OBTAINING COMPULSORY QUALIFICATION IS GENERALLY A THREE-STEP PROCESS
STEP 1 EnrolmentTo obtain the vocational qualification you require to practise a regulated trade, you have to start by filing an application.
STEP 2 ApprenticeshipYou have to apprentice with an employer. If you are not yet employed, you have to be hired by an employer in order to take the apprenticeship program. Please note that you must carry a valid apprenticeship card at all times.
STEP 3 Qualification examinationMost apprenticeship programs include a qualification examination prepared and administered by Emploi-Québec.
FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES
Certificates are defined by type of work and equipment used, not by trade.
¢ Advantages: Greater employment possibilities for workers and
more flexibility for employers in terms of work organization.
The apprenticeship process requires on-the-job training, not just a total number of hours of practice or classroom training.
¢ Advantage: Apprentices who want to qualify for a certificate
are better prepared.
Classroom training can be taken part-time or in the form of distance training.
¢ Advantage: People can take training while working.
