Community YouthMapping a Community YouthMapping Background The Community YouthMapping (CYM) effort is a catalyst for motivating youth and adults to identify existing resources as well as to create and expand new opportunities. Families and Communities Together (FACT), Seminole County’s System of Care, contracted with FHI 360 Center for Youth Development and Engagement, Washington, DC to provide CYM consultation and support. CYM of Seminole County includes a 7-week summer leadership development program and project for high school youth aged 16-19 residing in Seminole County. CYM of Seminole equipped and then sent 48 youth out in teams to canvass all the resources within the County that are currently available. Purpose The purpose of CYM of Seminole County includes: n Provide leadership opportunities to youth. n Create a comprehensive list of services, activities, and opportunities available to youth in Seminole County. n Build a positive information infrastructure. n Provide access to technology that makes CYM information easily accessible to everyone. n Conduct a gap analysis once all data is collected to identify where there may be gaps in resources. Seminole County System of Care will work to fill any gaps in available resources while ensuring all resources utilize a youth-guided approach in developing, providing and evaluating services and supports. Once complete, the CYM database will provide data analysis that can highlight resources and service gaps existing block by block or mile by mile in Seminole County. Young people work together to learn their roles and responsibilities. Community No one individual, organization or sector owns the data. The community owns the data and is updated and maintained by the Children’s Cabinet of Seminole County, a local children’s services coordinating partnership.
