Car parks with free spaces aredisplayed immediately in most cities and at major airports withoutyou having to spend a long time looking (wherever parking availabilityis monitored). The navigation system directs the driver straight to thenearest one with spaces.

E-mails and personal data can also be easily accessed while you areon the road. Because BMW Online gives you an e-mail account andpersonal address book in one. Address entries can be transferred toyour car from a PC via the BMW Online portal and directly adoptedas your destination by the navigation system. E-mails can be calledup directly in the car.

Details of the weather, including a forecast, are available for anyspecific location. The weather can also be displayed in 3D.BMW Online can even send you share price information to your car.Also on board: personal “watch list” and “stock informer” forsearching specifically for individual shares. Current company newsand graphic market summaries provide you with the big picture. dpabrings you the latest news.

BMW Online knows not only the locations of over 65,000 cashpoints, but also a wide range of Yellow Pages information. Privatephone numbers and company addresses all over Germany are alsoavailable. The data is transferred directly to the navigation system orcar phone at the touch of a button. You are then swiftly directed toyour new destination.

is then simply sent to the navigation system at the touch of a button.A direct telephone connection can also be established at once. Therecommendations are based on the Michelin Guide, among othersources.

The Green Guide from ViaMichelin ensures that theinformation provided is up to date and of the highest possible quality.

Independently of your car and PC, you canaccess a selection of BMW Online services fromyour mobile phone. Traffic information, CityGuide,3D weather and travel planner turn your mobilephone into a tour manager, giving you evenmore independence.

Your car’s current position can be sent as anaddress by text message to any mobile phone.In addition, a section of a road map can be trans-mitted directly from the car to help you find yourbearings. The current position of your car andyour destination are marked on the map so thatyou can walk straight from where you park to yourfinal destination without losing any time. How does the Tracking module work?

Car theft can never be completely ruled out.BMW Tracking can’t actually prevent a theft,but it can dramatically limit the disagreeableconsequences. BMW Tracking ensures thatyour car can be quickly foundi n the event of it being stolen.

What happens if someone drives off in my BMW?

There is always the risk that your car will appeal to other peopleas much as it does to you, particularly when it is a BMW. If theworst does happen, a tracking module integrated in the vehiclesignals the current position of your car. At present, BMW Trackingis only available in Italy. Insurance companies there award highpremium discounts for BMW vehicles fitted with BMW Tracking.This way, investing in BMW Tracking pays for itself. In the USA,the tracking function is an integral part of BMW Assist.

The so-called tracking module is installed in a concealed locationin the car. If the car is stolen and the alarm system is set off, thetracking module transmits an intermittent signal which identifiesthe car’s coordinates. It is possible on the basis of this signal toidentify the current position of the car, thereby making it easier tofind.

The BMW therefore identifies itself as stolen – whenever its ownalarm system is set off. Alternatively, the appropriate alarm can betriggered by the owner. The overriding principle is that the car’sposition can only be identified if the owner gives his consent.

Currently only available in Italy and the USA (as BMW Assist with tracking function). Introduction in othercountries is planned.

With BMW Online, all thiswill soon be possible. In future, you will be ableto compile a personal i tinerary just as you like andinclude additional destinations. While doing so,you will also i nclude the weather report and roadnews. Then download the route from the computerto your car. Useful or interesting information onroute highlights will be provided in picture andsound.

In future, BMW vehicles will even be able to communicate witheach other. Data from the vehicle provides the basis for thistechnology. This data includes information collected, for example,by the rain sensor, air-conditioning system, ABS and outsidethermometer, and gives an indication of road surface conditions orthe current weather situation. All of the details are relayed directlyto the nearest vehicle and the driver can react accordingly. Anexample: a sensor registers increased windscreen wiper activityand reduced speed. From this information it is possible to deducean increased danger of slippery roads in that specific area. This“slippery road warning” can, in turn, be made available to othervehicles which can then adapt their speed accordingly.

As BMW TeleServices develop in future, diagnosing your

vehicle before a scheduled service visit will be even easier.BMW Telediagnostics will provide the BMW service adviserwith an “electronic sensor X-ray image over the air”, permittingoptimum preparation for a service appointment. Even in theevent of an unforeseen service requirement, BMW Telediagnosticswill make it possible to diagnose and, in some cases, even rectifya fault on the spot. If you are unable to continue your journey, youwill receive rapid on-the-scene assistance from a mobile BMWService Technician.
