It's Full Steam Ahead at BC Forest Discovery Ctr ‐ Restoration of #1 Shay EngineThe highlight for visitors at the BC Forest Discovery Centre is sharing a ride on a historic steam train. Visitors to theBC Forest Discovery Centre have had the opportunity to experience climbing aboard the full size 106 year old steamlocomotive Samson who is now gracefully aging and in need of extra care and attention.  To ensure the Centre cancontinue offering authentic train rides, they are undertaking a complete refit of the Hillcrest Lumber Company No. 1,a 28 ton class 'B' Shay steam locomotive! The Centre is reaching out to the business world and the community to partner with them to ensure the steamlocomotives will last into the future by requesting funds to refurbish one of the most iconic steam engines everproduced and has spent its entire life in the Cowichan Valley. The historic #1 Shay locomotive was instrumental in thebuilding of the logging industry on Vancouver Island and pulls a full load of history.
