of St.

Maria Goretti near Ferriere (Now Borgo Montel-

lo). The young girl died in 1902 and was declared

saint in april 27th 1947.

The birdtwatching is a practice which consist in

the observation and study of bird life in the re-

spect of nature. Who practice birdtwatching is

called birdtwatcher or birder. Birdwatching is an

activity that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

We need a pair of binoculars and a guide of reco-

gnition. It is e phenomenon that allow you to ob-

serve the most unusual species during the migra-

tion. Many birds moving to reproduce , to loo-

king for food and escape from proibitive climatic

conditions. You can see, in addition to the birds

that do not migrate, the species that are migra-

ting and which are in the area only for a short

period. The province of Latina and the Circeo Na-

tional park with the islands of the archipelago

are located on the routes of many species of mi-

gratory birds. The obrservation in this area is e-

specially fruitful during the winter season. Gene-

rally birdtwachers love the natural enviroment,

but also in cities is possible to observe many spe-

cies of birds. With the province of Latina , Circeo

National Park and the surrounding nature reser-

ves, such as the area Pantanello at the gardens

and the ruins of Ninfa are destinations of birtwa-

tcher come from all over the world to have have

the opportunity to see some rare species. A we-

ek to discover a spectacular and

uncontaminated nature immersed in the history

and myth, can be an excellent opportunity to le-

arn about and enjoy the beauty that gives us the

A dip in a distant time, which comes to

us through structures very well preserved like

abbeys , walls and ancient ruins. Landascape of

the most classic of the world, named by Virgilio

witness of the presence of Rome, Latin and

Volsci.

A historical , archeological and cultural

heritage need to be discovered, which includes

places formerly enclosed by Cyclopean walls.

The first locality we will have a look is Cori,

founded by Cora Troiano, one of the last city

where we can still find the ancient walls very

well preserved.

Most southern stands the city of an-

cient Norba, which dominates the Oasis of Nin-

fa and the vastness od Pontina lawland. We

continue to Sezze which has always played a

strategic role by checking the old road Pede-

montana and Appia.

Along the route of the ancient Via Seti-

na we can still find a significant number of inte-

resting artifacts that testify the defensive natu-

re of the city. Moving down to the coast we

arrive at Circeo National Park, called the Ol-

ympus of Italy.

From the promontory we can see Terra-

cina, that some one wanted home of Lestrigo-

ni, with its high monolith and the temple of

Giove Anxur which overlooking the city by the

sea.

From here we can go to Fondi, in the

highest part of the lowland where was the

mythical Amyclae, mysterius city that the poet

Virgilio located precisely here, but we do not

have any trace.

Moving on to the promontory of Gaeta,

chosen destination since Roman times, we arri-

ve in Formia, which became the reference

point of the culinary arts of the time for its mild

climate fertile ground as testified by the many

artifact found there and keep in the National

Archeological Musem.

After passing the centere of Fondi and Formia,

we reach the border between Latium Vetus et

Adiectum and the legendary Campania felix

which we can find the archeological area of

Minturno.

Nearby you can admire the remarkable walls

attributed to Pirae , thus concluding the jour-

ney among these places thousand years old.
