Winners of the 2018 Community Initiative Award
Do you know someone who makes your community a safer place? Or maybe you are involved in a community or school group that is making a difference through a crime prevention or community safety program? Up to $1,000 in prize money is on offer through the City of Gosnells Safe City Awards, which honour individuals and groups working in the area of community safety. Nominated projects must have been run during the past year.
Community Initiative AwardThis award recognises projects that:
• promote community safety• involve reducing the fear of crime in
the community• encourage residents, community groups and
government agencies to work together• help improve important aspects of
our society (for example schools and sports grounds)
• meet the needs of different age groups such as youth or seniors.
Who is eligible?
Individuals, organisations or groups within the City of Gosnells that are actively involved in new and existing crime prevention or community safety programs. This category is open to anyone promoting or supporting a safer City of Gosnells.
Prize: $1,000 and plaque.
Constable Peter Ball Memorial Youth AwardCreated in 1999 in honour of Constable Peter Ball who lived and worked in Gosnells and died in the line of duty.
This award aims to recognise young people, youth groups or organisations that have:
• improved safety or promoted the prevention of crime
• enhanced the profile of young people• increased opportunities for young people.
Who is eligible?
A young person or group of young people aged 12 to 25 living in the City of Gosnells, or not-for-profit organisations or groups supporting youth activities in the City.
Prize: $1,000 and plaque.
Community Kids AwardEncourages primary schools to develop or take part in projects contributing to the safety and security of their school, community or environment. This award recognises recognises children’s unique problem solving abilities towards traditional community problems.
Who is eligible?
Nominations are open to primary schools or individual classes in the City of Gosnells, which develop projects to make their neighbourhoods better places to live, work and play.These could include:• programs addressing safety in and
around schools• community respect programs• conservation and environmental programs
enhancing the physical environment of the school.
Prizes: 1st place – $1,000 and plaque 2nd place – $800 and certificate 3rd place – $700 and certificate
