Vocational View Saints Peter and Paul Apostles – June 21, 2020

Even though it takes trust, generosity and courage to accept God’s call to a Church vocation, Jesus nevertheless assures us that He is “gentle and humble of heart”. If you hear Jesus’ invitation, “Come to Me!” call Fr. Andrew Merrick at (225) 336-8778, [email protected].

Spiritual Adoption

As we reflect on father’s day, we ask you to keep praying for the unborn.

Hi! I’m three months old now. I’m about three inches long and I weigh one ounce. That’s not much, but

I’m fully formed and can even suck my thumb! Keep praying for me.

We are back to holding Adoration on Friday mornings. It is in the main part of the church rather than the daily Mass chapel. For now, the hours will be from 8 AM to noon each Friday. There will be no Rosary or Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at the end. Please feel free to drop in any time on Friday mornings, or call Linda Polk if you would like to volunteer for a specific hour.

God’s Children Children are the living hope of the future. That is why “a man leaves his father and mother and joins himself to his wife, and they become one body” (Genesis 2:24). Facing the future together as a family is becoming harder in our time. How can we approach God’s life if we do not experience the difference between childish and childlike? To be childlike is to gain access to holiness. Jesus showed us how to be God’s children. Happy are we!

Thank You

St. Isidore would like to thank Buddy Doming for his many years of service to our St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. He began as a volunteer in June 2005, which led to him serve as the pantry’s record keeper and vice president.

Buddy was a joy to work with and always put our pantry members first. He was someone you could always depend on. Hard-working and happy, never had a bad day. Ronnie Canady, a volunteer with the food pantry, had these heartfelt words to say about Buddy, “Buddy is an all-around nice guy. He is happy and always has a smile on his face. He is a great man, who offered a lot of good advice.”

We will greatly miss Buddy at the pantry but we are thankful for the many years he spent helping our community. If you see Buddy, be sure to thank him for his service!

The Paradox of Faith “Fear no one,” Jesus says. He is talking about fearing those who persecute you for your faith. In the verses before this Gospel passage, he tries to prepare us for that persecution and says that since it was done to him (Jesus), it would be done to his followers.

But what happened to Jesus? He was crucified, but rose from the dead. So he triumphed over his persecutors; they could not stop him. And that is what he promises us. Whatever persecution, ridicule, or discrimination we suffer for our faith, we cannot be destroyed as long as we keep that faith.

Now the best way to keep that faith is to give it away. That sounds like a paradox, but it means that when we spread the faith, our faith grows, too. Sure, it takes courage to talk about our faith to another, but when we share our stories about what God means to us, we relive those experiences; we remind ourselves what God has done for us. And when we allow others to share their faith with us, we are encouraged and supported. That is why Jesus says that what is hidden will be made known: True faith never stays hidden; it needs to be shared. Sometimes we may hesitate to talk about our faith. If we let ourselves be tempted to silence, we are letting the devil have his way. That is the only thing to fear: not Satan’s power, but our weakness. That’s why Jesus said whoever denies him will be denied by him. Yet Jesus died for our sins, so even they cannot destroy us if we turn back to the Lord. Just as God knows every sparrow that falls, so he knows us when we fall and values us more than sparrows.

So thank him for his forgiveness, but don’t forget to spread the news that you are forgiven. You might give someone else the courage to come back to the Lord, and so score another victory for faith over fear. Tom Schmidt, © J. S. Paluch Co.

Blessed Are Our Fathers

All men are called to the vocation of spiritual fatherhood; some are also called to live this out as fathers of biological, adopted, or foster children. The societal observance of Father’s Day, in addition to the traditional observance of the holiday, is also an opportunity to highlight the spiritual fatherhood of godparents, priests, deacons, uncles, and other men who often serve as fathers in important ways within extended family, parish communities, or individuals’ lives. © https://www.respectlife.org/fathers-day
