Year 2 Trip to the
Great Central Railway
On Thursday 6th June, Year 2 experienced travelling on a steam train!
We found out what it was like to be a holidaymaker in Victorian times.
We met Peter, the station master, who gave us a safety talk. Then we
waited in anticipation for the train to arrive. We boarded the train and the
guide told us all about how the train works. We even got to handle a
piece of coal that helps to power the train. We enjoyed talking to the
fireman, whose job it is to make sure there is enough coal to create the
steam. Some of the children even got to try on his hat.
A huge thank you to the parent helpers who accompanied us on the day.
Premises Assistant (Level 2) Vacancy at Kestrels’ FieldWe are seeking to appoint a pro-active, self-motivated, reliable Premises Assistant who takes pride
in a clean and well-presented building, to join the Kestrels’ team.
For further information, please go to www.eteach.com and search for ‘Premises Assistant’. The
deadline date for applications is Monday 24th June.
REMINDER FOR THE SUMMER FAIRJunior children will need to be collected at 3pm from the Infants. They will need collecting from
their partner class. For example, 19 Dove will be collected from 7 Dove (please ask your class
teacher if unsure).
Due to building work, all of Year 2 and Year 6 will be collected from the Nursery.
If you are unable to collect your Junior children at 3pm, we will happily keep the children altogether
in the hall until 3.20pm (the usual end of the day time at the Juniors).
Saffron Athletics Competition32 children from Year 4-6 went to the Saffron
Athletics competition on Thursday 6th June and
competed against 29 different schools from across
East Leicester! Well done to all those who took part,
showing #compassion and #resilience. A special
congratulations to Maria who won a bronze medal
for the Year 4 Howler Throw and Ella who won a
gold medal for the Year 6 Girls 50m! Go girls!
Fantastic work everyone!
Leicester Outdoor Pursuits CentreYear 3 have been on an amazing trip to the Outdoor Pursuit Centre to learn all about what is was like living
in the Stone Age years. We took part in archery and learnt about how bows and arrows were made and
what they were used for. We also built a shelter from branches and leaves and learnt how to create a fire
using flint and steel. The experience was great and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Twycross ZooOn Monday, Year 1 visited Twycross Zoo. Upon arrival we visited
the Discovery Centre and took part in a Habitats and Adaption
Workshop. We looked at the different animal habitats from desserts
to rainforests and thought about how different animals were best
suited to those climates. Lots of the Year 1 children were brave
enough to stroke a cockroach and bearded dragon too!
We loved visiting the zebras, rhinos, monkeys, giraffes, kangaroos,
penguins, flamingos, meerkats, butterflies, parrots and many more
amazing animals.
It was an amazing experience for us all! Thank you to all the parent
volunteers for coming along to support us.
