Awarded Life Membership of both organisations. Represented Australian Marine Pilots at IMO as a member of the Australian Government Delegation through the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) in 1996 and 2009. In 2009, at the IMO, Alex Amos was part of the Drafting Committee that formulated the revise Pilot Boarding regulations SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 23 and the IMO Resolution A.1045(27). In between these times, worked with AMSA on Pilot Ladder Safety as a member of Correspondence groups and direct representation. Currently Managing Director of Amos marine Services Pty Ltd, an Australian Marine Consultancy company which consults to various organisations in general marine matters including Pilot Transfer Safety. Besides this Roland is a Non-Executive Director at Damen Shipyards Changde in China and Damen Services Brisbane Pty Ltd, the service hub covering Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. Captain Robert Buck President, Australasian Marine Pilots Institute - Australia Robert joined the BHP Pty. Ltd. Merchant Fleet in 1974 and gained his Second Mates Certificate of competency in 1977 and Certificate of Competency as Master Unlimited in 1983. From 1977 until 1991 he served as ship’s officer in various ranks, gaining his command in late 1991 in BHP’s bulk fleet also serving on coastal LPG and RORO vessels. In 1993 he was appointed to Master in the North West Shelf Liquid Natural Gas Carrier Fleet where he remained until joining the Port Phillip Sea Pilots in 1997 as a Marine Pilot. In 2002 he was elected to the board of Port Phillip Sea Pilots Pty. Ltd. and appointed Managing Director in 2005, a position he currently holds. Robert is the President of the Australasian Marine Pilots Institute, the professional body representing pilots in Australia.

Dr Tim Chambers, Senior Lecturer - School of Psychological Sciences - Australian College of Applied Psychology, Deakin University - Australia Dr Chambers is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychological Sciences at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. His multidisciplinary research investigates cognitive and behavioural performance in stressful environments. Working with colleagues from the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research at Deakin University, they are currently investigating the psychophysical impact of stress and fatigue on maritime pilotage performance, while identifying solutions to optimise performance under these conditions. Dr Chambers has presented his research both nationally and internationally, having most recently presented at the 13th International Symposium on Maritime Health in Bergen, Norway. The work Tim is presenting has been in collaboration with Dr Luana Main, Lecturer, Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research, Deakin University

Captain David Christie, Senior Vice President Corporate Maritime Quality Assurance (CMQA) - Carnival Corporation – Platinum Sponsor - United States of America In December 2012 Captain David Christie accepted a position in Carnival Corporation as Senior Vice President Corporate Maritime Quality Assurance. In this role, he reports directly to Vice Admiral William Burke (rtd). The Chief Maritime Officer at Carnival Corporation. His responsibilities include the overall management and direction of the Corporate Training Center in Almere, Holland. Captain Christie heads up a department to consist of Corporate Executives and Fleet Captains/Chief Engineers. With this group drives the Corporate Maritime Quality Assurance function ensuring continuous improvement to the safety culture and operation of all operating lines within the Carnival Corporation fleet. Captain Christie served as Senior Vice President, Professional Marine Standards for Princess Cruises and Carnival UK, and Senior Vice President for Maritime Compliance for Princess Cruises, a position in which he held responsibility for ensuring all Princess and Carnival UK Captains and deck officers are properly trained and qualified to meet the requirements of modern cruise ship operation. He also oversaw Princess Cruises compliance with fleet regulations and maritime legislation. Among his many responsibilities is the oversight of the line’s extensive bridge simulator training program. A long-time Princess Captain, in 2002 Christie moved ashore to Princess Cruises headquarters in Santa Clarita, California to serve as vice president, marine operations, and in 2006 was promoted to senior vice president, marine operations. The next year he took on additional responsibility as senior vice president, professional marine standards Prior to coming ashore in 2002, Captain Christie commanded many of the line’s vessels on itineraries around the world. Captain Christie first took to the sea as a cadet with P&O in 1966. In 1975 he joined the original Pacific Princess as a navigator and rose through the ranks aboard. In 1992 Christie earned his Captain’s stripes and took his first command aboard Island Princess. He subsequently served as master of many of the company’s vessels. A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Christie was raised on a coffee plantation in Kenya East Africa, and subsequently studied at the Nautical College in Pangbourne, England. Captain Christie is relocating this summer to South Florida from Los Angeles.

Mr Nick Cutmore, Secretary General - International Marine Pilots’ Association – United Kingdom Nick Cutmore has been Secretary General of IMPA since July 1999 following 24 years at Trinity House, the Lighthouse and Pilotage Authority in London. During his time in Trinity House he was deeply involved in the inauguration of the IALA Buoyage System, participated in numerous A to N studies and reviews, and concluded his time there as Navigation Manager by seeing the introduction of a Differential GPS Service for the United Kingdom and Ireland. At IMPA he has overseen the adoption by IMO of Resolution A960 (Standards for Training and Certification and Operational Procedures for Maritime Pilots other than Deep-Sea Pilots), and the introduction in 2012 of improved SOLAS standards for Pilot Boarding. He has also been responsible for developing relationships with Government and Industry bodies both in London and globally.

Captain Patrik Dahlgren, Vice President of Marine Operations for Celebrity Cruises and Fleet Optimization for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. – United States of America - Platinum Sponsor Captain Patrik Dahlgren is the Vice President of Marine Operations for Celebrity Cruises and Fleet Optimization for all seven Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) brands reporting directly to the President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises in this role. In addition to Captain Patrik's role overseeing marine operations for the Celebrity cruises fleet his responsibilities as VP of Fleet Optimization span Energy, Asset and Program Management for all seven cruise brands worldwide. Throughout his seagoing career Captain Patrik sailed into many of the over 400 ports RCL vessels call. Due to his vast experience with ports the world over he is often tasked with port assessment and simulation functions worldwide in addition to his responsibilities as a Vice President of RCL. Throughout his career at RCL Captain Patrik has been instrumental in innovating bridge and ship design working closely with RCL's Newbuilding department as a Captain, Director of Development of Quantum of the Seas, and now as a Vice President. Through his relationship with RCL's Newbuilding Department Captain Patrik was a lead contributor to the Quantum of the Seas development and received RINA's (Royal Institute of Naval Architects) 2014 award for the largest contribution to maritime safety for his work developing Quantum's Safety Command Center which was a "quantum leap" forward in bridge resource management and maritime safety.

Captain Peter Dann, Deputy President, Australasian Marine Pilots Institute Had an extensive seagoing career serving from 1979 to 2002 when I became a pilot in Hay Point / Mackay. In 2007 I transferred to Dampier, WA to work for Woodside piloting and loading LNG, LPG and oil tankers. In 2012 I graduated with a Masters Degree in Human Factors and Safety Management Systems and am currently using that to try and raise Human Factor awareness amongst pilots. This human factors work has also led to a continuing interest in fatigue management and to that end I was able to write the fatigue chapter in IMPA’s book, IMPA on Pilotage.

Captain Peter Domigan, Pilot Manager / Senior Marine Pilot - Gladstone Marine Pilot Services (Gladstone Ports Corporation) Peter spent 15 years at sea employed as a Deck Officer with various Australian and British Shipping Companies from 1968 to 1983. He was appointed a Queensland Port Pilot in Cairns in 1983 and have held Pilot Licence Endorsements for the majority of Queensland Ports. Previously Peter represented and has been a pilotage/marine advisor to Maritime Safety Queensland and various Queensland Government Agencies covering numerous pilotage related activity, policy implementation and Port Projects. Since 1989 Peter been a Gladstone Region Pilot and was appointed Pilot Superintendent (Manager) with the Gladstone Port Authority in 2000. He has continued to hold the position of Pilot Manager / Senior Marine Pilot Gladstone both with Maritime Safety Queensland and currently with Gladstone Marine Pilot Services (Gladstone Ports Corporation) to date.

Captain Peter Dwyer, Harbour Master – Port Authority of New South Wales Newcastle - Australia Peter has been Harbour Master in Newcastle since 2011 following 10 years as a Marine Pilot in Newcastle. Prior to commencing as a Pilot Peter was a Ship’s Master with BHP Transport having commenced his sea going career with the company as a Deck Cadet Peter maintains a strong interest in Pilot Training.

Mr Nick Easy, Chief Executive Officer - Port of Melbourne Corporation – Australia Nick Easy commenced as Chief Executive Officer of Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) in February 2014, providing leadership for the strategic management of Australia’s largest container and automotive port. Prior to joining PoMC, Nick was the Chief Executive Officer at the Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Service Board (MFB) from June 2011 until February 2014 where he was responsible for leading an organisation of 2,300 staff through a period of sector reform while it continued to deliver emergency services to the Victorian community and beyond. Before taking up the MFB appointment, Nick had previously served with PoMC and its forerunner for over 13 years in various senior management positions, most notably as Executive General Manager Port Capacity and Executive General Manager Channel Deepening Project. In the latter role, Nick’s leadership and project delivery acumen was at the forefront of the successful completion of the Channel Deepening Project, the largest and most complex marine infrastructure project in the long history of the port. As a result, Nick’s extensive understanding of the port industry, together with his widely regarded project delivery experience, strengthens PoMC as it undertakes the $1.6 billion Port Capacity Project to accommodate future container and automotive trade volumes. Nick also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Planning and Post-Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management which underpin his previous roles in local government planning.

Captain David Evans, Check Pilot – QANTAS - Australia Captain David Evans was the Senior Check Captain onboard the Qantas A380 during a major incident in Singapore in 2010. His job is to train and check Qantas pilots on the Airbus A380 Super Jumbo. Captain Evans has some 35 years of experience and almost 20,000hrs of flight time. He extensive training experience on all Long-haul aircraft, in 2005 this experience resulted in him being invited to the team that introduced the A380 Super Jumbo to the Qantas Fleet. Since the incident David has been invited to address Air France and British Airways pilots on the CRM (crew resource management) and risk assessment and mitigation used. This has led to several “Keynote” addresses to the aviation, medical and other industries. At the time of the incident he was conducting a “Route Check” on the operating Captain as well as training a new “Check Captain”. The other flight deck crew were Richard de Crespigny (Pilot in Command, 15,000hrs), Harry Wubben (Route Check Captain, 20,000hrs) Matt Hicks (First Officer, 11,000hrs and Mark Johnson (Second Officer 8,000hrs). With the Cabin Service Manager (Michael Von Reth) this team boasted some 140 years of experience and over 71,000 flight hrs - a significant factor in the successful outcome of the incident. He considers that the most serious part of the whole incident being the time on the runway with fuel leaking over hot brakes and an engine that wouldn’t shut down.

Captain Neil Farmer, Conference Chairman – Australasian Marine Pilots Institute - Australia Captain Farmer has been fortunate to have resided in Sydney all this life; only leaving to go to sea at the age of 18 as a cadet with the Australian National Line in 1975. During his time with ANL he worked on: The light house tender, bulk carriers, Roll on Roll off vessels, container ships and the Bass Strait passenger ferry. He later worked with Brambles Shipping on their Bass Strait trade where he obtained his command, and pilotage exemptions, for Melbourne and Burnie. In 1992 Captain Farmer returned to his home port and accepted a position as Tug Master with Waratah Towage; and worked on their harbour tugs in Sydney, Botany Bay and Newcastle. He was successful in acquiring a pilot’s position in Sydney in 1997 and has enjoyed Piloting in the most beautiful Harbour in the world. He held a position on the Board of Directors when the service was private and now is active in his responsibilities on the training committee, check pilot and mentor pilot. Neil is currently on the executive of AMPI where he assists on the training committee. His inability to say no has enabled AMPI to host two International Pilotage Conferences with Captain Farmer as Chair of the Organising Committee for both.

Mr. Sandy Galbraith – Managing Director, Maritime Trade Intelligence - Australia Sandy has more than 40 years’ experience in the international maritime and transport industry. He completed his navigating officer cadetship with the British & Commonwealth Shipping Group (Clan Line, Union Castle) and between 1972 and 1979 served as a deck officer in trades worldwide. He reached the rank of chief officer. On coming ashore, Sandy embarked on a career with Fairplay in London. He wrote and edited the first two print editions of the Fairplay World Ports Directory, which is now in its 33rd edition and available electronically. In his years at Fairplay he travelled the world meeting many of the highest profile shipowners before coming to Australia in 1990 to join the DCN. Sandy later edited the Australian edition of the world's oldest daily newspaper, Lloyd’s List. In 2007, Sandy was awarded the Company of Master Mariners Outstanding Achievement Award and that same year joined maritime consultants Thompson Clarke Shipping as a senior consultant, becoming a director 12 months later. He created Maritime Trade Intelligence in September 2013.

Sandy has been contracted to work on major projects with a number of governments, government agencies, ports, shipping and commodity companies, international banks and financial institutions as well as some of the world's leading business consultancies. He has worked for prominent clients in all Australian states and territories, New Zealand, Asia and islands in the South Pacific.

Captain Hans G. Hederström, FNI Managing Director, CSMART - Carnival Maritime Quality Assurance (representing all Carnival Corporation Operating Lines) – Netherlands - Platinum Sponsor Captain Hederström is the Managing Director and principal architect in establishing the Center for Simulator Maritime Training, CSMART, part of the Carnival Corporation and plc group, located in Almere, the Netherlands. Captain Hederström holds a Master Mariners (class 1) licence, from the Maritime College in Gothenburg, Sweden and has sailed in all ranks up to and including Master and served as a pilot in port of Gothenburg for 22 years. In 2000 Captain Hederström became the Director of Star Cruises Ship Simulator Centre, in Port Klang, Malaysia. In 2005 he returned to Gothenburg and led the establishment of a new Full Mission Bridge simulator at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Captain Philip Holliday, Chief Operating Officer and Harbour Master – Port Authority of NSW Sydney – Australia Philip joined Sydney Ports in May 2011 and held the position of Executive General Manager Operations and Harbour Master. Following the long term leasing of landside port assets in NSW the Port Authority of New South Wales, a State Owned Corporation encompassing all commercial ports in NSW, was formed. Now in the role of Chief Operating Officer & Harbour Master Philip is responsible for leading the Port Authority operational teams in Sydney and Port Botany delivering Pilotage, Vessel Traffic Services, Marine Operations, Security and Hydrographic Survey services. Philip is also responsible for the operational and commercial management of the cruise sector across New South Wales. Philip has spent his entire career in the shipping and ports industries, starting his seagoing career as a 16 year old cadet when he joined Ropner Shipping Services and later moving to Souter Shipping where he gained his Class 1 (FGN) Masters certificate. A period at university saw Philip gain a BSc in Business Information Studies and then came a move into port operations when he joined the UK’s largest port operator, Associated British Ports (ABP), in 1998. Following a number of roles within ABP Philip became the Harbour Master for the ABP Port of Southampton and the Marine Advisor for the group’s twenty one UK ports. Philip took a lead role in the UK representing ports in areas such as developing industry guidelines for port marine safety, regulating the standards associated with vessel traffic services and ensuring compliance with the requirements of the UK’s Port Marine Safety Code. He has continued to develop his interest in port safety standards as he led the development of the Australian Port Marine Safety Management Guidelines whilst managing the growing number of cruise calls in Sydney Harbour and the marine services for the expanding operations in Port Botany.

Captain Antonio De Lieto, Senior Instructor – Smartship Australia Captain Di Lieto has sea-going experience as a hydrographic surveyor, Master of a hydrographic vessel and deck officer of cruise ships. His present professional interest is in Bridge design, human factors and Integrated Navigation techniques.

Mr Ryan Jones, Berthing & Husbandry Manager – APA Hub Ports Hub Operation Centre – APA LOC – Maersk Line - Malaysia Ryan joined AP Moller Maersk in 2000 and has since held the roles as Terminal HSSE Manager before transferring to the APM Terminals corporate office in The Hague, Netherlands in 2007 where he worked in the Corporate Safety Department as Senior Manager of HSSE. Ryan was instrumental in the further development and global execution of the Safety Auditing System (SCS) and rolling out the Corporate Health and Safety Guidelines for APM Terminals worldwide. In 2009, Ryan re-located to Shanghai to APM Terminals' APAC regional office as Regional Head of HSSE/Regional Operations Manager. In 2012 Ryan was on the move again, this time to Singapore as Senior Terminal Performance Partner for Maersk Line, in APA LOC. He manages Maersk Line's interests in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia with a focus on optimizing productivity through KPI, SLA, and stakeholder management. He is responsible for leading resource optimisation projects, while overseeing process improvements to ensure global reliability and on-time delivery. Most recently, Ryan has taken on the additional role of Manager of Berthing and Husbandry for all APA hub ports in the Hub Operations Centre at PTP. He is responsible for all aspects of port berthing, husbandry, and productivity including maintaining the critical network connections at Maersk Lines' key hub ports in Asia.

As a master mariner, John has served in all ranks up to and including Master in a wide variety of ship types, including LNG Tankers, Crude Oil Tankers, Chemical Tankers, and Bulk Carriers. John is also experienced in operating Trailer Suction Hopper Dredges and Split Hopper Barges in some of the biggest projects in Australia, including the Wheatstone LNG project in Western Australia and the Ichthys LNG project in Darwin. As a maritime lawyer, John has worked in a large commercial law firm and also as a senior executive at Maritime Safety Queensland. John's experience includes critical incident management, maritime safety and marine pollution compliance, as well as managing large projects, such as the extension of ReefVTS following the Shen Neng 1 grounding in 2010. John has management experience as a harbour master and VTS manager in Queensland.

Mr Marinus Jansen – Technical Innovations Manager, Rotortug - Netherlands Marinus Jansen holds an MSc and is a naval architect at Rotortug, which produces tug designs jointly with Robert Allan Ltd and takes a modern system-based approach to towage solutions. Jansen wrote his Masters thesis at the University of Technology in Delft, where he specialised in shipping management and innovative ship solutions. The past five years Jansen has been engaged with the next generation of Rotortugs or ART-series - tugs designed for operability and usability.

Mr Marcus John, Managing Director - Thomas Miller Australasia - Australia

Marcus qualified as a solicitor in the UK and worked in London and Sydney as a marine lawyer. He has been with Thomas Miller since 1995 starting out as the Australian p&i correspondent for the UK P&I Club. He runs the Sydney office and is responsible for claims, underwriting and loss prevention servicing for TT Club.

Captain Nick Lee, Marine Pilot, Chairman Technical and Training Committee – United Kingdom Marine Pilots Association – United Kingdom Capt Nick Lee has been a Port of London Authority Pilot, for 17 years. He holds an unrestricted authorisation and is one of a small number of ‘Haven pilots’ specialising in handling VLCC’s and ultra large vessels of up to 400m in length. Additionally, he holds an IALA V103/2 VTS supervisor certificate and regularly acts as a duty port controller, responsible for overseeing port operations in the London VTS centre. A previous chairman of the London Pilots Association for 4 years, Nick is an active member of the United Kingdom Marine Pilots Association, and has been the Chairman of the UKMP Technical & Training Committee for the past 3 years, where his focus is Pilot training and safety. Nick represents the UKMPA at a number of National committee’s, including the MCA Port Marine Safety Code steering group, VTS steering group and the MCA Small workboat & Pilot boat code. Nick was the principle author for the MCA document, Pilot Assessment – A guide to good practice, and is currently involved in developing the UK National Marine Pilot Certificate. Nick is also a serving Magistrate on the Mid Kent Bench, a position he has held since 2004.

Captain Peter Liley, Director, Australasian Marine Pilots Institute – Australia Born in Cairns and raised in Brisbane, Peter started a career at sea in 1978, when he joined the Australian National Line (ANL) as a deck cadet. Peter studied Second Mates and Masters at the Australian Maritime College, Launceston. Serving 18 years at sea with ANL, AOS, Century Group and P&O Polar. Peter gained first command on Lady Penelope in 1989 and RSV Aurora Australis in 1994. In 1996, Peter started piloting, working as a sea pilot in the Great Barrier Reef for 6 years. In 2002, Peter followed his grandfather, uncle and father, joined Brisbane Marine Pilots, as a 3rd generation Brisbane pilot. Peter has served on the executive of AMPA and AMPI for many years and is the immediate past president. In addition to his executive role with AMPI, Peter continues to work as a port pilot with Brisbane Marine Pilots. He pilots about 180 ships or 7 million tonnes (GRT) of shipping in the Port of Brisbane per year. Peter has a particular interest in pilot training and is a qualified simulator instructor.

Captain Peter Listrup, Director - Smartship Australia - Australia Captain Listrup is a Master Mariner with over 30 years of seagoing experience, including 10 years in command. Peter has considerable and extensive experience in the operations and management of marine simulators. Prior to his current role as Director of Smartship Australia from 2011, Peter was the Vice President of the Star Cruises Ship Simulator in Malaysia.

Captain Rory Main, Senior Marine Pilot – Fremantle Pilots and Managing Director - Fremantle Maritime Simulation Centre - Australia Rory is the managing director of the Fremantle Maritime Simulation Centre and is a full time pilot with Fremantle Pilots. He has been involved in pilotage matters for over two decades, including a pilot manager with Fremantle Pilots and as President of the Australian Marine Pilots Association. He been working on the Pilot Training Program since the inception of the Industry Pilot Training Working Group in 2005.

Mr John McRobert – Civil Engineer - Australia

Mr Simon Meyjes – Chief Executive Officer, Australian Reef Pilots - Australia Simon has been Chief Executive Officer of Australian Reef Pilots since July 2011. ARP is an AMSA licensed coastal pilotage provider currently employing 40 coastal pilots engaged in both compulsory and non-compulsory ship’s pilotage in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. ARP’s motto, “Guardians Of The Reef” has its roots more than 125 years ago when pilotage of square rigged sailing ships through the treacherous Torres Strait was pioneered. ARP operates a diverse fleet of 9 pilot vessels from pilot stations in Mackay, Bowen, Cairns, Thursday Island and Yorke Island. Prior to joining ARP, Simon spent 3 years in the Middle East as General Manager of Al Masaood Bergum Offshore, engaged in the design and construction of offshore production platforms for the oil and gas industry. During that time, his company was awarded the J. Ray McDermott Middle East Safety and Quality award in recognition of achieving 3 million man hours worked without lost time incidents.

In a maritime industry career spanning more than 30 years, Simon has been involved from shop floor to senior management levels in boat and shipbuilding, deep sea commercial fishing, ship repair and maritime consultancy. He has extensive experience in designing, developing and testing high performance small craft, both mono and multihull. He was recipient of the 1991 Churchill Fellowship to study global best practise in maritime technology.

Mr Alec Millett, Manager Coastal Pilotage, Australian Maritime Safety Authority - Australia Alec is currently Manager Coastal Pilotage where he is responsible for overseeing the regulation, monitoring and management of AMSA’s coastal pilotage interests. These responsibilities include interpreting and applying the provisions of the Marine Order relating to pilotage, ensuring efficient coastal pilotage licencing, facilitating stakeholder engagement & overseeing AMSA’s under keel clearance management operation. Prior to joining AMSA, Alec was the Deputy Harbour Master/Manager Marine Operations at the Port of Fremantle, Western Australia' largest general cargo port. This wide-ranging operational and strategic maritime role included the management of Vessel Traffic Services, pilotage (and related parameters), commercial navigational safety, towage, dynamic under keel clearance (DUKC) management, maritime customer liaison, incident response and hydrographic surveys. With 30 years in the greater maritime domain, Alec has also worked in prominent private sector companies, Defence, government and government trading enterprises. He has formal qualifications in maritime operations, management, business planning and hydrography from leading tertiary institutions such as Lloyds Maritime Academy (London) and the Australian Maritime College (Tasmania). He is currently a full member of the International Harbour Masters Association and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Captain Ravi Nijjer, Principal Consultant - Marine Consultancy Group - Australia After a seagoing career from 1962 to 1980 Ravi Nijjer came ashore to join the marine section at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). From 1990 to 1995 he was head of the marine section. Encouraged by the Australian shipping industry he left the RMIT in September 1995 to take on the role of Principal Consultant of Marine Consultancy Group. Over the last 20 years the company has provided on-site delivery of customized training, organized seminars and workshops, conducted reviews of bridge operations on cruise ships, independent safety investigations and research projects for both the Australian and international shipping industries. His recent work has involved developing a 2nd generation Bridge Resource Management Course which is now well established and research into safety management systems initiated by a request for a suitable safety management system for the unique risk profile of pilotage operations. This involved reverting to a first principles approach which has been taken up by several pilotage organizations. Over the years he has written papers and made many presentations on a range of topics. Ravi is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute, and Honorary Member of Australasian Maritime Pilots Institute (AMPI) and the New Zealand Maritime Pilots Association (NZMPA). In 2014 after nomination by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) he was adjudged the winner of the award for Maritime Services at the annual Lloyds List Awards.

Captain Simon Pelletier, President - International Marine Pilots’ Association - Canada Simon Pelletier is an experienced mariner, having sailed on many different types of vessels, on every ocean, and made ports of call on all continents. He started his career in 1982 and rapidly achieved the rank of master before qualifying for his license as a marine pilot on the St. Lawrence River in 1996. A champion of both his profession and marine safety, Captain Pelletier has played a leadership role in the Corporation of Lower St. Lawrence Pilots, which he served as President from 2004 to 2007, and in the Canadian Marine Pilots’ Association (CMPA), of which he became President in 2009. Captain Pelletier also has a keen interest in international affairs affecting marine pilotage. First elected as Vice-president of the International Maritime Pilots Association (IMPA) in 2008, Capt. Pelletier was elected IMPA President in 2014 for a four-year term. As President, he is responsible for ensuring that pilots from six continents speak with one voice on global issues affecting pilotage and for ensuring that they play a constructive role in discussions with their partners in the international maritime sector and, in particular, with the International Maritime Organization.

Mr Mike Prince, Director Charting Services - Australian Hydrographic Service - Australia Mike Prince joined the Navy since 1977, and has been with the Australian Hydrographic Service since 1986, initially as a serving naval officer, hydrographic surveyor, navigator and commanding officer, then moved into a civilian role as the Director Charting Services in 2002. In this role he is responsible for delivery of charts, publications and associated services to meet the nationally legislated requirements, and in that time has overseen the full modernisation of the Australian chart series, establishing full Electronic Navigation Chart coverage for the Australian Charting Area, and more recently, setting the direction to get much more out of those ENC than a simple duplication of the paper charts. Much of this direction, including influencing standards within the International Hydrographic Organisation, comes from regular opportunities to talk with marine pilots. Mike will be discussing current trends in charting within pilotage areas, as well directions for the near future.

Mr Gary Prosser – Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Australian Maritime Safety Authority - Australia Gary has over 35 years’ experience in the maritime industry, coming from a seagoing career serving on Australian ships in both the International and domestic trades. He was part of the inaugural intake to the Australian Maritime College in 1980. His last seagoing position was as Chief Officer of a high speed catamaran and additionally spent a number of years lecturing at the Australian Maritime College. For a number of years Mr Prosser managed offshore supply vessel operations in Australia with Tidewater Port Jackson Marine, prior to taking up the position of General Manager P&O Polar, Australia, managing both Antarctic and Research vessels. Mr Gary Prosser joined the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) in 1997 as Manager Ship Operations and occupied a number of senior management positions within the organisation, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in 2008. Whilst employed at AMSA he represented Australia in many International fora and regularly led the Australian delegation to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). In 2009, Mr Gary Prosser was appointed to the role of IALA Secretary-General headquartered in Paris, France and occupied the position for five years, departing in 2014. In 2015, Mr Prosser returned to the role of AMSA Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to this Adam had a 17 year seagoing career starting with BHP Transport and Logistics as a deck cadet in 1995. During this period he worked through the deck officer ranks to Master in the Northwest Shelf LNG Fleet. In 2005 Adam was seconded to serve in Seagoing Fleet Trainer/Internal Auditor with Teekay Shipping.

During the Secondment period with Teekay Shipping he was a key member of the team primarily tasked with rolling out a new Safety Management System to Teekay’s Spanish fleet.

Through a takeover deal in 2008 Adam joined Shell as Master in the Northwest Shelf LNG fleet. His experience with Teekay resulted in him being seconded to roll out a behaviour based safety system to the Australian Fleet.

Adam is a member of AMPI and an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.
