A cultural group… A set of beliefs… Any group of people living in a
particular local area who are affected by your event. May not be your target audience/market There could be a community within a
community
How do you find out WHO is your community? Talk to people – Do some research
Local government Local NPO Chambers of Commerce Churches Visitors Bureau Community Leaders
City Council Representatives Church Leaders
So what? How does a Community Benefit?
Events reflect “values, interests, aspirations, culture, etc.” of a Community
Economic Impacts Local Enterprise/Business Revenue Generation Job Creation Increased visibility Enhance image

Vision… The vision statement, by contrast, is not
about what the company currently is, but what the company hopes to become.

A goal is a broad statement of what the program hopes to accomplish.
Objectives… An objective is a specific, measurable
condition that must be attained in order to accomplish a particular program goal.

Policies and Procedures
Policies: Regulations and/or Guidelines based on Mission, Vision, Goals, & Objectives E.G. One security Guard per 250 people E.G. Only bonded employees can handle
money Procedures: Provide an Action-
Orientation to the policies of an organization – the How-To. E.G. All moneys received, must be receipted
So what’s the big deal??? You must tailor your event to benefit
the community. Event Projects must have a Mission,
Vision, Goals and Objectives that “FIT” the community. Good or Bad E.G. – Have a Rock Concert

Brainstorm an Organization: E.G. Fair Association, Girl Scouts, Heritage/Cultural NPO, etc.
Record: Name and Type of Organization (1-2
sentences) Mission (1-2 sentences) Vision (1-2 sentences) Goals (1 stated goal) Objectives (2 stated objectives)
Example Organization: Wendish Texas Society
(WTS): The WTS is a heritage and cultural NPO in Texas.
Mission: To Preserve Wendish Culture for future generations
Vision: To establish a Wendish Cultural Museum in Serbin, TX in the next 20 years
Goal: To hold a Cultural Picnic in September highlighting Wendish Culture
Objectives: 1.) To have at least 5000 people attend the picnic. 2.) To have at least 75% of visitors to learn something about Wendish Culture.
