Besides, it was designed to be a promoter for industrial growth in some regions of country. It was also engaged in the task of developing indigenous expertise for setting up large newsprint and paper mills. Over a period of three decades, HPC has built up a total capacity of about 3.35 lakh tonnes of paper and newsprint.

ITC was incorporated on August 24, 1910 under the name Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited which was was changed from Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited to India Tobacco Company Limited in 1970 and then to I.T.C. Limited in 1974. In recognition of the Company's multi-business portfolio encompassing a wide range of businesses - Fast Moving Consumer Goods comprising Foods, Personal Care, Cigarettes and Cigars, Branded Apparel, Education and Stationery Products, Incense Sticks and Safety Matches, Hotels, Paperboards & Specialty Papers, Packaging, Agri-Business and Information Technology. . Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills, which is now an International Paper company, is one of the biggest integrated paper and pulp manufacturing centres in India. The company produces indispensable writing, printing and copier papers for foreign and domestic markets. It employs around 2,500 employees and is headquartered in Hyderabad. Andhra Papers was established as Carnatic Paper Mills Ltd in 1920. Andhra Pradesh Paper Mill’s production facilities are comprised of two mills in Rajahmundry and Kadiam with a total production capacity of 2,40,000 TPA. The company is becoming a driving force in sustainable development in the paper manufacturing industry through focused social and community programs. APPM has been involved in community development work since its inception, but it was only in the year 1995 that the concept of strengthening its relations with the local stakeholders gained momentum. After its acquisition by International Paper and as a part of aligning processes towards International paper’s global focus areas in community development, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was reinforced in a more structured way. Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT)

The company has 6 units, together with a capacity of 480,000 tonnes and a pulp mill of capacity 100,000 tonnes manufacturing rayon grade pulp, in the state of Andhra Pradesh (Kamlapuram Unit). BILT is expanding its production capacity in both coated and non-coated paper, to take it to around 1.0 million tonnes. The company announced to increase the capacity of its coated

wood free paper unit at Bhigwan in Pune by adding 190,000 tonnes. After the expansion, the total unit capacity would increase to 315,000 tonnes. In July 2007, the company also initiated a restructuring plan, under which it would transfer 3 manufacturing units at Bhigwan, Ballarpur and Kamalapuram, to a separate company called BILT Graphic Paper Products, which would be transferred to Ballarpur Paper Holdings BV (BPH) after court approval. By this exercise, the company would transfer its commodity business, which is capital-intensive and would focus on the speciality and consumer-focused products business.
