Safer LondonWe are Safer London, the leading London charity working to prevent and address gang violence, vulnerability and exploitation among young people. We were born in 2005, set up with a grant from the Metropolitan Police Authority to support young people at risk of crime.

HRH The Prince of Wales is Patron of Safer London, and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick serves as President.

To date, we have helped 48,000 young people escape violence, exploitation and crime and turn their lives around.

We believe every young person should be able to live free from exposure to gangs, exploitation and crime and we put this into action by reaching out to London’s most vulnerable and exploited young people to prevent them from slipping through the net. Through our programmes, we:

• can assign a young person a skilled independent advocate who will help them navigate through services and get access to the legal and professional help they are entitled to;

• deliver 1:1 and group sessions with young people on safety, consent and self-worth, and equip them with the tools to make a safe transition into adulthood avoiding harm;

• work with schools to improve safeguarding and prevent violence in both the school and wider community;

• support young people who want to leave or escape from gangs;• empower parents and carers to nurture young people in these ever-changing

technological times and strengthen family connections;• provide trained mentors who open and expand young people’s horizons and

ambitions;• help social housing tenants escaping domestic violence relocate and maintain

their tenancy;• train professionals (including the police), keeping them abreast of new and

emerging threats.

We are continually evolving and innovating – we have to in an ever-changing youth landscape, with our focus on making London safer for young people.

Our values

We are: Changemakers – We bring creativity, passion and innovation to make a lasting

difference. Inclusive – All that we do recognises and values the diverse experiences of young

people. Trusted – People trust us because we have a track record of consistent, high quality

delivery. Courageous – We are brave, unafraid to challenge, and committed to empowering

young people to stay safe and happy. Collaborative – We stand with individuals and organisations who share our vision.

Criminal Convictions FormSafer London is committed to employing a diverse workforce and ensuring equal opportunities for all. Since all staff working or volunteering for Safer London may at some point come into contact with vulnerable adults and children we have a policy that everybody should be checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) – previously known as CRB. All posts, whether paid or voluntary, are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and so all criminal convictions, including those considered as spent need to be disclosed.

Please complete the form below and return it in a separate envelope marked “Confidential – CC”. Please remember to include your name on the front of the envelope.

This should be handed in if you are shortlisted for interview and marked for the attention of Angela Browne. This will only be opened if we are considering making you an offer of employment or inviting you to join our volunteer Skills Bank. All other unopened envelopes will be destroyed.

Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily exclude applicants but may need to be taken into consideration depending on the post.

If you have any questions about completing the form, please contact Angela Browne in confidence on 020 7021 0301.

REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1974The post for which you are applying carries exempt status under the provisions of the Act regarding “spent” convictions. You are therefore required to declare below any convictions (including bind-overs and cautions) you have had regardless of whether or not the time limit has elapsed.

Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence or received a caution, reprimand or warning? Yes No

Are there any alleged offences outstanding against you?

Yes No

If YES to either, please give details below. Failure to disclose any information relating to criminal convictions may disqualify your application or result in dismissal without notice.
