Competition Based Learning
Competition Based Learning (CnBL) is a methodology where learning is achieved through a competition, but the learning result is independent of the student's score in such competition. Wining the competition is not the main objective, the achievement of learning outcomes is. The CnBL by itself is not very useful. Combination with project based learning (PjBL), problem based learning (PBL) and cooperative learning (CL) will give a significant improvement to the students’ learning (Burguillo, 2010)
ExperimentIntroduced in Intelligent Urban Transport
Management System (IUTMS) course in student 2011-2012 cohort
The students were required to propose an IUTMS design for Kajang
Team work, consists of three personsEach and every group has to present
their design in front of all other studentsTheir counterparts rated their proposal
using Audience Response System (ARS)

Students’ feedback CnBL in combination with PjBL
creates excitement among the students
CnBL in combination with PjBL create more intense collaboration among the students in a group .
They worked harder to gain new knowledge and skills to outperform other groups
ConclusionsProject Based Learning (PjBL) is
more effective if it is combined with Competition Based Learning (CnBL).
The CnBL create excitement, closer collaboration within group member and stronger eagerness to learn among the students.
The end result is better course learning outcomes
