Winter 2019
Happy 2019! With a new year beginning, it seems like a good time to set goals and do some introspective thinking that might impact our lives in 2019 and in years to come. I continue my pre-set goals to get my credit card (I’m down to one!) paid off and pay off my car loan. And then there’s the weight thing that never goes away.
I asked the Lord to give me scriptures this year to encourage and challenge me in my daily walk with Him. THE verse that He seemed to give me is Psalm 37:4 “Delight thyself also in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart”. Then I asked God to give me a word which seemed to be “desire” so I’m using a concordance to study scriptures with that word included. No, I’m not trying to get all that my heart desires. I want what He desires.
In my planning, I’ve also thought about finances and designated Women’s Care Center as one of my beneficiaries. Just three days ago, a donor asked me if we have an endowment which is a donation of money or property to a nonprofit or-ganization which uses the resulting in-vestment income. We don’t have an en-dowment, but that’s not a bad idea. We
have tried somewhat to encourage do-nors with planned giving and I am aware of two individuals who shared with me their intent.
You may ask, “What is planned giving?” Planned giving is an area of fundrais-ing that refers to several specific gift types that can be funded with cash, equi-ty, or property. Usually, a person decides to give at some future date, either a number of years from now or at death. All this can be simple or complicated. Usually there are tax incentives to consid-er. This is why we have an attorney who is willing to help you establish a planned giving plan designated to benefit Wom-en’s Care Center.
The same individual who asked me about the endowment mentioned that he wants to invest in the sustainability of our organization. For charitable non-profits, the phrase “sustainability” is commonly used to describe a nonprofit that is able to sustain itself over the long term, perpetuating its ability to fulfill its mission.
One of my desires is for Women’s Care Center to be an impacting force in our community under the direction of the Holy Spirit for years until Jesus returns. I hope that is your desire as well. If it is and you have the capability (I realize not everyone does), would you consider a planned gift to Women’s Care Center? For the little ones?
Gratefully yours,
Thoughts from the Director
Leaving a Legacy of LIFE
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, this world is not your home. We do, how-ever, have to make worldly preparation for our estate. Whether we have little or much, the wise thing to do is prepare by creating a will or estate plan. Plan-ning your estate can be a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon God’s bless-ings in your life…. your family, the possessions that God has allowed you to manage, and your faith. By choosing to make a planned gift, you extend your loyal support of Women’s Care Center beyond your lifetime. Whether you are planning a simple will, a trust, or a more in-depth endowment, we want you to know we would use these funds to continue the legacy of LIFE established here since 1991. If you are interested in talking with us about such a gift, please contact our Executive Director, Janet Kimes.
Sexual Risk Avoidance Reaching Students
Having an impact one student at a time is Shelli Brown’s passion. God has given her a heart for and a gift to teach our local youth through the Women’s Care Center Sexual Risk Avoidance content. She joined us in August and has been teaching 6th through 10th grade this important information. The following comments are from recent student evaluations in the 10th grade.
• “This was good for people to hear about abuse in relation-ships. I've seen a lot of it in this school.”
• “I learned a lot about this course and my own responsibil-ity and how dangerous STDs are. Also how simple actions can lead to life long consequences.”
• “It was very fun and interactive. I enjoyed learning about bene-fits and risks of being sexually active and about abstinence. I plan to abstain until marriage. I want to be with someone who will be loyal (no STDs) and who loves and cares about me.”
Every now and then, someone will share with us how thankful they are for the min-istry at WCC and the reason why. The fol-lowing are communications we have re-ceived directly from those benefiting from
our center. We share these with you so you can enjoy the impact your support has had on so many lives like these.
Impacting Lives for Eternity
Janet,
Julie lived with my husband and me during most of her pregnancy. Wom-
en’s Care Center was a blessing to her. Julie learned about Jesus Christ
through this ministry as well as received clothing during her pregnancy
and clothing for her son. She has since married and moved out of state. We
still keep in touch and she is so happy to be a “mom”. Her son is growing so
fast and each stage of his life brings new excitement for Julie. Thank you for
all that you do for women in our community.
God bless you,
A grateful supporter of WCC
Hello! My name is Cassie. I first learned that I was pregnant in high school and very heavily considered abortion. I made an appointment at this center and I am so thank-ful every day that I talked to such an amazing woman who made me feel that I was capable of being a mother when everyone else did not. Anyways, my son is now 16 months old and I love being a mom. I wanted to say thank you to everyone that works in your center.
God has called us to be available to wom-en and teens when they experience an unexpected pregnancy. The emotions which effect her decision making process can be numerous: feeling scared and anx-ious, a sense of “why I wasn’t more care-ful,” “how did that happen”, the feeling of being alone and isolated, feelings of confu-sion and guilt, and a sense of panic and lack of control, along with sheer panic and surprise.
Pregnancy is a traumatic life change that produces a lot of stress. It is much easier to go through all these emotions and to deal with the stress if you have a guide.
“How do I break the news?”, “Whom shall I tell?”, Whom shall I tell first?” These are just a few of the questions that go along with the biggest question which is “What am I going to do?”
We want to be accessible with all the re-sources we have for every woman and teen who finds themselves in an un-planned pregnancy. God is bringing more and more abortion minded women to our door. Please pray for us and continue to support us so we can be a place of sweet aroma for Jesus Christ!
Jennifer Morris (shown above on left) has been volunteering at Women’s Care Center since 2010. She discussed her journey to Women’s Care Center with us recently. “ The Lord burdened my heart for the ministry for many years before my life situation would allow me to serve. I was introduced to the Women’s Care Center through my church. My husband and I were going through classes for the foster to adopt program so learning what the Wom-en’s Care Center did in our community struck a cord with us.
I was so drawn to the center because my heart wanted every women in an unplanned pregnancy to choose adop-tion. My husband became terminally ill so we never went through with an adoption. I had a very good job and continued to work after my husband passed away. God still tugged at me and I never forgot about my desire to work at the center one day.
Several years later, I met my new hus-band at church and as life allowed me to retire I was finally able to volunteer here. It has been a great journey alt-hough not at all what I envisioned. I always thought God would use me so young women would see adoption as a wonderful option for unplanned pregnancy. Instead, God gave me a ministry at Women’s Care Center for which I felt completely inadequate. I am a mentor to expectant and new moms through Shepherd’s Fold. I would ask Him, ‘How Lord can I be effective at this area of ministry if I have never had children of my own?’ I don’t know how but he has grown this love for these young mothers and I have such empathy for their busy complicated lives. God has broadened my world and opened my eyes through my work at WCC.
Our mothers are so grateful for WCC and their help. They are so caring and concerned for their children and they just need affirmation. They need someone to emphasize with them and remind them of their strength. They love it when I make a fuss over their babies because they just beam with pride.
If someone reading this is thinking of volunteering, I want them to know if God has put it in their hearts, He will make a way in His time. God has used my service at WCC to help me grow closer to Him. Sometimes the least likely place you think you should be is exactly where God wants you.”

Kailee Perrin Profile
What do you do when at 18 you find yourself addicted to drugs and alcohol, and find out you’re pregnant? This is the position in which Kailee Perrin found her-
self. Kailee’s boyfriend was a drug dealer and decided to pay for an abortion, so that they could both go on with their lives.
Through an unlike-ly series of events Kailee found herself in a preg-nancy center. Thinking that they offered abor-tions she walked in, and instead found the ac-ceptance, hope, and love that she so desper-ately needed. She decid-ed to keep the baby and go into rehabilita-tion. After entering rehab, she began a rela-tionship with Jesus. Not long after that she found out that the fa-ther of her baby had
turned his life around and wanted to be the father he never had. Today they are married, both followers of Jesus, and have had two more children.
Kailee’s story is a pow-erful reminder that no one is too far removed from God, and that hope shines the bright-est in the darkest plac-es. Her story has in-spired many, as she con-tinues to be a voice for the unborn, and the mothers that carry them.

Below are some of the basic factors that can help determine the “at risk” level for abortion. This does not represent a complete list. Our medical personnel work to understand each patient’s unique situation and provide help and resources.
Abortion Minded Profile
We don’t receive a lot of Christmas cards from patients but each one comes with its own story. This mother thought she had no other choice but abortion when we saw her earlier this year. When we opened this card, we knew these words were penned by a mother who was pondering in her heart the value of life this special time of year.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is January
20th, 2019. We kickoff our baby bottle
boomerang fundraiser that Sunday in
many local churches. It is the easiest way
for congregations to support the center’s
work. We supply the bottles and promo-
tional materials. The members of the
church collect money in their bottles for
approximately 4 weeks and then return
them to the church filled.
You may be surprised to learn this simple
act of filling a bottle joined with hundreds
of others provided over $66,000 in 2018.
Materials are available now. If your
church would like to do the baby bottle
collection at a different timeframe, just let
us know. Call the center at 304-485-7122
for more information.
Vacation Bible School Idea
As you plan your vacation bible school program for 2019, consider including Women’s Care Center as your mission project. We can supply ideas and materi-als for your kids to get involved. We could also introduce them to age appropriate teaching on the value of life. Let us know if you want to discuss an idea.
Many employers match employee
donations given to non profits.
Matching programs or direct pay-
roll deduction programs are availa-
ble from local and national em-
ployers. We receive several gifts
from these types of programs eve-
ry year. Won’t you ask your em-
ployer today if your gift to WCC
might be doubled?
Jing is show-ing off her special Christmas gift from WCC. Thanks to the Bernard McDonough Foundation each Shep-herd’s Fold mother has received a
special but practical gift this season. We gave each mother a pair of socks, lip balm, a gas card, and a book about the true meaning of Christmas. Jing is shop-ping for her daughter Evee. She was beaming with joy as she explained the significance of giving her daughter both a traditional Chinese name and an Amer-ican name. We are grateful that with your help we can help young parents like Jing and her husband provide for their children through Shepherd’s Fold. One of our patients came to her January appointment and told our Shepherd’s Fold volunteer about receiving her gift bag at the previous month’s visit. She said the day of her appointment her family was almost out of gas but she insisted she needed to come to Shep-herd’s Fold. She said she didn’t look in the bag until she got home and found the gas card. She told our volunteer that she just cried. She expressed her grati-tude to us. Many of these women tell us that having someone who cares and believes in them makes the difference in their lives as mothers.
Baby Atlas, only 3 weeks old, came shop-ping at Shepherd’s Fold for the first time. His Mom, Cas-sandra says he is a very good baby.
