What is a direct object?

In the following sentence, identify the subject, the verb, and the direct object.

She wants the pizza.Subject + verb + direct object

The direct object is the thing/person that receives the action of the verb.

To find the direct object in the sentence, you can ask…”what does she want?” Answer = pizza. This is the direct object.
