Application instructions
Preparation
Bolt pockets
The inside of the pockets shall be cleaned free from debrisetc., using oil free compressed air. If the walls of the pocketare smooth, they shall be roughened by using a wire brush.
If any oil or grease deposits are observed on the walls of thepocket they shall be cleaned thoroughly. The bolts shall becleaned to remove any rust on its surface using wire brush oremery paper.
Pre-soaking
Several hours prior to grouting, the bolt pockets should beflooded with fresh water.
Immediately before grouting takes place any free water shouldbe removed with particular care being taken to blow out allbolt holes and pockets.
Mixing and placing
For best results a mechanically powered grout mixer shouldbe used. When quantities up to 50kg are used, a heavy dutyslow speed drill ( 300 - 500 rpm) fitted with a suitable paddleshall be used. Larger quantities will require a high shearvane mixer. Normal concrete mixers can also be used.
To enable the grouting operation to be carried out continuously,it is essential that sufficient mixing capacity and labour areavailable. The use of a grout holding tank with provision togently agitate the grout may be required.
Consistency of grout mix
The quantity of clean water required to be added to a 25kgbag to achieve the desired consistency is 4.25 litres(pourable).
The selected water content should be accurately measuredinto the mixer. The total content of the Conbextra BPG groutbag should be slowly added and continuous mixing shouldtake place for 5 minutes. This will ensure that the grout hasan even consistency without any bleed or segregation.
Placing
At 300C the mixed Conbextra BPG shall be placed within20 - 25 minutes of mixing to gain full benefit of the expansionprocess.
Conbextra BPG can be placed in depths up to 1000mm in asingle pour incase of a 150 x 150mm pocket.
For larger depths grouting in stages (2 or 3) isrecommended.
While grouting bolt pockets which are difficult to access, afunnel and hosepipe of 50mm internal dia shall be used.
Continuous pouring of grout is essential. Sufficient groutmust be prepared before starting. The time taken to pour abatch must be regulated to the time to prepare the next one.
It is necessary to fill the pockets up to a height of 25mmbelow the top surface. This is to provide a mechanical keyto the base plate grout.
Curing
On completion of the grouting operation, exposed areasshould be thoroughly cured. This should be done by theuse of Concure curing membrane, continuous applicationof water and/or wet hessian.

Instructions for use
Preparation
Underplate grouting
The unrestrained surface area of the grout must be kept to aminimum. Generally, the gap between the perimeter formworkand the plate edge should not exceed 75 mm on the pouringside and 25 mm on the opposite side. Formwork on the flanksides should be kept tight to the plate edge. Air pressurerelief holes should be provided to allow venting of any isolatedhigh spots.
Formwork
The formwork should be constructed to be leak proof asConbextra EP10 is a free flow grout. This can be achieved byusing foam rubber strip or mastic sealant beneath theconstructed formwork and between joints.
For free flow grout conditions, it is essential to provide ahydrostatic head of grout. To achieve this a feeding hoppershould be used - please consult your local Fosroc office formore details.
Foundation surface
This must be free from oil, grease, or any loosely adherentmaterial. If the concrete surface is defective or has laitence,it must be cut back to a sound base. Bolt holes or fixingpockets must be blown clean of any dirt or debris.
Base plate
If delay is likely before placing steel base plates, it isrecommended that the underside and edges are coated withNitoprime 25* to prevent rust formation and ensure bondingwith the Conbextra EP10 grout. All metal surfaces should becleaned to a bright finish in accordance with SwedishStandard SA 2½ or equal. Nitoprime 25 can be applied directlyonto newly cleaned steel surfaces even if they are damp.
Conbextra® EP10
Mixing
The entire contents of the hardener can should be pouredinto the base container and mixed for 2-3 minutes or untiluniform colour is achieved. Once mixed, the material mustbe used within the specified pot life (see under Properties). After this time, unused material will have stiffened and shouldbe discarded.
Note: Immediately prior to placement, all surfaces must bedry.
Placing
Ensure that the grout can be placed within its pot life.Continuous grout flow is essential. Sufficient grout must beavailable prior to starting and the time taken to pour a batchmust be regulated to the time taken to prepare the next one.Pouring should be from one side of the void to eliminate airentrapment. The hydrostatic head must be maintained at alltimes so that a continuous grout front is achieved.
Cleaning
All tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately afteruse with Nitoflor Sol*.
Hot weather working
Whilst the performance of Conbextra EP10 at elevatedtemperatures is assured, application under such conditionscan sometimes be difficult. It is therefore suggested that, fortemperatures above 35ºC, the following guidelines are used:
(i) Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperaturecontrolled) environment, avoiding exposure to directsunlight.
(ii) Keep mixing and placing equipment cool, arrangingshade protection if necessary. It is especially importantto keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which willcome into direct contact with the material itself.
(iii) Try to eliminate application in the middle of the day, andcertainly avoid application in direct sunlight.
(iv) Ensure that there are sufficient operatives available tocomplete application within the material’s pot life.
Limitations
- Grouts should not be placed in any unrestrained situation,i.e. base plate plinths, etc. Failure to comply may lead tocrack development in the grout.

Application instructions
Formwork
The formwork should be constructed to be leak proof asConbextra EP75 is a free flow grout.
Conbextra® EP75
Base plate
If delay is likely before placing steel base plates, it isrecommended that the underside and edge are coated withNitoprime 25* to prevent rust formation and ensure bondingwith the Conbextra EP75 grout. All metal surfaces should becleaned to a bright finish in accordance with SwedishStandard SA 2½ or equal. Nitoprime 25 can be applied directlyonto newly cleaned steel surfaces even if they are damp.
Mixing
The entire contents of the hardener can should be pouredinto the base container and mixed until homogeneous. Placethe mixed base and hardener into a suitable forced actionmixer making sure that the entire volume is poured in. Addthe aggregate and mix for 2-3 minutes or until uniform colouris achieved. Once mixed, the material must be used withinthe specified pot life (see under Properties). After this time, unused material will have stiffened and should be discarded.
Note: Immediately prior to placement, all surfaces must be dry.
Whilst the performance of Conbextra EP75 at elevatedtemperatures is assured, application under such conditionscan sometimes be difficult. It is therefore suggested that, fortemperatures above 35°C, the following guidelines are used:
i Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperaturecontrolled) environment, avoiding exposure to directsunlight.
ii Keep mixing and placing equipment cool, arrangingshade protection if necessary. It is especially important tokeep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will comeinto direct contact with the material itself.
iii Try to eliminate application in the middle of the day, andcertainly avoid application in direct sunlight.
iv Ensure that there are sufficient operatives available tocomplete application within the material’s pot life.
Limitations
- Grouts should not be placed in any unrestrained situation,i.e. base plate plinths, etc. Failure to comply may lead tocrack development in the grout.

Application instructions
Preparation
Foundation surface
The substrate surface must be free from oil, grease or anyloosely adherent material. If the concrete surface is defectiveor has laitence, it must be cut back to a sound base. Bolt holesand fixing pockets must be blown clean of any dirt or debris.
Pre-soaking
Several hours prior to placing, the concrete substrates shouldbe saturated with fresh water.
Immediately before grouting takes place any free water shouldbe removed with particular care being taken to blow out allbolt holes and pockets.
Base plate
It is essential that this is clean and free from oil, grease orscale. Air pressure relief holes should be provided to
allow venting of any isolated high spots.
Levelling shims
If these are to be removed after the grout has hardened, theyshould be treated with a thin layer of grease.
Formwork
The formwork should be constructed to be leakproof. Thiscan be achieved by using foam rubber strip or mastic sealantbeneath the constructed formwork and between joints.
In some cases it is practical to use a sacrificial semi-drysand and cement formwork. The formwork should includeoutlets for pre-soaking.
Conbextra® GP2
Unrestrained surface area
This must be kept to a minimum. Generally the gap widthbetween the perimeter formwork and the plate edge shouldnot exceed 150mm on the pouring side and 50mm on theopposite side. It is advisable, where practical, to have no gapat the flank sides.
Mixing and placing
Mixing
For best results a mechanically powered grout mixer shouldbe used. When quantities up to 50kg are used, a heavy dutyslow speed drill (400-500 rpm) fitted with a paddle is suitable..Larger quantities will require a heavy duty mixer.
To enable the grouting operation to be carried out continuously,it is essential that sufficient mixing capacity and labour areavailable. The use of a grout holding tank with provision togently agitate the grout may be required.
Consistency of grout mix
The quantity of clean water required to be added to a 25kgbag to achieve the desired consistency is given below :
Pourable : 4.125 litres
Flowable : 4.500 litres
The selected water content should be accurately measuredinto the mixer. The total content of the Conbextra GP2 bagshould be slowly added and continuous mixing should takeplace for 5 minutes. This will ensure that the grout has asmooth even consistency.
Placing
At 300C place the grout within 20 minutes of mixing to gainfull benefit of the expansion process.
Conbextra GP2 can be placed in thicknesses up to 100mmin a single pour when used as an underplate grout.
For thicker sections it is necessary to fill out Conbextra GP2with well graded silt free aggregate to minimise heat buildup. Typically a 10mm aggregate is suitable. 50 - 100%aggregate weight of Conbextra GP2 can be added.
Any bolt pockets must be grouted prior to grouting betweenthe substrate and the base plate.
Continuous grout flow is essential. Sufficient grout must beprepared before starting. The time taken to pour a
batch must be regulated to the time to prepare the next one.
Typical hopper system
Removable hopper : For large pours the grout may be handplaced or pumped into a removable hopper ( trough)
Pouring should be from one side of the void to eliminate anyair or presoaked water becoming trapped under the baseplate. It is advisable to pour the grout across the shortestdistance of travel. The grout head must be maintained at alltimes so that a continuous grout front is achieved.
Where large volumes have to be placed Conbextra GP2 maybe pumped. A heavy duty diaphragm pump is
recommended for this purpose. Screw feed and piston pumpsmay also be suitable.
Curing
On completion of the grouting operation, exposed areasshould be thoroughly cured. This should be done by the useof Concure WB curing membrane, continuous application ofwater and/or wet hessian.

Surface Preparation
Foundation surface
The substrate surface must be free from oil, grease or anyloosely adherent material. If the concrete surface is defectiveor has laitence, it must be cut back to a sound base. Boltholes and fixing pockets must be blown clean of any dirt ordebris.
Pre-soaking
Several hours prior to placing, the concrete substrates shouldbe saturated with fresh water.
Conbextra® HES
Immediately before grouting takes place any free water shouldbe removed with particular care being taken to blow out all boltholes and pockets.
Formwork
The formwork should be constructed to be leakproof. Thiscan be achieved by using foam rubber strip or mastic sealantbeneath the constructed formwork and between joints.
In some cases it is practical to use a sacrificial semi-dry sandand cement formwork. The formwork should include outletsfor pre-soaking.
When quantities up to 30kg are used, a slow speeddrill fitted with a high shear mixer is suitable.
To enable the grouting operation to be carried out continuously,it is essential that sufficient mixing capacity and labour areavailable. The use of a grout holding tank with provision togently agitate the grout may be required.
Note : When required to grout at high ambient temperatures,Fosroc recommends usage of cold water maintained at 50C.
Consistency of grout mix
The quantity of clean water required to be added to a 15kg bagto achieve the desired consistency is given below
The selected water content should be accurately measuredinto the mixer. The total content of the Conbextra HES bagshould be slowly added and continuous mixing should takeplace for 5 minutes. This will ensure that the grout has asmooth even consistency.
Placing
At 300C place the grout within 10 minutes of mixing.
Conbextra HES can be placed in thicknesses up to 50mm ina single pour.
For thicker sections it is necessary to fill out Conbextra HESwith well graded silt free aggregate to minimise heat build up.Typically a 5 - 10mm aggregate is suitable. 50 - 100%aggregate weight of Conbextra HES can be added dependingon the thickness to be applied.
Continuous grout flow is essential. Sufficient grout must beprepared before starting. The time taken to pour a batch mustbe regulated to the time to prepare the next one.
The uniformly mixed grout should be placed using a suitablegrout pump for faster application.
Curing
On completion of the grouting operation, the grout should beleft for air drying. However membrane curing agent or polythenesheet may be used to give an early surface protection fromprecipitation. But never cure the grout with water.
Cleaning
Conbextra HES should be removed from tools and equipmentwith clean water immediately after use. Cured material canbe removed mechanically, or with Reebaklens.
Conbextra® HES
Limitations
Low temperature working
When the air or contact surface temperatures are 100C or belowon a falling thermometer, the strength development may beslow.
Normal precautions for winter working with cementitiousmaterials should then be adopted.
High temperature working
At ambient temperatures above 350 C, cool water ( below 200C)should be used for mixing the grout prior to placement.Otherwise the pot life of the mixed material will be reduced.

Application instructions
Preparation
Foundation surface
The substrate surface must be free from oil, grease or anyloosely adherent material. If the concrete surface is defectiveor has laitence, it must be cut back to a sound base. Boltholes and fixing pockets must be blown clean of any dirt ordebris.
Pre-soaking
Several hours prior to placing, the area of cleaned foundationshould be flooded with fresh water. Immediately beforegrouting takes place, any free water should be removed.Particular care should be taken to blow out all bolt holes andpockets.
Base plate
It is essential that this is clean and free from oil, grease orscale. Air pressure relief holes should be provided to allowventing of any isolated high spots.
Levelling shims
If these are to be removed after the grout has hardened, theyshould be treated with a thin layer of grease.
Formwork
The formwork should be constructed to be leakproof asConbextra HF is a free flowing grout. This can be achievedby using foam rubber strip or mastic sealant beneath theconstructed formwork and between joints.
In some cases it is practical to use a sacrificial semi-drysand and cement formwork. The formwork should includeoutlets for pre-soaking.
The unrestrained surface area of the grout must be kept to aminimum. Generally the gap width between the perimeterformwork and the plate edge should not exceed 150mm onthe pouring side and 50mm on the opposite side. Thereshould be no gap at the flank sides.
Mixing
For best results a mechanically powered grout mixer shouldbe used. When quantities up to 50kg are used, a slow speeddrill fitted with a high shear mixer is suitable. Larger quantitieswill require a high shear vane mixer. Do not use a colloidalimpeller mixer.
It is essential that machine mixing capacity and labouravailability is adequate to enable the grouting operation to becarried out continuously. This may require the use of a holdingtank with provision for gentle agitation to maintain fluidity.
The selected water content should be accurately measuredinto the mixer. Slowly add the total contents of the ConbextraHF bag, mix continuously for 5 minutes, ensuring a smooth, even consistency is obtained.
Consistency of the mixed grout
To achieve the consistencies which are defined in CRD-C621,1989, the amount of clean water that is added to a 25kg bagat 300C is :

Continuous grout flow is essential.
Removable hopper : For large pours the grout may be handplaced or pumped into a removable hopper ( trough).
Sufficient grout must be available prior to starting and thetime taken to pour a batch must be regulated to the timetaken to prepare the next one.
The mixed grout should be poured only from one side of thevoid to eliminate the entrapment of air or surplus presoakingwater. This is best achieved by pouring the grout across theshortest distance of travel. The grout head must bemaintained at all times so that a continuous grout flow isachieved.Where large volumes hve to be placed ConbextraHF grout may be pumped. A heavy duty diaphragm pump isrecommended for this purpose. Screw feed and pistonpumps may also be suitable.

When the air or contact surface temperatures are 100C or belowon a falling thermometer, warm water (30-400C) isrecommended to accelerate strength development. For ambienttemperature below 100C the formwork should be kept in placefor at least 36 hours.
Normal precautions for winter working with cementitiousmaterials should then be adopted.
High temperature working
At ambient temperatures above 400C, cool water (below 200C)should be used for mixing the grout prior to placement.

Standards Compliance
Conbextra UW is tested using the appropriate sections of thefollowing specifications : BS 1881, BS 4550 & BS455.
Description
Conbextra UW is supplied as a ready to use dry powderrequiring only the addition of water to produce a free flowing, non shrink, grout material which exhibits exceptionalresistance to 'washing out' of the cement phase when placedin stationary or moving water. The material is a mixture ofspecially processed cement, with carefully graded fineaggregate. Additives impart controlled expansion, waterreduction and non washout characteristics. The aggregategrading is designed to aid uniform mixing, minimisesegregation and bleeding whilst assisting the flowcharacteristics.
Technical Support
The company provides a technical advisory service supportedby a team of specialists in the field.
Properties
Compressive strength : To simulate site conditions, compressive strength test cubes were cast under water andunder restraint. ( at 270C)
Compressive 1 day 3 days 7 days 28 daysstrength N/mm2 15 30 44 53
Adhesion to submerged concrete : To simulate siteconditions, direct tensile specimens were prepared underwater and under restraint. The specimens were curedsubmerged for 14 days at 300C at time of test. The tensilestrength of the substrate concrete was 3.1 N/mm2.
Density of hardened material : 2100 kg/m3.
Setting time : Dependent on temperature. Typical values (at300C) are as follows :
Initial Final
Setting time 4 hrs 5 hrs
Temperature limitation : Should not be applied below 50C.
Expansion characteristics : Controlled expansion occurs inthe unset material to ensure that the material when cured, will continue to occupy its original volume within the confinesof the void in which it was placed.
Specification clauses
Performance specification
All underwater grouting (specify details and areas ofapplication) must be carried out with a prepackaged cementbased product, which shall be mixed with water on site at aWater Powder ratio of 0.22. The grout must not bleed orsegregate, must be iron-free and chloride free. Expansion of1 - 4% shall occur while the grout is plastic by means of agaseous system. The grout shall contain special admixturesto minimise washout in underwater applications. Thecompressive strength of the grout must exceed 30 N/mm2 at7 days and 50N/mm2 at 28 days.
Conbextra® UW
The grout must be stored, handled and placed strictly inaccordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Supplier specification
All underwater grouting (specify details and areas ofapplication) must be carried out using Conbextra UWmanufactured by Fosroc Chemicals (I) Pvt. Ltd, applied strictlyin accordance with the manufacturer's technical data sheet.
Application instructions
Preparation
Substrate must be clean and sound. All loose material mustbe removed. Substrates which are permanently immersedshould be sand blasted or cleaned with a high pressurewater jet. Non-immersed or intermittently immersedsubstrates can also be prepared using these techniques.Depending on the circumstances, scabbling or bushhammering may be appropriate.
Inview of the fluid nature of Conbextra UW, all shuttering mustbe leakproof. This can be achieved using foam rubber sealingstrips at the edges.
Mixing
The quantity of water required to achieve a fluid consistencymust be accurately measured for each mix. Each 25 kg bagrequires 5.5 litres of water.
A mechanically powered mixer must be used. Ensure thatthe machine capacity and the number of operatives isadequate to enable grouting to be carried out as a continuousoperation.
Place the specified amount of water in the mixer. Slowly addthe contents of Conbextra UW pack, mixing continuously. When all contents are added, mix continuously for a minimumof 5 minutes making sure that a smooth, even mix is obtained.(Fluidity increases with increased mixing). Pass the mixedmaterial through a 5mm sieve to remove any lumps prior toplacing.
Important : The need to observe the accurate gauging ofwater addition and the stated mixing time should be stressedto all operatives and, wherever possible, included inspecifications.
Placing
Place the mixed material within 20 minutes of mixing to gainfull benefit of the expansion process. Continuous materialflow is required and the material should be poured or pumpedthrough a flexible tube, minimum diameter 50mm, to thelowest point in the form. At the start of the operation, thematerial flow should be restricted in order to avoid any waterentrapment. The bottom of the tube may be raised asnecessary to reduce any back pressure but should not beraised above the level of the material.
Application thickness
Conbextra UW may be placed in thicknesses upto 80mm inone pour when placed above water. When placed underwater, the heat sink effect in this environment permitsthicknesses upto 150mm to be placed. For thicker sectionsupto 200mm above water and 400mm under water, it isnecessary to fill out Conbextra UW using a clean, roundedand well graded aggregate in the size range 2mm upto 10mm.The quantity of aggregate added should not exceed 1 partaggregate to 1 part Conbextra UW by weight. For such mixesa concrete mixer must be used. Unrestrained surface areashould be kept to a minimum.
Curing
Curing will not be required in intermittently or totallysubmerged situations. However, when cast above water, allexposed surfaces should be thoroughly cured.
Cleaning
Because of its water resisting properties, equipment usedfor Conbextra UW will be harder to wash than with acementitious grout. Use of hot water greatly reduces thetime required for cleaning. Do not use hot water for mixingwith Conbextra UW.
