We are delighted with our new outdoor gym equipment in the KS2 playground.
The children are enjoying using this during their break times—as well as
occasionally as part of an outdoor lesson. This has been funded by a grant from
Tesco’s as part of their Bags of Help campaign.
This equipment is only designed for older children. We therefore request that
children do not use it at all before or after school. Please could parents make
sure that their children do not climb on any of our play equipment when they
are with them. Thank you.
Our Year 6 children worked especially hard last week,
completing their SATS assessments. We are extremely proud of their
positive attitudes and determination to do their best and show off their
skills.
On Friday, we celebrated with a huge fruit fiesta—plus a few other
sweet treats! Well done Year 6!
Patrick Njue, a keen member of the school chess
club, ventured to Everest Community Academy to
compete in the very challenging Hampshire
Mega-final, the qualifying stage of the Delancey
UK Chess Challenge. Patrick played in the Under
8 section which was won by students of Dr Upham
from Yateley Manor School.
This was Patricks’ very first chess tournament outside of the school and so a
special mention should be made of that. Patrick took home a certificate of
achievement and experience of playing other children of a similar age. This is best
way to make progress.
Patrick scored two wins which almost (they needed four wins) qualified him for
the Gigafinal stage in Reading at the end of July : well done Patrick !
Other Lakeside children will be competing in the other Megafinals later in May and
we expect strong performances from them !

At Lakeside, we aspire to be caring, confident and capable
learners who are encouraged to succeed in today’s world.
Year 2 held a very special concert for parents, singing all
the songs learnt for the Surrey Heath Music Festival.
Children demonstrated their talents in a mixture of
song, dance and playing musical instruments! A big thank
you to Mrs Amlani for preparing and organising a group
Bhangra dance based on the Spring Kite Festival held in
the Indian sub-continent.

On Friday 28th April, Year 1 went on a wild adventure to Marwell Zoo. We had a
wonderful time and got to see lots of different animals. We started off with
zebras, rhinos and snow leopards, before heading off towards the gazelles, black
macaque and the red pandas . Our next stop was lunch by the tigers.
After our delicious packed lunches, which the birds wanted to share, we headed
off to the meercats who were out enjoying the sunshine and were very funny to
watch. Our next major (and rather exciting) stop was the Giraffe House to meet
Isabella, our adopted giraffe. We were very lucky when we arrived to find that
the giraffes were just being fed and were all inside enjoying their late lunch. We
used our detective skills to identify Isabella from a photo. Amazingly, she was
the giraffe right in front of us, using her long tongue and neck to reach some
scrummy leaves. This was fascinating to watch and provided us with a real high-
light of our trip. On our way out we spotted our name on the adoption poster. As
our day came to an end, we finished off with Penguin Cove, where the penguins
entertained us with their underwater acrobatics. We really enjoyed our day at
the zoo and it really helped bring our topic to life.
Here is Isabella, the giraffe which Year 1
sponsors.
