WELCOME TO SUNSET AFFAIR: KALEIDOSCOPE

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to be serving as the Honorary Chair of Sunset Affair: Kaleidoscope. Como Park Zoo and Conservatory holds a special place in my heart. I bring my grandkids to Como and love to see how excited and engaged they are when they encounter the giraffes and gorillas up close or see the cool bromeliads in the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. Most important is the time we spend together and the cherished memories being made. Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is like nowhere else. We are so lucky to have this unique, free-admission oasis right here in our backyard.

Tonight, I encourage you to experience the kaleidoscope of people, plants and animals that make Como Park Zoo and Conservatory an ever-changing destination. Talk with a zookeeper or gardener, visit with the Nature Walk teen conservation volunteers, interact with the animal ambassadors —and stroll to see orangutans, flamingos, and the Como Harbor construction progress.

Your generous gifts toward our Special Giving Opportunity will support a home-makeover for the Aquatic Animals Building and your bids on silent auction items will help provide our two million annual visitors multifaceted education programs, animal encounters and amazing gardens—all for free, every day of the year.

Enjoy Sunset Affair!

WAYS TO SUPPORT COMO FRIENDS’ Special Giving Opportunity

The Sunset Affair Special Giving Opportunity is helping to fund an extreme “home make-over” of Como’s historic Aquatic Animals Building to improve the experience for Como Zoo's visitors.

This floor-to-ceiling renovation will turn the Aquatic Animals Building into an immersive marine experience with engaging habitats designed to bring young visitors face-to-face with puffins, penguins and even a giant Pacific octopus, and inviting new spaces for families and school groups to learn more about the connections between humans, oceans and animals.

This high-impact renovation will include:

An imaginative “research submarine” that will invite young visitors to dive into an aquatic world and get up close to a giant Pacific octopus

A bubble window that will allow children to feel as though they’re underwater with Como’s penguins

Pop-up viewing tanks that encourage kids to crawl into the center of a 360-degree shark or ray habitat

Micro-environments made to reflect a Hawaiian reef and a mangrove forest, teaching visitors about the variety of life in the earth’s oceans

An amphibian conservation station to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at Como’s species conservation projects to protect endangered frogs and toads

Ocean-inspired design with sea-colored flooring, water-themed ceiling treatments, and a wide-open floor plan for better viewing

You can make it happen. Please support our Special Giving Opportunity.

If you would like to donate to our Special Giving Opportunity, you can mail it prior to Sunset Affair to Como Friends, 1225 Estabrook Drive, Saint Paul, MN 55103, go online to comofriends.org/sunsetaffairgiving, or make a contribution the evening of the event. During a short program at dinner, your Sunset Affair room host will tell you more about how your support will benefit Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.

Our goal is to inspire every guest at Sunset Affair to help make a difference at Como.

Thank you!
