4F Condulet® Conduit Bodies andOutlet BoxesApplication and Selection

Application:Hazardous area conduit bodies and outletboxes are installed in rigid conduit systems inClass I and II hazardous locations to: protect conductors act as pull and splice boxes connect lengths of conduit change conduit direction provide access to conductors formaintenance and future system changes act as mounting outlets for fixtures (withappropriate covers) act as sealing fittings (with appropriatecovers)

Considerations forSelection: Determine the area classification perNational Electrical Code Hazardous AreaGroups. Based on this classification, selectthe product families that are acceptable foruse in the particular location. Establish functional physical requirements– these will help to determine box size, cover, shape and mounting for the particularinstallation. Each product family has features suitablefor specific functions:

i.e., boxes used as mountings forlighting fixtures are generally of a smallsize, and provided with mounting lugswhen required to support lighting fixtures. Boxes used for wire pulling shouldgenerally be larger to provide room foreasy pulling. Boxes used to splice and/or tapconductors should be large enough topermit ease of work and sufficient roomfor the required size and number ofconductors. Hub size and configuration – dependent

on the conduit system configuration and theconduit size used. Material and finish – determine fromenvironmental conditions (corrosive fumes, weather, buried in concrete, etc.)

Options and Accessories: Flat blank covers (surface and flangedflush), fixture support and sealing covers andextensions are available. See specificproduct listing for details. Lubricant (STL and HTL) are available tomake joints raintight, provide for easy coverremoval and to lubricate shafts over a widetemperature range. Corro-freeTM epoxy powder coat –information available on request.
