Child and Youth
Homework Haven/Kids Eat Smart
The Homework Haven/Kids Eat Smart Programs are FREE afterschool programs for children in grades K-6. This will take place Monday-Thursday from 2:30PM-4:00PM with
Guided Reading every Wednesday; every day from 3:30PM- 4:00PM Children will get to participate in a
variety of fun activities. For those who attend regularly, there will be a monthly special event planned!
Homework Haven will break for the summer on June 21
Youth nights
Youth nights take place Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
We have some exciting activities planned for the spring. Come out and see what we have to offer!
This is a FREE program for youth Grades 7-12

Smoking Cessation Do you want to quit smoking? We can help.
The Exploits Community Centre in partnership with Public Health is offering a FREE 4 week smoking cessation program.
This will take place every Wednesday starting on April 11 at 1:30 to 3:00.

Volunteer Appreciation Week Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 15-21, 2018,
This year’s theme is: “Celebrate the Value of Volunteering-building confidence,
competency, connections and community” The Exploits Community Centre is hosting a coffee morning
on Friday April 20th 9:30am to 11:30am Please join as we celebrate our volunteers
Peace of Mind (Ages 18+) Peace of Mind is a mental health support group for
individuals ages 18 and over. If you are interested in joining the group you must call the centre to book a meeting to
complete the registration process.
This is a closed group and is limited to 15 participants. Peace of Mind takes place every Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm

Registration for summer camp will take place during the Block Party and also June 18-20 from 830-1130 and
again 130-330 each day.
Stress Management for Parents
As parents, we all know that the struggle is real! It’s hard to manage everyday life when you feel stressed all or most of the time. Whether it’s financial stress, relationship stress, Child or health related stress, whatever it is that has got worried or frustrated, there are healthy ways to deal with it. On Monday May 7th from 1-2 pm we invite you to come join us, relax and enjoy a nice hot cup of tea while you learn some very
useful ways to cope with everyday stress.

Clutter-Be-Gone Clutter got you stressed? Don’t know what to do!
We can help! Come join us for a three session workshop on how to declutter your house and organize your life! We have many tips, tricks and solutions for all your chaos needs.
Sessions will take place Wednesdays on April, 11, 18, and 25 @ 1:30-2:30 pm. Please register as space is limited
Dinner on a Dime We all know that trying to feed a family on a tight budget is stressful, and being creative is a skill, especially with picky
eaters. But we can help! We would like to invite you to join us to learn how to S-t-r-e-t-c-h your dime and your dinner!
Sessions will take place on Wednesdays May 2, 9, and 16, from 1:30-3:00 pm

Family
Managing Difficult Behaviours One of the biggest challenges parents face is managing difficult or defiant behaviors of their children. Whether they’re refusing to put on their shoes, or throwing full-blown tantrums, you can find yourself at a loss for an effective way to deal with these behaviours. On Monday May 14 from 1-2 pm, we will be holding a session to help teach parent’s effective ways to deal with these types of behaviours so that everyday tasks are less stressful for both you and your child. For parents at their wits end, behavioral therapy
techniques can provide a roadmap to calmer, more
consistent ways to manage problem behaviors problems
and offers a chance to help children develop gain the
developmental skills they need to regulate their own
behaviors.
ICE: In Case of Emergency We are never too young or too old to be prepared if something
should happen. Plan ahead for your family and prepare the information they'd need in case something happened to you or
your spouse. Please join us on April 10th from 1:30-2:30 pm

Do-It-Yourself bath and beauty products can be inexpensive and
luxurious as well as great for your body and the environment.

As we teach you how to make your very own bath bombs that you get to take home and enjoy!

Monthly Tenant Supper Once a month we will be hosting a FREE Tenant Supper and we would like to invite Families and individuals up to the age of 54 To join us for a hot home cooked meal. During this time we will also be promoting programs and services that are available to you. These suppers are from 4:30-6:00 pm and will be held on the following dates: Tuesday April 10 and Tuesday May 15 You MUST call and register to attend and we ask that all children
be accompanied by an adult family member.
Build your own Porch Planter
Spring is in the air which means summer is just around the corner! We want to help you make your front porch beautiful and summer ready! If you are interested in building your own
front porch planter come join us on June 12 & 19 at 1:30-3:00pm. Please call to register no later than Friday May 25, as
space is limited
Summer Camp
The Exploits Community centre will be holding a FREE 6 week full day summer camp for children ages 6-11 (or will be attending between grades 1-6 in the fall) that live in Newfoundland and Labrador Housing. This is a fun packed camp with lots of activities and outings for the children to enjoy. All meals and snacks are provided as well as transportation to those who qualify. Registration will take place during our annual Block Party on June 16 from 11-2 and also on June 18-20 between 930-11 & 130-330 each day. Space is limited so please apply early. Healing Herb Garden Growing your own medicinal herbs is a great way to incorporate good health into your life. These herbs are recommended for their wide range of health benefits and basic healing properties. What's especially nice is that you don't have to be an experienced gardener to do it! Come join us for a two part session to learn about medicinal herbs and to plant your own medicinal herb garden. These sessions will take place from 1-230 on May 29 and June 5. Please call the centre to register as space is limited
Mother’s Day Tea
In honor of Mothers’ Day we would like to invite all moms out to an afternoon tea on Friday May 11
th from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.
Come out and enjoy some refreshments and entertainment from the children in our Homework Haven Program. For those who RSVP by Wednesday May 9
th your name will be entered
for a beautiful Mother’s Day gift basket.

Anxiety Disorders and Strategies to Help you Cope! According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada, 1 in 4
Canadians will have at least one anxiety disorder in their lifetime. Anxiety can present itself in many forms that may be very alarming
to most people, and can become debilitating without proper strategies or treatment to help.
If you would like to learn more we will be offering an informative session on Friday June 8 at 1:30pm

Education Incentive
Tenants living in NL Housing with a child or children attending school in grades 7 to 12 or post-secondary may be eligible to
receive a monthly payment for each student.

Linkages Linkage’s is an employment program that provides career planning workshops along with 26 weeks of full-time employment to unemployed youth ages 18-30. There are two types of programs under linkages; one you have to never have been in receipt of EI and the other you must be EI attached. As well, you must not have graduated from a post-secondary institution, and you must have a minimum of Grade 11 in order to qualify. Adult Scholarships valued at $1000.00.

Disability Tax Credit Disability Tax Credit is available to people with prolonged physical or mental disabilities approved by the Canadian
Revenue Agency. The Exploits Community Centre is hosting an information session on the Disability Tax Credit.

Seniors Lunch and a Movie! We would like to invite our seniors to a FREE Lunch and a
Movie that will take place once a month on Tuesdays, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. We ask that everyone call to register no later than two days before each session begins, space is limited so please register early. These meals will take place
on the following dates: April 10th May 15th
Seniors Lunch and Learn We will be hosting a series of presentations for our seniors on topics from A to Z that are very informative and useful to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. These sessions will take place on Thursday once a month from 11:30am to 1pm on the following dates and topics:

Elder Abuse Awareness Day Elder Abuse Awareness Day is recognized every year on June 15 Elder abuse has become a growing concern in our society. In recognition of this day we are hosting a Seniors Lunch and Learn on
June 15 at 11:30am to 1:00pm. Please call to register!
E&H Tenant Association E&H is a Tenant Association for seniors aged 55+ who live in
Newfoundland and Labrador Housing. Once a month they meet for a variety of activities such as bingo, potluck, holiday celebrations, and
an annual day trip. There is no cost to join the group or to participate in any activities. If you would like more information or if you are
interested in joining the association, you may contact Judy Gardner at 293-9469, or Rose Bergeron at 489 9830.
The association will meet at the Exploits Community Centre at 1:30 pm on following dates:

The Jumpstart program helps financially disadvantaged children ages (4-18) to participate in organized sports and recreation by covering registration, equipment and or transportation cost. Applications must be completed online and we do have computers available that you can use to complete the online application. For further information or if you require assistance please call 489-2141
Seniors Gift Bingo Seniors bingo will take place at 1:30 pm on the following dates:

Budgeting with the seniors Would you like to get your finances under control and earn money while you’re doing it? Come join us for a 4 week hands on session and learn how to manage your money and be able to maximize what you get! As an added bonus those who complete the 4 weekly - 2 hour sessions will receive a $50.00 Walmart Gift card as our gift to you! In these sessions you will: • Receive & complete a budget/spending journal. •Gain understanding of net income and annual income •Learn how to track spending and balance your budget •Learn what mindless spending is and how to avoid it •Learn how to save on free products, services, programs. • Become aware of what is available in our community?
