1-Syllable adjectives

• To form the comparative add –er Short-shorter

Fast- Faster Small- smaller

Nice- nicer• If the adjective ends in 1 vowel + 1

consonant, double the consonant:Big- bigger Thin- Thinner

2-Syllable adjectives -y

• To make the comparative drop the –y and add –ier

Happy-happierFriendly-friendlier

• When you compare two things we sometimes use THAN

E.G. My brother is younger than yours Mark is more intelligent

than Jim You are funnier than me
