PEER SUPPORTWHO IS IT FOR?CAN I COME TO PEER SUPPORT?

Community Living Well Peer Support is available to:• people over 16• who are registered with a GP in Kensington and

Chelsea, Queen's Park or Paddington areas of Westminster

• who have experienced or are affected by depression or other mental health difficulties

• whose mental health care is being looked after by primary care general practice services

• or to the carers of those who satisfy the above.

We can also take referrals for people transitioning from secondary mental health services through the Community Living Well Primary Care Liaison Nurse team.

CAN PEER SUPPORT HELP ME?

Peer Support can help you to feel less isolated and increase your confidence. It gives you a chance to gain knowledge about your mental health and to get or give support and talk to others who can empathise through a shared experience.

Peer Support offers peer co-facilitated activities which focus on your strengths, hopes and ambitions and can help you develop skills and strategies to self manage and maintain your emotional and physical wellbeing.

Peer support can help you through:• feeling accepted by others who share your

experience• developing and sharing skills• reducing feelings of isolation• building confidence and emotional resilience• building new relationships

Types of peer support

One-to-one Peer SupportMeet with a peer, talk through emotional challenges and share coping suggestions.

Peer Support GroupsStructured self help peer support groups, co-facilitated by a peer, bringing people together who can share their experience.

Living Well WorkshopsOur workshops aim to help you understand different topics and learn new things.

Timebank Peer SupportThe timebank is a network of peers who support each other using time as if it were currency.

Social Peer SupportSocial groups are a great way to meet like-minded people in a safe and supportive environment.

Do you need additional support to improve your mental health? and wellbeing?If you are 16 or over or caring for someone who is then Community Living Well is a new service that offers you a different kind of support for your mental health needs.

It brings people together from your local community groups, NHS and the voluntary sector in one service which will work alongside you and your GP to help you access the support you need.

Other CLW wellbeing services :

Community Living Well offers easy access to a range of wellbeing and clinical services in one place, including:

• Employment – Advice, guidance and support to gain or retain paid employment, improve employability skills and know your rights in the workplace

• Navigation – Practical support with a range of issues, including benefits and debt; support to access specialist advice and information and to take steps to improve your wellbeing

• Self-Care – An approach to health and wellbeing which helps to keep yourself well

Clinical Services:

• Psychological Therapies – a range of support for when you experience difficult emotions, such as low mood, worry and stress. It can also support individuals who are adjusting to having a new baby or those who need help to live with a long term condition

• Mother Tongue Counselling – culturally appropriate one-to-one talking therapies and wellbeing workshops in Arabic & Farsi • Primary Care Liaison – Extra structured

Anxiety & Depression Self-Help Support GroupStructured self-help peer support groups aim to bring people together who can share their experiences. It’s your chance to talk without being judged, an opportunity to learn about how others in similar situations manage their symptoms (which you can try yourself) and connect with people who know what it’s like to feel the way you do. To find out if there is space in the group, please get in touch with Liam.

Art for Wellbeing - KC Mind Skills Development Service, 10 Acklam Rd, W10 5QZThis month's Art for Wellbeing will be a 'Pick and Mix' session that will include mosaic coaster tile making, wire art portraits, mindful colouring, canvas paintings and more.

City Walkers6th July - Join us for a walk around Richmond Park! We will soak up the sights of the Isabella Plantation, King Henry's Mound, St Paul's Cathedral and of course the many deer! We will also be treated to a stunning view from Terrace Gardens as we make our way to Richmond station (where the walk will finish). We will set off from Putney Bridge Station at 2.15pm and get the bus to the park entrance.

20th July - Join us for a walk in the breathtakingly beautiful Fulham Palace Gardens! We will take in and admire the River Thames, walled gardens and Bishop's Park! Meet outside Putney Bridge Station at 2pm.

24th July - Join us for an evening stroll along the River Thames, where we will take in the spectacular sights of the London Eye and Southbank. Meet outside Embankment station (by the exit facing the river) at 6.30pm.

Coffee Break - Wholefoods, 63 Kensington High Street (1st Floor Cafe/Restaurant)Connect with others over a weekly coffee or refreshment. We encourage a warm and welcoming environment. Meet others who share similar experiences in a relaxed way, with no pressure on you.

Concert: Helen Glaisher-Hernandez - St-Martin-in-the-Fields Trafalgar Square, WC2N 4JJJoin us for a concert in Trafalgar Square which will include a mixture of classical and Latin music on the piano. Helen will cover a range of pieces from Bach’s Toccata & Fugue in D Minor to Piazzolla’s Siciliana. We will meet outside the front entrance of St Martins-in-the-Fields at 12.30pm. The concert will last an hour and afterwards there will be an opportunity for a coffee and a chat.

Crafts for Wellbeing - Venue to be confirmed Crafting is known to be good for our health. It can create a calming and positive sense of wellbeing which contributes to alleviating depression and encouraging mindfulness. Our crafts group is a great way for you to express yourself creatively as well as meet new people and we have an array of materials for you to work with.

Emotional Freedom Technique Workshop, St Charles Centre for Health and WellbeingPernille returns to run an EFT workshop revolving around tapping and will feature a mixture of meditations and gentle energy exercises. If you would like to attend, please contact Stuart as places are limited.

Film Club - Kensington and Chelsea Mind, 7 Thorpe Close, Ladbroke Grove W10 5XLOur next edition of Film Club will be a viewing of the award-winning film 'The Artist'. The movie depicts the story of a silent movie superstar who experiences symptoms of depression after his career takes a downward turn due to the invention of sound in films. Watch the story develop as his support network (including Jack the dog!) rally around him. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided, plus there will be a chance to chat about the movie afterwards. If you would like to attend, please contact Stuart as places are limited.

Meal Out: Kung Fu: Oriental Buffet Restaurant - 180-184 Earls Court Road, London SW5 9OGJoin us for a meal at the Kung Fu Restaurant, which serves a mixture of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. We will subsidise the cost of each person's meal by £6. Please let Whitney know in advance to book your place.

Peer Support Activity A-Z

Mindful Jewellery - KC Mind Skills Development Service, 10 Acklam Rd, W10 5QZJoin us this month for a guided session in cord leather bracelet making. These bracelets are fun and easy to make and look great on both women and men. All materials will be included and anything you make will be yours to keep. If you would like to attend, please contact Whitney.

Monday Community Hub - St. Peter's Church (Kensington Park Road, Notting Hill,The hubs include both social activities and drop-in peer support which are co-facilitated by a peer worker, someone who can use their own experience of mental health difficulties to support you amongst your peers. Mondays include Community Cooking: Share your favourite meal with others. Cooking is taken in turns (if you would like to give it a go). We Love to Sing: You can also come and sing with us. Group singing is very enjoyable and can have a positive effect on our wellbeing and mood.

Music & Wellbeing - Royal College of Music, Prince Consort Rd, Kensington SW7 2BSCome and join us for our next classical music treat at the Royal College of Music! Simon Channing leads the RCM Wind Ensemble in a delightful concert of works for woodwind. Opening with an arrangement of the overture to Mozart’s celebrated opera bouffe Così fan tutte, the programme includes Françaix’s Hommage à l’ami Papagen. We will meet from 6.45pm in the reception area of the Amaryllis Flemming Concert Hall.

One-to-one peer supportOne-to-one peer support means you can talk to someone who can use their own experience of mental health difficulties and put themselves in your shoes. It is an opportunity to be open about your mental health in a safe and comfortable space. To attend, you will need to arrange a session with Liam in advance.

Park Life07/07/18 - Join us for a Saturday stroll as we take an amble in Hyde Park and around the Serpentine lake! Meet outside the Queensway tube exit at 2.15pm.

19/07/18 - Join us for a walk in St James's Park! This really will be a scenic delight, with sights including a lake, mini-cottage, flowers, pelicans and more! Meet outside St James's Park Station (Petty France exit) at 6pm.

27/07/18 - Join us for a wander around the Japanese Garden in Holland Park, which has an abundance of koi carp, peacocks and bonsai trees! Meet at Holland Park Cafe (in the middle of the park) at 2pm.

Stay Calm: Lunchtime Meditation + Coffee - The West London Buddhist Centre, Royal Oak House, 45A Porchester Rd, W2 5DPJoin Whitney for a 1-hour lunchtime meditation session at The West London Buddhist Centre, which will provide attendees with a space to relax and calm their minds. On the day, please meet within The West London Buddhist Centre at 12:45pm to begin the meditation at 1.00pm.

Tate Modern: In the Studio Tour + Coffee - Bankside SE1 9TGJoin us for a 50 minute tour of the Tate collection highlights, led by the galleries' expert guides. We will look at a range of pieces and explore the artist’s intentions behind their work as well as the viewer's experience.

Time Banking, Mind Centre, 7 Thorpe Close, Kensington W10 5XLThe Portobello Green Time Bank is a network of peers who support each other, using time like currency. For instance, you may support a person for one hour to go shopping. In doing so you have earned one hour which you can use to request support for yourself. V&A Exhibition: The Future Starts Here + Cofee - Cromwell Road, Knighstbridge SW7 2RLJoin us at the V&A Museum for "The Future Starts Here" exhibition. From smart appliances to satellites, artificial intelligence to internet culture, this exhibition brings together more than 100 objects as a landscape of possibilities for the near future.
