HERE’S a timber framing messaging campaign with real faces delivering a real message.

Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are putting immense pressure on Aussie jobs, businesses and livelihoods.

This is especially poignant now with the second wave of contagion and associated lockdown in Victoria.

In response, Australia’s softwood timber processing industry has deployed a 'Buy Aussie Timber First' messaging campaign which focuses on why buying Aussie timber framing is so important at this crucial time.

Australian Forest Products Association campaign spokesperson Gavin Matthew says Aussie timber is a proven and popular renewable framing material that provides comfort and security for hundreds

of thousands of Australian homes.

“When Aussie timber framing is manufactured today, it’s replanted for tomorrow, supporting a whole supply chain of jobs and communities. That’s why it’s the ultimate renewable framing material.”

The new campaign centrepiece is a website www.buyaussietimberfirst.com.au which is packed with testimonials and photos from Aussie timber workers and is supported by broad digital and print media assets.

The campaign asks that the whole Aussie

supply chain, including forest growers, plantation owners, harvest and haulage suppliers, value add timber manufacturers, wholesalers, merchants and fabricators, gets behind the message and makes conscious and supportive purchase decisions.

“Ideally that support, besides uploading your photo onto the campaign website,

gives preference to Aussie pine framing in your businesses,” Mr Matthew said.

“We’re not expecting 100% local purchase decisions, but during these difficult times every extra order that can be placed with a local sawmiller or timber manufacturer benefits more of your fellow Aussie workers.

“Additionally, it helps secure a more resilient local

supply chain into the future, so that local timber supply will be there for everyone while we are recovering from Covid-19.”

The campaign is a proud example of industry collaboration in a crisis, with domestic softwood timber sawmillers standing together and investing in the development and communication of this

SOUTH West Greens MLC Diane Evers is expected to introduce a bill into the Western Australian parliament to ban native logging and wind up the state’s Forest Products Commission.

The peak body for the state’s forestry industry has slammed the proposal as “absurd” and “ill thought-out”.

Ms Evers, who is the Greens spokeswoman for forestry, said it was something that needed to be looked at as a matter of urgency to protect native forests for future generations.

“This is something we need to do – we need to do it now,” she said.

“What we really need to be doing is putting much more of our land into plantations and over time those plantations will deliver much more in terms of growth for the state.”

The move comes after years of lobbying by the Victorian Greens, ending with a decision by the Andrews government to phase out native logging by 2030 starting from November this year.

Deputy executive officer of the Forest Industries Federation WA Matt Granger said while there was room for other vibrant industries in Western Australia, it was “naive” to suggest that they could not operate alongside the timber industry.

“You can have your vibrant tourism, honey sectors and you can have your

sustainable, renewable regrowth forest-based operations,” he said “It’s a dumb idea that you can have either this or that,” he said.

“Really, for vibrant, healthy communities and economies you want to grab hold of as many diverse economic activities as you can.”

Mr Granger said it was a “remarkably insensitive” debate to be having at a time when the WA economy was struggling with the economic fall-out of Covid-19.

According to a report from WA industry bodies,

including the Forest Industry Federation, more than 2000 direct jobs were created by the forestry industry and another 2400 indirect jobs.

Since then, the industry has grown, with a Queensland company committing to upgrade processing facilities at Nannup and Greenbushes and opening up a moth-balled facility at Manjimup.

Shire of Manjimup president Paul Omedei said native logging had been a part of West Australian society since the beginning and it was still going strong today.

“We still have about six small sawmills and a major part of our industry is the native thinnings from the native forests and also the blue gum chip logs that go to the production of paper,” he said.

“Moves to end logging are ill-considered and regressive. I know the Greens need votes … but they really need to adopt a common sense approach.”

In a statement, WA Forestry Minister Dave Kelly said most native forests were not available to be harvested, including all old growth forests in the state.

“The Forests Product Commission has access to 38% of our native forest estate, and this excludes all old-growth forest and annually harvests less than 1% of this allocation,” Mr Kelly said.

Builders calls for budget $billions tokick-start jobs in construction sectorAUSTRALIA’S peak voice for the $220 billion building and construction industry is calling for billions in stimulus measures in the October federal Budget to support the building and construction industry through the devastating demand shock that is forecast to hit in 2020-2021.

“CommunityBuilder is a new stimulus measure we are calling for that would employ the highly successful HomeBuilder model to kick-start work for the thousands of SME commercial

construction businesses that employ hundreds of thousands of tradies around the country,” CEO Denita Wawn said.

“Our modelling suggests that an investment of $3.8 billion will deliver a boost of $6.8 billion to GDP and create 13,000 new jobs,” she said.

“A 12 month extension of HomeBuilder will boost GDP by between nearly $4 billion and $4.5 billion, create more than 4500 new jobs and result in up to 6200 new dwelling starts.

“Our call for these measures is backed up by our latest forecasts which show the sheer scale of the challenge our industry faces.”

Mrs Warn says despite the positive impact of the highly effective HomeBuilder grants, MBA has downgraded its forecast for the housing sector by 25% for 2020-21, now predicting a 27% fall in home building activity compared to 2019-20

“Commercial construction activity is forecast to slump by 17%,” she said. “You will not see many cranes in the sky, and it will mean that thousands of businesses are at risk of simply exiting the industry along with the thousands of jobs that they provide,” she said.

“Our industry is facing a bloodbath; there is simply no other way to describe it. Private sector investment is evaporating, and the

THE timber engineering industry on both sides of the Tasman has been shocked by the sudden death of Gary Caulfield, CEO of XLam in New Zealand last Friday.

His contribution to the Australasian construction sector over the last 16 years has been enormous. His tireless drive to reimagine design, procurement and construction always with a view of embracing offsite fabrication, improving safety, increasing productivity and reducing risk was respected and admired by all who had the privilege of working with him.

XLam would not be the organisation it is today without the transformational leadership and energy of Gary Caulfield.

Mr Caulfield has more than 30 years’ experience in the commercial construction industry across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. For the last 12 he was based

in New Zealand working within the pre-fabrication

sector. Past chair of PrefabNZ, he was involved in the majority of New Zealand’s pre-fabrication projects.

“We will always be grateful for the contribution Gary made to our business and the wider mass timber construction sector,” XLam’s Sean Bull said.

“Gary was a great man and wonderful personality. He will be sorely missed by his immediate family, his XLam family and his wider construction family.”

If you are considering a way to celebrate, recognise or remember Gary the family asks that you consider making a donation to Mates in Construction in his memory.

Mr Caulfield is survived by his wife Fiona and son David.

government must step in to save businesses and jobs.

“Residential and commercial construction respectively have the second and third largest multiplier effect in the economy

which means a potentially disastrous day at the office for thousands of other businesses in the building supply chain and the broader economy.”

Mrs Warn said CommunityBuilder would involve the federal

government providing grants to not-profit and local grassroots community organisations to help fund the construction of new facilities or the substantial renovation of existing ones,.

“The government could set the parameters at funding

25% of projects costing up to $5 million and, like HomeBuilder the beneficiary of the grants, would need to put up the rest of the money and also receive additional assistance from state and local government,” Mrs Wawn said.

PASSAGES RL (BOB) NEWMAN 20/7/1929-11/8/2020

Bob scored many tries in the field offorestry … and on the fields of rugbyBOB Newman never changed the goal posts in a life directed at achieving his personal best as an international player in the field of forestry … and on the playing fields of rugby.

Robert Louis Newman, OAM, who turned 91 in July, passed away peacefully in Canberra on August 11.

A respected and devoted forester for almost 70 years, he was regarded as a leader in the development of private forestry in Australia, spanning the years from the 1970s. He gained a B.Sc. (For) from Melbourne University in 1958 and a Diploma from the Australian Forestry School, Canberra, in 1955. In 1964 he was one of the fi rst students to enter the private sector and enjoyed a career in forestry and the forest industries spanning more than 60 years covering forest establishment and management, including eucalypt and pine silviculture and fire and catchment management.

“A lot of late-night slogging,” Bob responded to the writer in July last year after winning his Master of Science by Research degree on the subject of Mechanisms for Investing in Private Forestry Plantations in Australia.

Bob started in forestry as a student in 1951 at the Forests Commission of Victoria. During 1952-53, he worked with the CSIRO Division of Forest Products and then attended the Australian Forestry School. At the end of 1955 he was appointed forester with Australian Newsprint Mills at Maydena

in southern Tasmania responsible for resource assessment and supporting Dr Max Gilbert with his silvicultural research.

In 1964, he accepted the position of development manager for Strahan and Davies with pine sawmills at Myrtleford and a hardwood sawmill in the Otways. During a four-year period he was responsible for the construction of a major timber treatment plant and installation of a veneer peeling plant at Myrtleford and new timber drying facilities at the company’s HQ in Melbourne.

With the sale of the pine mill to Bowater Scott in 1968, Bob took up an offer as general manager ACT and southern NSW for George Hudson. Later, with the support of timber suppliers in Sydney and Melbourne, he commenced trading in Canberra in 1970 until 1976. Bob then commenced full time consulting with his

first job from 1976 to 1980 at Risby Forest Industries in Tasmania, He combined consulting with plantation establishment which included the role of secretary of the Timber Preservers Association of Australia. He spearheaded the organisation of the Bicentenary Forestry Conference before moving to Albury with his staff in 1987.

After the conference in 1988 he established the National Foresters Grove in Albury City, a project closest to his heart, commemorating people who had made significant contributions to build a sustainable and renewable forest industry.

The writer humbly accepted the news from Bob that a tree had been dedicated to him at the grove.

“You’re among some illustrious company now,” Bob said. “Norman Jolly, E.H.F. Swain, Victor Grenning, Alan Trist, Peter South, and timber journalist Con Lembke, just to name a few.”

More than 350 Australian trees of different species have been planted at the 2.5 ha site, a popular family play and picnic park.

During his career, Bob worked in Papua New Guinea, Malaysia the Solomon Islands, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, China and the UK. He was chairman of the Commonwealth Forestry Association during the 1990s and a member of the Institute of Foresters of Australia since 1951. In 2011, he was awarded the institute’s most prestigious honour the N.W. Jolly Medal for outstanding service to the profession of forestry.

Until subsumed by the ANU in 1965, the Australian Forestry School in Canberra had an active rugby club. Bob Newman and other ‘old boys’ of the AFS proactively sought a trophy to recognise the qualities and benefits referees brought to their games, with Bob winning the inaugural trophy.

Bob's family moved to Australia in 1946, taking him away from his much-loved alma mater Epsom College near London, founded in 1855 with royal patronage granted by Queen Victoria.

While at the college, he toured New Zealand with the combined universities team and received a full Blue

FOREST CERTIFICATION

WHAT A WEEK FOR WOOD!

Responsible Wood… supporting communities connected to forest certification.

HY

NE.C

OM

.AUCommunity grants

program launched byResponsible WoodSUSTAINABLE forests champion Responsible Wood has launched a community grants program to support those connected to forests certified by the organisation.

The grants are awarded for collaborative community-based projects, activities or events that connect communities to Responsible Wood certified forests.

Community groups will need to apply before November 15 and if successful must complete their projects by the end of May next year.

Applications will be assessed by an independent panel of judges with an announcement at the end of November. Experienced forester and external relations manager Megan Graham will administer the selection of grant applicants.

“The Responsible Wood Small Grants Program is a good opportunity for community groups to obtain support to undertake small-scale projects,” Megan said.

“We are excited to see what ideas will be proposed, which could, as an example, include an application from a Men’s Shed to build a picnic area or from a bush walking or bike club to build or restore walking or bike tracks,” she said.

“Local Landcare groups could also apply for a grant to improve forest connectivity.”

Applications will only be accepted from local community groups, not-for-profit organisations, registered charities or schools or education institutions.

For two decades, Megan Graham has enjoyed a varied and interesting career in many facets of forestry and natural resource management, specifically focusing on developing and applying strategic approaches to ensure business/policy objectives are achieved through thoughtful and responsible leadership, programs, actions and initiatives.

With a Master’s degree, her experience includes providing services for government, private business and the not-for-profit sector. She has worked and lived within regional and rural Australia, Melbourne and southeast Asia.

Responsible Wood has encouraged HQPlantations staff and contractors to help spread details of the grants program to community groups. More information is available at responsiblewood.org.au or email [email protected]

NOT since the Tasmanian ‘forest wars’ have timber workers and their communities felt more besieged by malicious and carefully coordinated attacks on forestry and their jobs.

Corporate activist organisations have ramped up their efforts to close down the industry in Western Australia, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, which comes on the back of rural communities already hit by drought, bushfires and short-sighted government policy. Piling on are the minnow groups who peddle outrage like hemp shirts at a community market as they fund vexatious litigation against forestry operations:

• In Western Australia, protesters are damaging machinery in Nannup as they falsely claim “old-growth” forest is being harvested.

• The NSW EPA is continually looking over the shoulder of workers as it proactively responds to activists claims in northern and southern NSW amid a ferocious anti-forestry campaign.

• Several professional protest organisations are banding together to attack

forestry operations in the Styx

Valley in Tasmania.

• Ongoing legal battles

in Victoria, as every crowd-

funded, perpetually outraged, not-in-my-backyard group snaps at the heels of forestry.

Stuck in the middle of all this are hardworking men and women, who just want to get on with their jobs and produce the lawfully-sourced timber products that the very people who are demonising them use every day. It is their voice which should be heard alongside the timber industry-funded organisations who are doing a great job arguing the case for forestry publicly and at the

highest levels of government.

to continue to enjoy Australian-sourced native and plantation timber.

FWCA complements the existing representative organisations to create an even stronger representation of those directly affected by anti-forestry politics. Unlike other organisations that largely represent the business or sector interests of the industry, FWCA represents the voice of the workers, their families, lovers of timber, forest users and the communities they live in.

Our mission is to build an association that will:

• Tackle corporate activism head on.

• Stand up against disastrous government policy.

• Provide the tools to join in the fight to save the forest industry.

We have the support of

professional foresters, timber industry organisations and impartial academics who ensure that we have the best current forestry science and expertise on our side.

They are helping us to fight back against the tide of overwhelming anti-forestry bias that has played out in the media, in government, in academia and in the legal system. Our battlefront is in the public arena and we will be a proactive and loud voice in the

media and in parliament. We will use social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to highlight the issues which affect us and inform you of the action we take.

We have already been successful in drawing the attention of the media to issues around some of the science which is used to attack the industry and we will continue to make sure there is at least balance in forestry

issue reporting.

To ensure we are successful, we need to grow our membership and ask all supporters of the Australian plantation and native timber industry to join with us. We have kept our joining fee minimal to make FWCA available to everyone who, for too long, has not had the voice to fight back against the unfair, uninformed and hypocritical attacks on those who provide world-class timber products.

important message.

Participating companies are AKD, Boral Timber, Hyne Timber, OneFortyOne Wood Products, Timberlink, and Wespine, supported by their industry association AFPA. The campaign is gaining momentum and will now focus messaging further down the supply chain to builders and tradies in the coming months. This will include targeted advertising and editorials in builders’ magazines and publications, as well as online advertising to builders and tradies.

Importantly, a new partnership has been formed with trade association Carpentry Australia, building on digital media and giveaways with members invited to join the Buy Aussie Timber First campaign and upload their pictures onto the campaign website.

Supporting the campaign, operations manager James Denton says Carpentry Australia works with carpenters every day.

“They are proud Aussies who love working with

renewable timber,” he said. “We must all support Australian timber to ensure that carpentry can continue to thrive, getting through this crisis together as Australians.”

With more than 140,000 exposures to members each year through its social media pages, Carpentry Australia expects to attract wide interest from members across the nation in the ‘Buy Aussie Timber First' campaign.

The industry campaign will continue to evolve, having commenced with the generic messaging of Timber Framing – The Ultimate Renewable. Its foundational purpose is to educate and promote the benefits of using renewable timber products to builders in Australia, rather than alternative building materials.

Gavin Matthew added: “Today, that renewable pro-timber framing messaging also comes with a ‘buy (more) local’ request, as we all respond to the challenges and uncertainty of Covid-19 in Australia and support our businesses, our local industry, our local

IN the latest edition of Tigercat’s magazine Between the Branches Ontario-based Canadian communications manager Paul Iarocci reflected on the year to date, with particular reference to Australia.

“The year 2020 has gotten off to a tough start. First, it was the devastating Australian wildfires. Lives were lost and homes destroyed. Natural habitats and working forests were decimated and millions of animals were killed. The consequences of the fires are far reaching and difficult to conceptualise.”

He reports that the weight of Covid-19 really began to hit home in North America in the early days of March. Tigercat quickly moved to put in place a coronavirus mitigation plan that involved a plant shutdown of all operations except essential services for six weeks.

“The pause provided the

time required for the newly formed Covid-19 internal task force to revamp policies and operations at Tigercat to reflect new realities and a vastly different world,” Mr Iarocci said.

He commented on the reality of the Covid world. “We have all learned something

about teamwork, whether it is within a household, a social support group, a company, a country, or the entire global community. We have seen examples of selflessness

and heroism, but equally important, we have seen the result of everyone playing their part to solve a problem.”

He added: “Perhaps it can work for other crises that are sure to come. And perhaps this type of big thinking can help us overcome other problems like greenhouse gas emissions, ocean acidification and plastic pollution.

“But first, our deepest condolences to anyone who lost a loved one to Covid-19 or the Australian bushfires. And thanks to everyone, everywhere in the world who have been on the front lines of this crisis – healthcare workers, the trades people that keep critical infrastructure operating, emergency personnel, farmers, the truck drivers that deliver food and critical supplies, and those that keep grocery stores running – just to name a few.”

Mr Iarocci thanked all the people around the world that own and operate Tigercat machines.

“Without all of you, the Tigercat brand wouldn’t exist,” he concluded.

Private sector invited to rebuild WA’s softwood estateTHE Western Australian government, which has invested $23 million in the state’s pine plantations over the past three years, has invited private sector investment to help rebuilt the softwood estate.

The Forest Products Commission currently manages about 78,000 ha of softwood plantations

Forestry Minister Dave Kelly says without significant investment, the estate will

diminish to 40,000 ha within 20 years.

Private sector investment is being sought, through an advertised Problem and Opportunity Statements process, to support a 50,000-ha expansion that would see more than 60 million trees planted over 10 years.

“The expansion will secure the existing 2000 jobs in the softwood sector, create new jobs and secure a valuable resource for our building and

construction sectors,” Mr Kelly said.

“The millions of trees that will be planted will also sequester seven million tonnes of equivalent carbon dioxide and provide valuable habitat for the endangered Carnaby's black Cockatoo.”

The Problem and Opportunity Statements process is a new initiative under the McGowan government's Market-led Proposals policy, harnessing

innovative ideas from the private sector that stimulate the economy and create jobs.

The government’s invitation to the private sector for softwood expansion follows a move by South West Greens MLC Diane Evers to introduce a bill into the Western Australian parliament to ban native logging and wind up the state’s Forest Products Commission. (See Page 3).

THE 2020 New Zealand Institute of Architects eight regional awards took place against the backdrop of a particularly challenging set of circumstances.

Most of the regional judging involved ‘virtual visits’ via online presentations made by the architects of short-listed projects – although some juries were able to conduct site visits before New Zealand’s initial lockdown began in late March.

The annual awards seek to “recognise the achievements of architects and their clients; promote awareness of New Zealand architecture; and acknowledge the difference good design can make in our communities”.

And once again the awards highlighted the versatility of wood across a variety of project categories – from commercial and public architecture to education and multi-unit housing.

Prominent in the last category was The Grounds (designed by Peddle Thorp), a three-storey, four-building apartment complex located in Auckland’s north-west at Hobsonville Point, part of an

ongoing development of ex-defence-force land.

The architects made extensive use of mass-engineered timber construction with CLT panels and timber posts and beams … prefabricated to reduce costs and onsite building time.

Distinctive exterior features include Abodo’s low-maintenance Vulcan screening and sand decking … distinguishing the apartments from the many other intensive-housing projects in this newly-created suburb.

The judging panel praised

FORESTRY Corporation of NSW has announced the winner and finalists in the Sugar Pine Walk commemorative photo competition, with the corporation’s Michael Harris taking top place with his photograph ‘Winterlong’ (pictured).

The site in the Bago forest was planted in 1928 as part of a trial of different exotic species by the forestry industry

Snowy regional manager

Dean Anderson congratulated Michael and other finalists for sharing their memories of the Sugar Pine Walk.

“Sadly this iconic location was burnt in the 2019-20 bushfires and has been

removed, but the photo competition has captured the beauty of the site and marks its passing,” Mr Anderson said.

“The stories that came with the photos were touching and

it is apparent that the Sugar Pine Walk was a special place for many people.”

Each photographer captured a different aspect to the forest, and the 380 entries demonstrate the beauty

of the former site.

Michael wins a $500 cash prize.

the build for its “clarity of form, expert articulation of materials, and elegantly realised interior and exterior spaces”.

A standout in the Auckland region’s housing category was Bowden House, by Belinda George Architects in association with Mandeno Design Ltd – a semicircular structure that nestles into a hillside on Northland’s Tutukaka coast.

Interestingly, the house is oriented towards a nearby stand of native bush to the north (as a nod to the client’s childhood memories) rather than the more obvious ocean views to the east of the site.

The external palette comprises extensive wooden decking that connects the living and sleeping areas; a shingle roof (Alaskan yellow cedar) to expedite the collection of rainwater; and stained western red cedar weatherboards.

Timber elements dominate the interior construction/décor in the form of tongue and groove cedar planking, and meranti plywood ceilings with cedar battens. And there’s even a dining table made from totara – a native

wood on the cusp of a renaissance as a recently completed pilot project confirmed its viability as a sustainably managed resource.

Meantime, the Waikato & Bay of Plenty awards included the superbly realised Lakes Early Childhood Education Centre in Tauranga, by Copeland Associates.

The jury described the education category winner

as a “progressive and human solution to an institutional brief”.

The centre’s simple rectangular design is enhanced by the strong lines of the sheltering roof and cedar cladding, and dynamic V-pilasters (which feature ‘playful’ timber seating). Exposed laminated timber trusses, translucent roofing and a raked acoustic ceiling

help to complete the picture of a light-filled, child-friendly learning space.

All regional winners are eligible for the national awards – tentatively scheduled for early November via a format yet to be announced.

Inaugural CEO of Tasmanian Forest Products Association appointedTHE newly-formed Tasmanian Forest Products Association has appointed its first CEO.

Nick Steel, who has worked for the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association at senior levels for 10 years, including as deputy CEO, takes up his new position on Monday.

AFPA CEO Ross Hampton said the TFPA’s membership included all the major growers

and processors who were part of Tasmania’s sustainable forest products industry, in native forestry and plantation, softwood and hardwood, heralding a new era of cooperation between all parts of the industry to represent Tasmania’s forest industries to governments, media and the community.

Mr Hampton said TFPA would work closely with AFPA on growing the industry

in Tasmania.

Ross Hampton paid tribute to Terry Edwards, the outgoing chief executive of the Forest Industries Association of Tasmania, which is being replaced by the TFPA.

“Terry and FIAT championed forestry in Tasmania for many years and I want to thank him for his work,” Mr Hampton said.

PUBLIC comment is now being sought on a revised draft for the Australia-New Zealand standard for Sustainable Forest Management – AS / NZS 4708.

The joint trans-Tasman standard, along with the Australian standard for Chain of Custody for Forest Products (AS 4707), was developed by Responsible Wood. They are key components of the organisation’s certification scheme.

AS/NZS 4708 underpins the endorsement of the PEFC sustainable forest management certification scheme operating in New Zealand.

“The Responsible Wood scheme is recognised as a world leading certification scheme for natural and plantation forests,” the chair of the standard reference committee Dr Gordon Duff said.

“The committee includes a broad range of organisations in Australia and New Zealand involved in forest management, forest research, auditing, the

government, community, environmental and indigenous sectors and labour unions,” he said.

“These organisations are keen to get public feedback on how the revised standard can be further improved.”

Dr Duff, who edits the Australian Forestry Journal, is well versed in corporate governance and has chaired the Tasmanian Forest Practices Authority, the Forest Education Foundation and the Northern Territory Environmental Protection Authority.

The committee invites public comment on the draft standard. Comments should be submitted by October 23, preferably using the submission form available from Responsible Wood.

The review process is being undertaken in accordance with Standards Australia procedures, Responsible Wood is accredited as a standards development

organisation and is also accredited to develop Australian and New Zealand standards in accordance with the standards development procedures.

The Responsible Wood certification scheme, of which AS 4708 is a key component, is accredited by the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the world’s largest certification system for sustainable forest management.

The standard reference committee has sought to ensure that the revised standard (AS/NZS 4708) continues to be consistent with PEFC endorsement

requirements.

Previously known as Australian Forestry Standard Ltd, Responsible Wood is one of five SDOs accredited through the standards development and accreditation committee of Standards Australia.

Responsible Wood promotes a culture of ‘continuous improvement’ of sustainable forest management practices in Australia

The draft standard and submission form can be downloaded from the Responsible Wood website responsiblewood.org.au
