Relocating Within LMHCamp Lejeune: Heroes Manor

Lincoln Military Housing (and its parent company, Lincoln Property Company) offer a wide selection of housing for service members and their families. Each month a district will be featured so that you can learn more about what Lincoln has to offer within its communities across the United States.

Camp Lejeune (North Carolina) is home to the largest Marine Corps Base on the East Coast. Less than three hours away from the state capital of Raleigh, Camp Lejeune is nestled between the popular tourist destina-tions of the Crystal Coast and Topsail Beach.

Heroes Manor serves E1 to E5 and is our flagship community. This newly-built neighborhood offers three and four bedroom homes, totaling 560 homes, 31 of which are ADA accessible. Each home includes TOLI wood grain flooring on lower levels and plush carpeting upstairs. Oversized family rooms and sun-filled living spaces are staples in each floor plan. Kitchens are equipped with black energy star appliances, granite counter-tops, and solid wood cabinets. All homes have full-sized laundry rooms with utility sinks and storage areas, along with ample closet space throughout. Each home has an attached two car automatic garage, private fenced yard, and screened backyard patio. There is a two-pet maximum for either cats or dogs.

Neighborhood amenities include 24-hour emergency maintenance with Lincoln At Your Service (LAYS) 888-578-4141, free lock-out service, playgrounds, a state-of-the-art clubhouse (with kids’ playroom, a zero grade entry pool and fitness center), walking trails with exercise stations, a dog park called Bark Park, a soccer field, and free community events.

The dynamic Community Services department has a mission: “To im-prove the quality of life for our military residents through programs designed to strengthen personal connections between neighbors and to partner with like-minded local organizations to support this goal”.

To learn more about this fantastic community, contact Tim Ferner, Dis-trict Manager at [email protected] or call the District Office at 910-355-0112.

Recipe Corner: Halloween Fruit Apple Teeth Treats

Recipe and photo courtesy of www.allrecipes.com Prep Time: 15 minutes Ready in: 15 minutesIngredients:4 Honeycrisp apples - cored and quartered 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional) 1 (2.25 ounce) package blanched slivered almonds

Directions:With a small, sharp paring knife, cut a lengthwise wedge from the skin side of each apple quarter, leav-ing the peel around the wedge for lips. If desired, rub the cut portions of the apple quarters with lemon juice to prevent browning. Poke 5 or 6 slivered al-monds into the top and bottom of the cut-out area to make snaggly teeth.

October: Trick or Treat Safety tips• Have each child carry or wear something lit, such as a flashlight, glow bracelet or necklace,

or flashing attire for visibility. Light-up shoes are also practical, and ever-so-noticeable on a dark Halloween night.

• Adults should plan out a route in advance and check it during the daylight for such obstacles that could trip up youngsters. Trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods or areas.

• Obey the law. Encourage your kids to follow all the regular rules for walking around. That includes looking both ways before crossing, obeying all traffic laws and using cross walks and crossing lights where available.

• There is safety in numbers. If they’re old enough to trick-or-treat without an adult, tell your kids to stay in a group. • Avoid costumes that drag on the ground. While cute initially, costumes that drag can trip up little feet, get caught on

bushes, and create a tussle that sometimes results in the child wanting to remove the costume. • Pick costumes that are bathroom-friendly as well. Parents should pre-plan a bathroom stop along the way.• Be sure a child’s mask allows full visibility and breathing. Some masks only have small eye slits and nothing for the nose

or mouth. Parents should try on masks for size and not hesitate to cut out larger openings for a trick or treater’s comfort. Children also enjoy wearing makeup - try this instead of masks.

• Trick or treaters should walk, not run, and should never cut across lawns or driveways. Obstacles could exist that aren’t readily visible in the evening.

• Only trick or treat at houses that are lit. Residents who do not wish to be bothered by trick or treaters often leave off their lights as a sign; respect their preference.

• Think “practical” over “cute” when picking a trick or treat goody bag or container. Some of seemingly-fun ones sold in stores are heavy--before any treats are added; others are too long and will drag the ground or have sharp edges that could scrape against tender skin.

• Keep track of time and don’t trick or treat after 9:00 p.m. That allows ample time for children to trick or treat, and by then, the excitement of the evening and the candy/treats means little ghouls will be tired, anyhow.

• Candy has a shelf life and can go bad—especially if it’s made of chocolate. Check all dates on candy before allowing youngsters to eat it. Also, don’t let your kid munch the treats while they’re out. You want to look at everything before they eat it. Toss anything that’s open or homemade.

And the most important tip ... Have a great time! Make sure your kids have tons of fun and get lots and lots of candy!!!!!!!!
