Dear Parents and Caregivers, Flooding Update Following the flood damage to the school 5 weeks ago, we still have 11 classrooms and 2 staffrooms out of use. These rooms are predominately in the TAS and Visual Arts areas of the school. We have 2 demountable Hospitality Kitchens on site and these will be operational this week. We have the infrastructure in place for our Visual Arts studio and are expecting delivery of the building towards the end of this week. Indications are that we are likely to be continuing to rely on these temporary facilities until early next year. • Dear Parents and Caregivers,

    Flooding Update

Following the flood damage to the school 5 weeks ago, we still have 11 classrooms and 2

staffrooms out of use. These rooms are predominately in the TAS and Visual Arts areas of the

school. We have 2 demountable Hospitality Kitchens on site and these will be operational this

week. We have the infrastructure in place for our Visual Arts studio and are expecting delivery of

the building towards the end of this week. Indications are that we are likely to be continuing to

rely on these temporary facilities until early next year.

    Year 12 Graduation

This event was held last Thursday 15th October. Although Covid restrictions meant that family and

friends were unable to attend, we livestreamed this event to over 200 viewers via Zoom and

published a recorded version to Youtube with an hour of the completion of the event. The graduation

was an exceptionally smooth and successful event thanks to the impeccable organisation of our Year

12 Welfare Team and School Administration staff. My thanks to everyone involved including the year

12 students who were outstanding with their presentation and behaviour on the day.

    HSC Exams

The HSC written exams commence on Tuesday 20th October. In an effort to keep our school as safe

and disruption free as possible, I would ask all families to be especially vigilant over the coming weeks

to ensure if students are unwell that they be kept at home and be tested.

Year 12 have had a difficult, disrupted year. I am confident that as a school we have done everything

possible to minimise these disruptions and the students and staff have worked particularly hard to

ensure our students have not been disadvantaged. On behalf of all the staff, I wish them the very best

    for their HSC exams.

    School Improvements

During the Term 3 holiday period a number of projects were completed around the school. The

most notable of which has been the instillation of 8 new air-conditioning units to classrooms across

the school. These air-conditioners have been made possible due to the generous donation of funds

from our Concord High P&C and are a direct result of their fund-raising efforts over the past few

    years.

These new units mean that EVERY up-stairs classroom across the school is now air-conditioned in

preparation for the upcoming summer weather. These up-stairs rooms are noticeably hotter than

    those on the lower level.

The P&C has also donated funds to allow us to re-develop our under-utilised Metalwork Room into

a STEM Laboratory. The work on this has commenced and we anticipate that this new space will be

available from the start of the 2021 school year.

    School Planning 2021-2024

The school is currently in the process of reflecting and evaluating on every aspect of school

operations in preparation for the new 2021-2024 School Plan. This has been a 3 step process:

    1. A critical self-assessment of our current strengths and weaknesses

    2. An External Validation of this self-assessment by evaluators from outside the school

    3. The creation of a validated Situational Analysis that provides us with a blueprint for

the next 4 year School Plan

During the course of this year, the Executive Team have completed the self-assessment process

and a dedicated team have been working on collecting our evidence to present to the External

Validation Team to have this self-assessment reviewed.

Last Thursday the external review panel critiqued our self-assessment across 14 different

elements of school excellence including teaching, learning and leadership. I am pleased to advise

our school community that in ALL 14 elements the review panel validated the schools internal

assessment (a bit like getting 100% in a test). As a school we were extremely proud of the

outcome of this process. It gives us the confidence that our school improvement journey is

well on track and that we are well positioned to develop our new school plan.

The school will now move forward in the development of a draft School Plan and this will be

shared with the school community over the coming weeks.

    Until Next Fortnight

Inner West bus service changes from Sunday 25 October

Almost 1,000 additional weekly bus services will be introduced in the Inner West from Sunday 25 October, including faster services on Parramatta Road as well as extra services on key

routes. There will also be changes to some bus routes, route numbers, and timetable adjustments to reflect demand and improve reliability.

Adjustments will be made to many school bus services, with changes to timetables and some having changes to their route. Some buses will also operate earlier than they currently do in order

    to improve their reliability.

    Trip planning and further information

Parents and students are encouraged to plan their trip to see if the timetable changes will impact the way that they currently travel to and from school. More information, including timetables, maps, trip planning and school service details is available at transportnsw.info, or by downloading real-time travel apps onto a smartphone or tablet. School service information can also be viewed on

    the Transit Systems website – www.transitsystems.com.au .

    Student Opal Card Reminder

Please ensure your students are aware of the condition of use of their Opal Card, and the importance of carrying and using their card whenever they travel.

It is a condition of travel that all students tap on with their Student Opal card every time they board the bus, and tap off when they alight. This allows Transport for NSW and bus operators to assess the patronage of bus services, including School Special buses, to ensure that resources are used

    efficiently and meet customer demand.
