Principal’s Report

At Condobolin we are Strong Smart and Proud

Welcome back to the last term for this year. Our students have settled quickly into their class routines following the holidays.

Congratulations to the students that participated in the Stage 3 excursion to Bathurst last week. They have been excellent ambassadors for our school, receiving positive comments everywhere they went. Thank you to the teachers that gave their time to accompany these students.

On behalf of the students and staff of Condobolin Public School, I would like to wish all Year 12 students well as they undertake their HSC examinations, and enter a new phase in their lives as adults.

Yarn Up – CV Writing

A couple of Yarn Up sessions are being held tomorrow, Wednesday 19th October, at the CTC building in the morning and again in the afternoon. While it has been advertised that the first session will have an 11 am start, this may be delayed depending on arrival time of the first plane into Parkes airport. The last session starts at 3 pm.

If you are interested in learning how to look at a job ad and write a resume that addresses all the criteria, come along and join the Yarn Up with Annette and Veronica.

Aboriginal Meetings Next Week

Next Monday, 24th October - Advisory Group (AEAG) meeting for interested parents, carers and staff to be held in the AEOs room at 2 pm.

Tuesday, 25th October - The first annual general meeting for the formation of an Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) will be held at 11 am in the Wiradjuri Study Centre. All are welcome to attend.

Missing Items

I have been contacted in relation to some items that have gone missing from the cemetery. If you know of someone coming home unexpectedly with some butterfly wings, a toy car, old mobile phone or angel ornament, you may ask if they have come from the cemetery. If this is the case, please drop them into the school so that we can return them to owners. Otherwise, please arrange for them to be returned to the grave.

Attendance – It’s Not Okay to Be Away

Historically, this is the term that students tend to be away most throughout the year. We are hoping to break this trend.

When students are not at school, they are missing out. The more school that student’s miss, the further they fall behind at school, and the less they want to come to school. On the other hand, students that attend regularly are happy to be at school and perform better in the classroom.

All absences need to be explained in writing, or by calling the school office on 6895 2134.

Library Shelving

Thanks to our P&C, new shelving has arrived for our library. Mr Whitla installed the shelving over the holidays. A team of dedicated staff, lead by Ms Wright, have re-shelved all of the books. Students who assisted Ms Wright last week, have been excited by the new look library.

Smart in the Sun

As we head into the warmer weather, it is expected that all students will have a broad-brimmed hat to play on the oval. Hats are available for purchase at the canteen at a cost of $16.

Fragrance Free

As we head into the warmer months, some families may be considering the use of sunscreens to protect from sun exposure. Please consider fragrance free sunscreens, particularly if one of your children is in class S1L.

Transforming the Train – Helpers Needed

We have been advised that our train is in need of work as soon as possible to reduce the necessity for major work at a later date. Luckily, we can save the train and some dollars if we hold a working bee. All we need is people, power-tools and time to strip the existing paint, sand the metal, and prime and paint the roof.

If you are able to help with some time, please contact Lizzie Keen on 0411 208 791 or Colleen O’Byran on 0488 508 523.

Many hands make for light work!

Bulletin on Website

You may find a slight change to the method in which you can download our school bulletin from our school website. There is no longer a Newsletter tab. It is now found as a link on the front page between the headings Latest News and Photo Albums.

Local Schools, Local Decisions Consultation

I have been asked to pass the following information on to all parents:

The Minister for Education has announced consultation regarding a strategy to provide greater decision making at the local level in schools. The consultation results from a commitment to give local schools and teachers more authority to adapt what they do and how they do it to meet the needs of their students. I have been given the brief of conducting consultation in Western NSW Region and am busy meeting with principals and staff at present. Due to the vastness of our region, it is not possible to meet with all schools communities in Western NSW Region but I am eager that parents have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion. An online forum for this purpose has been set up at http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/announcements/yr2011/aug/lsld/index.php

This link provides details regarding the various aspects of the consultation and elicits your thoughts and advice, there are also addition links to all the consultation materials. If you would like to make a contribution to the discussion please do not hesitate to engage in this online forum. If you do not have access to the internet yourself please contact your local school principal for assistance with access and/or copies of the documents. Kindergarten Visits

This is an opportunity to visit the Kindergarten classroom and interact with the current

Kindergarten students. Where children can come, look around and join in some of the learning

experiences that occur on a daily basis at school.

This opportunity will offer students to take part in a 40 minute lesson and give parents the

chance to see how team teaching occurs. It is also a great time for parents to ask questions

if they have any further queries regarding coming to school.

A teacher will be available to speak to and give parents a tour of the school while the lesson

is taking place or they may wish to just sit and enjoy seeing their child meet some new

friends and watch the teachers work their magic.

Kindergarten visits will be available on the following days

Term 4 – Week 6

Dates – Monday 14th November, Tuesday 15th November and Wednesday 16th November

from 10.30 – 11.10am only

These visits are replacing kindergarten orientation day. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Kindergarten Garden is prospering!!!

We have cooked and eaten some produce,

but we still have more!!! If you would like

some beetroot or spinach, we are selling

some to raise much needed garden funds.

All of our plants are organic – we have not

used any chemicals, and our Kindergarten

students have worked hard watering and

weeding. Please send in a note letting us

know whether it is beetroot or spinach

you’re after, and we’ll set to work

harvesting!

There is only a limited supply of each, so

TO ALL PARENTS

From the P&C Committee

If the canteen is unable to obtain volunteers to help on the days where

help is needed we will be forced to close our canteen for that day.

VOLUNTEERS KEEP THE CANTEEN GOING!

They allow valuable P&C money to be spent on your children’s needs, rather than staff

costs. The P&C should not need to approach parents individually for help.

WE ARE IN NEED OF HELPERS, these are your children too! This is a

service provided by the P&C to ensure our children have healthy choices for lunch and

recess.

At the end of this term a prize will be drawn from our pool of volunteer names. This

will be both an incentive and a reward for volunteering to help.

If you are able to do a ½ day (9am to 12midday) or a full day, anything is greatly

appreciated.

Please complete the form below and return to the canteen with your relevant details

eg Name and contact phone number so you can be contacted or phone Betty Jones on

68952703 who will be more than happy to speak to you about what days are needed

to cover. There is not a lot required to do and staff are willing to help train you.
