Community Health Worker Survey
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), in partnershipwith CPCA seeks to improve the health of all Californians andrecognizes the best practice support by adding CHWs to the healthsystem team base to improve diabetes and high blood pressure
control. Please take approximately 10 minutes to complete thisimportant survey. The survey findings will provide essential data todetermine what type of support; training and technical assistance isneeded to enhance the skills of Community Health Workersstatewide and further coordination of improved community clinicallinkages for the benefit of patients with diabetes and high bloodpressure. Zika Virus Updates
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have routineupdates to new information about Zika virus in the United States.
New Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Questions:Information for Patients
This new resource pamphlet was developed as a companion forhealth centers asking their patients' sexual orientation and genderidentity. This handout walks patients through why they are beingasked these questions and what all of the answer options mean.Patients will be guided on how to choose the best answer, as wellas what to do if they do not want to answer these questions. Thereis also information for patients about why this information isimportant to the health center, and what will be done with theanswers to these questions.
Preliminary Soda Tax Results Released
According to a recently released study, a perounce tax on sugarydrinks, implemented by the city of Berkeley, California, significantlyimpacted the rate of soda consumption in the city. The $0.01 perliquid ounce tax on soda and other sugarsweetened beverages,which was implemented in March 2015, reportedly reducedconsumption by 21% in lowincome neighborhoods. Furthermore, thestudy found that the Berkeley residents reported drinking morewater. Berkley was the first city in the United States to pass a sodatax. Several other American cities are putting similar taxes on theballot this fall. Among these cities are Oakland, Albany and SanFrancisco.

2016 CPCA Salary Survey NOW OPEN! Due September 23rd
Once again, CPCA is conducting its annual salary survey tounderstand the statewide context of health center compensationmodels in California. The online survey tool is now open and emails
containing the link and organizational passwords were sent onFriday, August 26th by Gallagher Surveys. Please submit yourresponses by September 23rd. As a survey participant, you willreceive a complimentary copy of the statewide report, in addition toan individualized report comparing your data to the whole sampleand your region. Please contact Nataly Diaz with questions. Also,visit the CPCA Salary Survey webpage and attend our September7th webinar to learn about the survey tool.

Presentation Opportunity at the 2017 Western Forum for Migrantand Community Health
The Northwest Regional Primary Care Association (NRPCA) isrequesting abstract submissions to present at the 2017 WesternForum for Migrant and Community Health in San Francisco, CA fromFebruary 2224, 2017. The Forum will provide education andtraining, information and resource sharing, coalition building, andprogram and policy development for likeminded community healthprofessionals and their partners. The deadline to submit an abstractis September 16. Notifications of selected abstracts will be sent, viaemail, in early November.

Three Sponsored Bills Head to the Governor’s Desk!
Three bills sponsored by CaliforniaHealth+ Advocates are heading tothe Governor’s desk this week after passing through the arduouslegislative process and being approved by both the State Assemblyand State Senate. The Governor has until Sept. 30 to act on thebills, which are detailed below. This significant accomplishment forCalifornia’s community health centers would not have been possiblewithout your active support.
