1 EVE-ONLINE
At the dawn of the 25th Century, Earth and its near systems had becomeovercrowded. Explorers and entrepreneurs thrilled at the discovery of a natural wormhole leading toa solar system in an unknown galaxy. This portal held endless possibilities of a newbeginning for civilization, and was hence dubbed “Eve.” Lured by the promise of freesettlements, entrepreneurs and independent organizations poured through thewormhole to stake their claims in this new land.
Scientists warned that the wormhole would close again within a few decades. Racingagainst time, construction began on a manmade portal to allow safe passage betweenthe home system and Eve.

Suddenly, the scientists’ worst fears were realized and the wormhole closed.Nonetheless, construction continued and the gates of Eve opened and operatedperfectly for seven decades. Disaster struck once again. An unexplainedphenomenon engulfed the Gates of Eve, rendering them inoperable. Restorationefforts proved futile due to the malevolent magnetic storm perpetually surroundingthe gates. The results were swift and devastating. The fledgling settlements foundthemselves cut off from the old world, on which they were still heavily dependent.
Lack of oxygen, water and food had a catastrophic effect on the colonies and onlythe strongest managed to survive and reproduce. Scientific knowledge and high-tech industry dwindled with each generation. Tools and materials once takenfor granted diminished and disappeared.
Of the surviving colonies, several small, independent factions and stateswere formed. For thousands of years, these scattered groups lived and grew inisolation from each other. Environmental differences led to evolutionary changes, making each group distinct in appearance and behavior Ultimately, five of thesecolonies emerged to become the major empires that hold the balance of power inthe world of Eve today.

Amarr The largest of the empires in the world of EVE. Religion remains ofgreat importance to every Amarrian. They view their emperor as thepersonification of god, therefore the link between religion and secularauthority is strong, a fervor which at various times has beenresponsible both for great good and great evil.
GallenteThe Gallenteans. Adversaries find them self-righteous, meddling, pompous and tiresome. Allies regard them as virile liberalists andchampions of individual freedom. With a strong sense of patriotism, the Federation is the only true democracy and they guard it fiercely, protectors of the free world and a shelter for the oppressed. Lovethem or hate them, you simply can't ignore them.
CaldariThe Caldari are a society steeped in military tradition. They are veryprotective of their way of life and tolerate only those foreigners thatstick to the rules. Corporate structure and capitalism drive theirexistence in their perception that all citizens are pegs in the huge statemachine. Duty and loyalty are virtues they follow closely. They arepersistent, tenacious and organized.

MinmitarMinmatars are a determined and independent people. For them, themost important thing in life is to be self-sufficient. Over time, the racehas been split apart from itself due to conquest and forced andvoluntary migration. Though very few actually dwell within theboundaries of the Minmatar Republic, they are staunchly loyal to theirtribal ties.
JoveThe Jovians are the most mysterious and elusive of all the peoples ofEVE. Though they are greatly outnumbered, their exploration andexperimentation in genetic engineering led to drastic changes in theirmental and physiological capabilities, which resulted in making themtechnologically superior and powerful beyond all proportion.
